Angle Park Preview - 4th November 2021
By The Shadow
We have another strong 12 event programme here at headquarters and all eyes will be on race 5 the Leigh Rogers $10,000 Feature final over the 530m which has certainly turned into a wide-open affair with the box draw. We kick start the night with a 595m event and it sets us up for a great night on the punt, as always, all races are Trifecta and First Four.
Race 1 - The Rasmussen team can have another big night here and they will win the opening event with Victa Haydn, he has been in terrific form winning four of his last five here and Gawler and looks very hard to beat again. Barbados Express is the danger, she was a nice winner at Gawler last run over the 643m and is a chance of leading here. Box up 1.4.7.8
Race 2 - This is the 1st of two Maidens and we will stick with Express Speed who couldn’t cross from a wide draw last week, he is well boxed tonight and looks the leader. Razzle Darryl is making his debut and must be kept safe. Add Clear View who has had 12 starts for 4 placings and was placed at Richmond over the 400m early last month. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 3 - This is the 2nd of the Maidens and It’s Your Shout has shown pace to lead at his past two here only to be run down let’s hope he can hold on here. Spring Hamer is a run on type who get’s back early, he looks a First Four chance. Wishing You is one to keep an eye on and we must watch the betting. Add Ritza Apache who has the perfect draw. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 4 - Springvale Maddi has been in fine form winning her past two here from wide draws, she has the rails tonight and will be very hard to beat again. Spring Crossing continues to mix his form, he has been placed in 4 of 8 this venue and is drawn to run a bold race. Psychotic Babe can add some value for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.5.8
Race 5 - This is the Final of the 2021 Leigh Rogers over the sprint and with $10.000 to the winner on offer it makes for a great First Four event, we will stick with Mallee Magic who led them a merry dance here last week winning in a BON 30.51, he will be hard to beat if able to lead. Frankie Boy is another who has been in terrific form winning two of his last three and has been running handy times. Add Rogue Player for value as he will be running on late. Box Up 3.5.6.7
Race 6 - I like one in this at each way value Ned’s Chance, he is very smart with a clear run, he can be awkward early but the draw will help big time. Sudden Force has early pace, he has been racing well without winning and is knocking on the door. See You Smile will be working home as will Hot Spartan. Box Up 1.2.5.6
Race 7 - Boombox Hammer was a handy 2nd here when resuming here last week, he should only be improved by the run and is amongst the better chances. Abernathy used box 1 to perfection when winning here in 30.72, he has good box manners and is more than capable of leading again. Tangelo Fire showed pace from this draw last week but went very wide, she can run into the money and is one for the trifecta. Box Up 2.3.4.5
Race 8 - Jack’s Well can bounce back tonight, he is a class act and finished 3rd here in the Adelaide Cup Final, he looks the one to beat. Victa Reid is well drawn and was a last start winner here when well supported, he is the danger. Foresaken has been in the money here in 5 of his 8 runs. Box Up 1.3.5.6
Race 9 - The Ossie Chegia kennel has had a huge amount of success with the Fantastic breed in recent years and they have a new one here tonight in Fantastic Keary, he has only had the 7 runs for a win and 3 placings and is one to keep safe on debut. Barely’s Gem has been racing well of late, her box manners can be hit and miss but she is more than capable if steps. Benitoite looks another place hope. Box Up 2.4.5.7
Race 10 - Dashing Wilma was a last start winner here in 30.55 from box 8, she is well drawn here tonight and will be hard to beat from the rails draw. Aston Wines is another who has the form on the board and with his early pace can figure. Spring Drama and Victa Maggie for the minors. Box Up 1.2.5.8
Race 11 - Midnight Blast is the improver here he found a heap of trouble here at his 1st look when unplaced and from box 1 should take a power of beating Cosmic Kid has been around the mark and looks a place prospect. Deadly Mamba and Chase The Magic for the first four. Box Up 1.4.5.7
Race 12 - The Troy Murray kennel has been in fine form of late and they can send us home with a winner with the pacey She’s A Hotshot, she has won four of her past five and can hopefully skip to the front and hold on. Jamie Lannister will be the one running on late and is very strong. Bangor Lizzy and Victa Saige are also chances. Box Up 1.4.5.8

GRSA SKY WEEKLY SCHEDULE TO CHANGE FROM 1st DECEMBER 2021
From the start of December, the Sky weekly schedule of greyhound racing in South Australia will change.
