Angle Park Preview

02/10/2014
Racing News

Well it doesn’t get any better than tonight’s racing for the greyhound enthusiast.  We have7 fantastic heats for the Adelaide Cup.  There are a lot of interstaters crossing the border to try and claim the Macro Meats Adelaide Cup and with a very handy $75,000 to the winner on offer, who can blame them.  The locals have the home track advantage and we see the return of the local hero in Ernie Bung Arrow who was last year’s Cup winner.   He has drawn his box in race 8.  Good luck and watch in awe at the caliber of smart performers that are gracing the Angle Park loam tonight.

Race 1 and we will kick off with the Troy Murray trained Van Carrho Flash.  He is an ex NSW performer with 10 wins and 21 placing’s from his 47 starts.  He is sure to be well tried and is well drawn.  Add in Allen Illem and Velocity Daff.  Box Up 1.2.3.6

The 2nd and I am going with an early leader and that is Caramel Flirt.  She had a smart win two runs back at Gawler from box 8 and is a chance of carving across here to lead and win.  Premier Event continues to improve along with Absolute Boss.  Box Up 1.4.6.7.

The 3rd event which is the first of the Adelaide Cup heats and I am going with Iva Vision.  He loves this track and won the Derby final here last month from this draw in a slick 29.57.  Mepunga Hayley is another who is a top chance and the kennel is firing at the moment.  Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 4 and the inside two look the main chances.  Allen Deed from the Dailly kennel is drawn for a big run.  He is very smart when on the bunny but can be hit and miss on box rise.  Wind Whistler is no stranger to the track and is yet to miss the money here in 3 outings.  He will take a power of beating.  Box Up 1.2.7.8 in a terrific event

Race 5 and we continue with another fantastic heat and the class runner is the well drawn Campaspe Will.  He is knocking on the door and is drawn to win for mine.  National Time has good form along with a couple of locals in Kalden Gambino and Nebula.  We can’t forget  Texas Titan, another from Victoria who has a keen liking to the venue.  Box Up 1.2.3.5

The 6th and a very open affair with a lot of class runners in this event.  The top 3 are the 4 , 5 and the 6.  Clash Of Kings gets the nod for mine on his trial here in 29.77 last week and the youngster has won 8 from 13 and has a very big future ahead of him.  Box Up 4.5.6.7

Race 7 and we see a heap of pace in this event.  They are both on the rails coming from Aston Kane and Ollie Bale.  Both are very quick when on the bunny and have outstanding form.  Gimme Fuel has a big motor when on song and has a BON 29.44 next to his name two runs back at Sandown.  Box Up 1.2.4.7 in another quality event.

Race 8 and we see the return of the local champ in Ernie Bung Arrow, who will be trying to go back to back like Hawthorn.  He hasn’t had the best lead up to the race with several setbacks with niggling injuries.  Sidney’s Shadow can bounce back from a fall here last start (not a pun) from box 3 and Mepunga Armagh can pinch this.  Box up 3.4.7.8

Race 9 the last of the 7 heats of the Cup and we see the outstanding Crackerjack Dak a winner of over $60,000 in prize money.  He has 18 wins and 14 placing’s from his 44 starts.  Local hope Footluce Diva is well drawn down in box 1 and is in terrific form.  Box Up 1.3.7.8

The 10th and this is the 600m event of the night.  There is a heap of pace down on the fence so I will go with a stalker out in box 7, the smart Token MClaren who will camp on them early and storm home over the top.  As It Goes will set the pace along with Big Zap.  Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 11 and Manic is more than capable of winning this.  He has a good turn of early burn and is strong at both ends.  Funky Chicken led throughout here last start and went on to win in 30.06 from box 2.  Add the inform Young Gun McBain and that is the trifecta.  Box Up 1.3.4.5

The final event on a great night of racing and don’t forget the final of the CUP is next Friday the 10th of October and we will go home on a winner in He’s a Villian.  Everyone will be jumping on the 1 dog and let’s hope at each way odds we will be running on to score.  Box Up 1.3.4.6

The Top Gun is by invitation only and is worth $150,000 to the winner and will be run on Saturday 25th October at the Meadows. KAY MCPHEE RETIRING FROM GRSA
After nearly 27 years with Greyhound Racing SA Kay McPhee has decided to retire. For the last 11 years of that time Kay has worked fulltime in the Racing Administration section and has been a valuable member of the GRSA team. She has successfully dealt with many parts of the business including processing of all prizemoney, greyhound namings and industry account details just to name a few. Her attention to detail and experience will be missed by our department and the company. Kay has been kind enough to stay on until after the Adelaide Cup and Greyhound Auction with her final day being Friday 17th October.  We wish Kay all the best in her retirement.

Kerry Algate from Entrée Recruitment has been employed to fill the role vacated by Kay in the short term.

TOKEN MCLAREN SCRATCHED FROM TONIGHT
Don Fosters star chaser was scratched from tonight’s Angle Park meeting due to him being graded into an incorrect race. With this being the case he has been scratched free of penalty leaving him free to compete in next week’s Premiers Cup.

CHASING THE GOLDEN BONE SYNDICATE DOG IN ON MONDAY
Newly named Pawesome Gold will start her racing career for the winners of the Golden Bone competition (the Bone Collectors Syndicate) on Monday night at Angle Park. She will race for the syndicate for 12 months before reverting back to her original owners. She has been trialling quite well for trainer Paul Fagan and will hopefully perform well.  She is in Race 2 on Monday night due to jump at 6.26pm.

GAWLER TRACK UPGRADED TODAY
Over recent weeks we have experienced some issues with the surface at Gawler. This appeared to be as a result of the new sand added, therefore testing of the product was undertaken by the supplier. It was established that the sand was now being mined further in the quarries and as a result was producing slightly different textures.

GRSA have now sourced a new product which will be placed on the track today and tomorrow.

CATCHING PEN TO START RACING ON MONDAY 13TH OCTOBER
With the trialling progressing well at Angle Park the implementation date for the Catching Pen will be on Monday 13th October.
Nominations for this meeting close at 9.00am on Wednesday 8th October with GRSA.

The catalogue has been released for our greyhound Auction on Sunday 12th October. One of these greyhounds (Nitro Burst x Hope’s Up) will be auctioned on Adelaide Cup night (Friday 10th October) to assist in the promotion of the event.

There is a requirement for anyone wishing to bid on a greyhound including buybacks that they are registered before the Auction on the Friday night and also on Sunday.

In an added bonus Ray Borda from Macro Meats has graciously decided to sponsor the auction and has provided 19 x $250 vouchers to be drawn prior to Sunday to entice bidders to the auction and to be used on the purchase price (buy backs are excluded from this promotion). By registering for the Auction to Bid also will put you in the draw for the vouchers.
