Angle Park Preview - 3rd September 2020
by The Shadow
Its Thursday night again and we kick start another month of quality racing here at headquarters, in recent weeks we have seen Sir Truculent carve out quick times over the 731m, tonight he is back over the sprint and he looks very hard to beat again in the opening event. We have the FINAL of the Kings And Queens (race 8 ) and that has several chances which makes for a perfect First Four, so we will have a lash at that later in the evening. We see the return of Tauwitchere from a stint in Victoria and to top it off, Mount Gambier Cup winner Sunset Milo makes his city debut. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.
Race 1 - We can kick start the night with Sir Truculent, he has been in outstanding from over the 731m and prior to that was winning over the 600m, he is back to the sprint tonight and he appears very hard to beat again. Up Time Girl has early pace and can figure as will Rajasthan. Box Up 1.5.7.8
Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the evening and Banjo Riley copped a cheque at the wrong time here last start when 4th in 30.17, he is well drawn in this and gets his chance. Select Hypo has handy short course form in Victoria and is amongst the main hopes. Add the Greg Board duo Spring Bolt and Spring Sadie for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.5.7
Race 3 - Exhilarating led early last start only to be run down by Another Storm in 29.83, he has good box manners and will be high balling again in front and hopefully pinch this. Nockatunga was a handy Maiden winner here in 30.17 from an inside draw and should only be improved by the run. Box Up 1.2.5.7
Race 4 - The two main chances in this look to be Maddison Kaye who was very unlucky here last week when falling and the newcomer Kipling who was a very game 2nd in the Mount Gambier Cup final, both are smart customers and are capable of carving out quick times. I’m Top Girl can continue her handy form and fill a place along with Boss McLaren who returned to form with a good win from this draw last start. Box Up 1.2.7.8
Race 5 - Tauwitchere has returned from a long stint in Victoria, she hasn’t raced since failing to beat a runner home in mid-June, she is a very smart when on song and is boxed for a forward showing in this. Alfieri along with Lektra Theory are both talented sprinters and cant be overlooked. Box Up 1.4.5.7
Race 6 - American Man loves a wide draw and he proved it here last week when winning in a BON 29.77 from this draw, he goes up in grade tonight and still is amongst the main chances on his recent performance. Ask Me Now is my top pick, he was a recent winner at the Mount from this draw and has the pace to kick up and lead from the rails. Axel Footluce and the inform Spring Cuervo for the minors. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 7 - As mentioned earlier Sunset Milo is making his city debut, he won the Mount Gambier Cup at his latest run by a nose over kennel mate Kipling, the former WA performer is drawn for a bold showing 1st up but will be at skinny odds. Venus And Mars wasn’t disgraced when 2nd at his 1st start in SA and is a must for our Trifecta, add Little Earner and Herculean for the First Four. Box Up 1.5.7.8
Race 8 - This is the Final of the 2020 King And Queens and with $4,500 to the winner its certainly worth winning, the early pace will come from Blister and Jabari, both have been beginning well in recent runs with Blister amongst the better chances. Rushes was very smart on debut when running on strongly to score in 29.80, the EX NSW performer is drawn to be right in the mix again and is my selection. Add Sweet Rose and Springvale Shine for the First Four. Box Up 1.3.4.7
Race 9 - How good is this 600m affair, we have to stick with the inform Defy, the Murray kennel has him in terrific form with 4 wins from his last 5, he gets his chance to hold the lead again and has a strike rate of 5 from 6 at this trip. Toora Ziggy is very strong and will be coming home as will Major Havoc who won in 34.99 here last week from a wide draw. Box Up 1.2.7.8
Race 10 - Golly Gumdrops has been freshened since her last start defeat back in July, she won here in a slick 29.79 from a rails draw two runs back and is sure to sprint well fresh. Springvale Vixen gets her chance to improve tonight, she has been missing the kick in recent starts from awkward draws she finds herself on the fence in this and will be running on. Box Up 1.2.5.8
Race 11 - We found a winner to go home on last week and we can do the same with Snakebite Me for the Rawlings kennel, he led here last start only to be run down by Springvale Ortiz, his short course form is 1st class so we will put him on top. Allinga Chloe is another pacey type, she is working towards a win on this circuit. Woodside Zulu and Allinga Ollie for the minors. Box up 2.4.7.8

It is possible for Interstate greyhounds to compete in SA, however, they must be transferred into the kennels of a trainer domiciled in SA.

