TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have another quality final tonight with the running of the 2020 Shane McQueen over the 600m, race 8 on the programme, it looks a terrific betting affair so make sure you have  a crack at the First Four. We have been finishing on the right side of the ledger in recent weeks and we should be able to do the same again tonight. The Ben Rawlings kennel is a chance of having another huge night with their charges.

Race 1 - Shamrock Lava gets his chance tonight, he led here last start and was run down in heavy conditions, and he should lead and win. Christopher Rose is a strong type, he gets back in his races early and will be doing his best work late. Add Burning Nitro who is in good form. Box Up 1.2.6.7

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and with several newcomers it is wide open, Springvale Cher has had a couple of starts and has been runner up here in 2 of them, she can only improve and is my top pick. Coorong Cash is from a smart kennel and must be included along with kennel mate Coorong Nugget. Box Up 1.5.6.7

Race 3 - Sweet On Me is drawn to win here, she has been racing well over the short at Murray Bridge and won here 3 starts back in 30.05, we will put her on top. Fly For Fun is a very capable sprinter, he is the big danger. Sky Wesley is our value runner for the First Four. Box Up 1.3.4.8

Race 4 - This is a Distance affair and Zipping Galon should appreciate the small field, he is a class act when on song and will be charging home over the top of them. Miss Bellawood is the likely leader, she is in terrific form with 2 strong wins in quick times including a smart 600m win here last start, she is more than capable of pinching this on recent form. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 5 - We will go with the ex-NSW chaser From The Gallery in this, she has won 3 of 15 with placings over the 600m and 700m. Corryong McLaren is a strong type, his last 2 wins have been when he has charged home late, he looks a handy type and is a big chance  in this again. Super Blu is drawn for a forward showing and is one for the trifecta. Box Up 1.3.7.8

Race 6 - Cairnlea Pebbles has been showing a lot of early pace in recent times only to be run down, she is a chance of pinching this on recent efforts and is our top pick. American Man will be running on again, he has been missing the kick of late but is always a chance in his races. Patrick Francis is another who does his best work late. Box Up 1.3.4.8

Race 7 - Coorong Lucy continued her terrific form with a strong win here last week, she is by far the best sprinter going around here in SA at the moment and should win again. Alfieri found a heap of trouble here last start, he will need early luck to be in the mix but oozes class when on song. Box Up 3.4.6.8

Race 8 - This is the 2020 Shane McQueen final with nearly $8,000 to the winner, it is certainly a very interesting event. Sir Truculent continues to improve, the powerful stayer handled the drop back in distance her last week and carved out a B.O.N 34.91 from box 7, he is drawn again for another bold showing. Two Times Twice loves this trip, he is yet to miss a cheque in 9 starts and is one of the main chances again. Holy Reign is drawn to perfection and is a must for Trifecta punters. Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 9 - Little Earner finally returned to the winners circle, she held on to score in 29.92 here last week and can do the same again tonight. Untold and Hot Sophie are drawn to run cheeky races and should figure late, add Gemtree Dynamo for value. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 10 - The 2 main chances here in a small field are Boom Down and No Surrender, they have current form over this trip with the latter being a wide runner who is well drawn. Miss Breakout appears a place chance as the field of 4 is a bonus. Box Up 1.3.5.7

Race 11 - Oakvale Style was a massive run here last start when she missed the kick only to sprout wings and get beaten by a nose in handy time, she looks to have a handy future and can send us home on a winning note. Vossy is the improver and is worth putting in our First Four along with Ainsley Flash. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Shane worked with the Office of Gaming in Western Australia and then as the Operations Manager with Greyhounds WA before moving his family across the border and joining Greyhound Racing SA as the CEO back in 1998.

Shane was an outstanding administrator with a real passion for our sport in South Australia. Many of his initiatives can still be seen today, most notably the Greyhound Park tavern, named “McQueens” after his passing.

CLASSIC AND BREEDERS FUTURITY PAYMENTS

Owners of SA Bred greyhounds are reminded that the next batch of Futurity payments are due on Friday, 19th June 2020.

The payments due are:

Classic 2020 – Final Payment (Pups born July 18 to December 18)
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first two Sustaining Payments have been made. The Final Payment is $121 per greyhound.

Breeders 2021 – Second Payment (Pups born January 19 to June 19)
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first Sustaining Payment was made last December. The Second Sustaining Payment is $55 per pup or a Final Payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

With regard to the First Payment for Classic 2021 (Pups born July 19 to December 19) GRSA has decided to delay these payments due to the current environment affected by COVID-19.  This series will now only consist of two sustaining payments, First payment of $82.50 ($27.50 + $55) or Final Payment of $121 due Friday, 19th December with the Final Payment due in June 2021 for owners who paid the First Payment in December.

The payments for Classic 2020 and Breeders 2021 are unable to be delayed due to races programmed in August for Classic 2020 and having the First Payments already made for Breeders 2021.

To assist all owners of Futurity eligible pups, reminders will be sent out over the coming days. It is perhaps a good idea to make the payment as soon as you can, so it doesn’t slip your mind and the closing date passes. If you have sold a pup/s we would ask if you can either forward on the information or let Caralyn Fielden know at GRSA and she can follow it up. If you haven’t received a reminder by the end of this month and you think you should have, contact us as soon as possible.

MURRAY BRIDGE SUNDAYS TO FINISH AROUND 8PM GOING FORWARD

GRSA advise that we have liaised with Sky Racing regarding the finishing times of Murray Bridge on Sundays recently.

With COVID-19 restrictions in place Sky advised that where possible the meeting will finish around 8pm. This will aid participants returning home locally or travelling.

SCRATCHING DEADLINES AND TRIALS BOOKING CLOSING TO REMAIN AT 3PM

Whilst the Greyhound Racing SA Offices have gone back to closing at 4.30pm the scratching deadlines and trails bookings closing will remain at 3pm to assist the management of these processes.

MURRAY BRIDGE TRIALS

GRSA advise that from March there will no longer be an officiating staff available to clear greyhounds for Satisfactory trials and Qualifying Qualy trials on the fortnightly Tuesday nights at Murray Bridge.

GRSA will send an official to Murray Bridge on a monthly basis on a Friday morning trial session, which has both tracks trialling. This presents an opportunity to also include the Straight Track for Qualifying and Satisfactory Trials. The next trial session will be Friday, 19th June.

NON ESSENTIAL PERSONS ONCOURSE AT RACE MEETINGS

GRSA reminds participants with children that due to the COVID-19 restrictions non essential persons and the public are not allowed oncourse which includes children.

Unfortunately during school holidays this can be difficult for some of our participants to manage however they need to make other arrangements for them.

GRSA appreciates the significant changes in place for the industry during this time and appreciates the efforts that are being made and continue to be made to abide due social distancing and restrictions.