The first two Sundays of any month will routinely be scheduled at Murray Bridge with the remaining Sundays being allocated to Gawler. The primary reason for the change is about providing both of those Clubs with an accessible weekly timeslot which helps them to cultivate a strong base of local patronage.
GRSA explored the opportunity that exists to secure a permanent Friday night timeslot on Sky but those plans were curtailed by the existing congestion of meetings in that spot. The model of ‘shared Sundays’ represented the next best solution for a strategy based on community engagement.
The Murray Bridge region is synonymous with racing, and has been the site of the two most significant infrastructure projects undertaken by SA’s thoroughbred and greyhound codes in the past two decades. GRSA expects trainer numbers to continue to grow in the region well into the future, and increasingly so as the traditional (greyhound) training regions to the north of Adelaide experience heightened levels of development. The strategy, as it relates to Murray Bridge, is also partly founded on the fact that the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council is such a proud supporter of local racing opportunities.
The schedule will transition from 1st December 2021, which will allow crowds over the December and Christmas period to enjoy prime-time racing opportunities at each of Gawler, Murray Bridge and Angle Park.
CHANGES TO FEATURE RACE CALENDAR
With the changes to the scheduling this has presented some programming issues for some of our feature races. GRSA has had to make some changes and alterations to accommodate the program. Below are some highlighted changes –
- The Murray Bridge Oaks and Derby series will move forward 1 week and will be conducted on Sunday 5th and 12th December. (Maidens are eligible so long as they have raced or qualy trialled)
- The Gawler Golden Maiden will move from late November and early December to Sunday 16th and 23rd January. It has moved due to Gawler Show the week before, a 5 day break with the final proposed on a Friday and the Murray Bridge Oaks and Derby taking this space.
- Murray Bridge Cup heats in March will move from Friday 11th to Monday 14th with the final still on Sunday 20th March.
- Gawler Produce series in June will race on Friday 10th and then Sunday 19th and 26th
All updated calendars for feature races for Angle Park, Gawler and Murray Bridge (Mt Gambier are not affected by the schedule) are available on the GRSA website
CHANGE TO ANGLE PARK SATURDAY IN DECEMBER
Greyhound Racing SA only has one Fortnightly Saturday Morning in December which was programmed on Saturday 11th December with no racing on Saturday 25th December due to Christmas Day.
This would give us a 4 week gap until our next Saturday meeting in January. GRSA has liaised with Racing Queensland who advised that they are prepared to swap their Fortnightly Townsville meeting with ours for Saturday 18th December which will give SA a 3 week gap before and after our Saturday meetings.
Trials will remain on Sunday 12th December due to staffing at Angle Park and trials will now be on Sunday 19th December due to the race meeting. GRSA will update this to industry closer to the dates.
GRSA appreciates the support in regard to this change from Racing Queensland, the Townsville GRC and Sky Racing.
The date changes are listed below -

NATIONAL STRAIGHT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPIN RESCHEDULED 19TH DECEMBER
Racing Queensland advises that The National Straight Track Championship (NSTC) Final has been rescheduled to 19 December 2021 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club. All participating states (GRV, GRNSW, GRSA, and RQ) remain committed to the series.
Interstate qualification will take place at Healesville (GRV), Richmond (GRNSW), and Murray Bridge (GRSA). All state finals will carry prizemoney of $5,000 to the winner.
To coincide with these dates GRSA has reprogrammed the heats to Tuesday 30th November with the state final on Tuesday 7th December
Queensland state qualifying heats will commence on 5 December with the state qualifying final on 12 December.
Two greyhounds from each state will qualify for the NSTC Final at Capalaba worth total prizemoney of $37,500 ($25,000 to the winner).
Whilst there is currently restricted access to Queensland for some parts of Australia, last Monday the Queensland Government announced that it is aiming to allow fully vaccinated interstate travellers to enter Queensland without the need to quarantine from 17 December 2021.
However, if an interstate trainer is unable to travel to Queensland, the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club have advised that interstate-based greyhounds are able to be hosted by Club for the purpose of racing in Final. These arrangements can be made by contacting the Capalaba Club on 07 3390 2772.
Full NSTC series conditions, including eligibility to nominate, are available on the GRSA website.