GREYHOUND RACING SOUTH AUSTRALIA - 2020 SA COUNTRY CUP
Below are details of how and where greyhounds can qualify for the $6,430 SA Country Cup Final (G-SIX), to be run at Angle Park over 515 metres on Adelaide Cup Final night Friday, 9th October 2020.
Conditions
• All South Australian Greyhound Racing Clubs outside of Angle Park will conduct Heats, or nominate greyhounds from which the Greyhound Racing SA Grading Department will choose two representatives. These meetings are Gawler Provincial 2, Murray Bridge One Turn Provincial 1 and Mount Gambier Provincial 2. (Performances at Gawler Provincial 1 meetings are not eligible for consideration)
• The event is open to all South Australian greyhounds that are not above Grade 5 at Angle Park (APK City A & APM City B meetings only) over 515 metres at the time of nomination. Winner of each event takes a penalty including the Final.
There are no Special Exceptions this year as ALL greyhounds must be SA trained to be eligible:
o A South Australian trained greyhound is defined as one that has been racing in SA for a period of not less than 3 out of the 6 months immediately prior to the time of nomination.
• The trainer can only qualify for one of the Clubs.
• The trainer must have trained the greyhound nominated for the previous 3 months.
• Graders’ discretion will be used to determine the best nominated.
• The greyhound must have started at least 2 times in the last 12 months at the track it is attempting to represent.
• There will be a maximum of two Heats per Club with the winners of each Heat qualifying. If there is only one Heat conducted then the first two placegetters will qualify.
• The two reserves will be determined firstly by a ballot of the second placegetters from all Heats. The third placegetters will then be considered by ballot if required. If a Heat was not conducted at the track, then that track is not included in the ballot. Should a greyhound be withdrawn prior to the ballot, the next placed greyhound from that Club’s Heat will be selected.
• Once a greyhound has qualified from a Qualifying Heat, it is not eligible to compete at another track in this series, unless there are insufficient nominations to fill the field.
• Once qualified for the Country Cup Final the greyhound will be ineligible for the Adelaide Cup series or any other race on this Cup Final night.
• Lead up Heats may be up to 8 greyhounds, however, the Final on Adelaide Cup night will be a G-SIX Final
Qualifying:
Track Dist. Date of Meeting
Murray Bridge 455m Sunday 20.09.20
Gawler 531m Tuesday 22.09.20
Mt Gambier 512m Thursday 24.09.20
Country Cup Final Prizemoney Total - $6,430
GRSA PLAN TO DISSEMINATE SCRATCHINGS IN A MORE TIMELY MANNER
Historically, it has been GRSA’s standard practice to wait until after the appointed scratching time to officially release all the scratchings.
GRSA would not release any scratchings for a meeting until this time. However, in the current climate with many wagering organisations wanting to open markets early on our races, they are not able to do so due to greyhounds potentially being scratched for injury, illness, ineligibility etc. This can affect potential revenue back to the industry with persons not able to invest, or investing and having the market alter when scratchings are finalised. This will also provide greater transparency for trainers, staff and our business.
For a trial period of 3 months it will be GRSA’s intention upon receiving a scratching from a trainer to input this into OzChase at that time, which will then be made public through the GRSA website. Once the greyhound has been scratched by the trainer and made public it is considered as being withdrawn. This is not uncommon practice with other States doing the same thing. For greyhounds that become ineligible for a race meeting due to winning a Maiden event, racing on consecutive days, offending during the run or being injured on the night etc and engaged in another race meeting, GRSA staff will automatically scratch the greyhound (as it is ineligible) at either the completion of the meeting when finalised by the stewards or the next working day. We have always encouraged trainers to scratch these greyhounds that have become ineligible for their next engagements, however, this is not always the case with staff waiting to withdraw them at the appointed time. For trainers in certain circumstances that may wish to appeal an offence with their greyhound engaged in another event then they would be required to flag that intent with the stewards on the day.
The benefits of this change will provide -
- Transparency across our meetings
- Correct information in real time
- Wagering companies can field up to date markets
- Allows punters to wager with confidence
- Allows for wagering dollars not to be tied up until after the ‘All Clear ‘of a race if a selection was scratched
This will take effect from Monday, 24th August 2020.
