TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

As we kick start the month of December with a great night of racing here at headquarters, we have a massive 12 event programme and the highlight is the Final of the Group 3 Brian Johnstone ( race 8 ) which carries a very nice cheque of $25,000 to the winner. We also see the return of Sir Truculent (race 10 ), he was unbelievable last start when he was narrowly beaten in the Group 1 Bold Trease at Sandown last Friday night, full credit to Wally Harkins as he continues to take on the big boys with his champ and nearly collected the major prize. As usual all 12 events are Trifecta and First Four races…

Race 1 - Let’s hope we can start the night on the front foot with Mercedes Monelli, she will find this more to her liking than her past couple, she loves the inside and is very strong. Bold Mirage missed the kick here at his latest start, he will be running on and appears amongst the better chances. Corryong McLaren is our value runner for the First Four. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 2 - This certainly is a wide open affair with four newcomers making their debut, the Rasmussen kennel have two of them in Victa Emma and Victa Saige, both are sure to be well tried. Crossed Fingers is from the Butcher team and can’t be overlooked and we can’t leave Spring Driven out as she had plenty of support at her 1st start. Box Up 4.5.7.8

Race 3 - We will go with the ex-Victorian in this Illustration, she has only had the nine starts for a win and three placings and her recent form has all been over the 500m which brings her right into this as a lot of these have short course credentials. Missing Grace is well drawn and is a chance, add Go Go Dolly who can handle the wide draw. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - Rushes can bounce back tonight, she was well beaten here last week behind Fantastic Shell over the 600m, she is back to the sprint here and is drawn for a forward showing. Blister has won his past two here in quick times and has early pace. Almighty Stripe is in fine form winning four of his last five and is a must for our top three. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 5 - This is the 600m of the evening and its very hard to go past Fantastic Shell here, she has been high flying of late with quick wins over this trip and the sprint, she is boxed to win again. Toora Ziggy is very honest, he will be doing his best work late and looks the danger. Springvale Anna is the value runner and will be running on late. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 6 - Spring Burner found trouble here last week when unplaced at a short price favourite, he is well drawn and should bounce back into the winners circle tonight. Rockin’ Richard has handy short course form and looks a chance of leading while Recklessness should also show speed. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 7 - Sweet On Me should start the punters elect here, she won here two starts back in 30.07 and loves this draw. Classic McLaren is well drawn and is normally very strong, he has been in the money at his last five starts and is my each way special of the night. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 8 - This is the Final of the 2020 Brian Johnstone Feature, as mentioned earlier it carries a $25,000 to the winner and the Jane Mcnicholl Fly For Trix will start the short price favourite on his recent efforts, he has won his last six including two runs of 29.45 and 29.56, he is the form runner and should lead and win again. Chief Sebon can’t be overlooked for the First Four, he is on the improve and is well boxed. Love And Thunder and the pacey Our Boy Wolf for the minors. Box Up 1.3.5.7

Race 9 - The Chegia kennel should have a good night and they have one of the main chances in this with Fantastic Pippa, she led them a merry dance here last start winning by over 5L over the 600m in a slick 34.90, she drops back to the sprint here and looks the one to beat. Woodside Zulu will do his usual thing miss the start and run on late. American Man is in form and should be right in the finish. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 10 - This is the distance affair of the night and Sir Truculent will start the very short price favourite, he was runner up in the Bold Trease at Sandown last week, he has won 27 at this venue and is all class, he should win again. Line Seeker was very good on his SA debut when winning in 43.16 here last start, he had handy Victorian form prior and is a place hope. Box up 1.2.6.8

Race 11 - Under Study has been racing well here with two strong wins in his last three, he has been hit and miss on lid rise but from the rails draw looks one of the main chances. Rogue Planet improved last start when 2nd coming from well back, he is normally slow away and will be doing his best work over the final 100m. Iranian Girl won on her city debut in 30.32, she has early pace and should only improve. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 12 - Let’s hope we have had a good night on the punt, as its always good to go home on a winner, Gold Flyer gets the nod from me here in the last, she has been racing well being placed here at her last five starts, she can handle the wide draw and will be right in the mix. Long Gully Fred is another who has been racing well, he has the gun draw and is the danger. Box up 1.2.4.8

ANGLE PARK TRIALS THIS SUNDAY INSTEAD OF SATURDAY

GRSA has moved the Saturday morning trials at Angle Park on this Saturday  to Sunday to accommodate staffing availability.

In support of trialing opportunities it was considered best to move the trial session to Sunday. Trialing will commence on Sunday at 7am with bookings taken as per normal.

We will also change all Sundays going forward from an 8am to 7am start.

ADELAIDE GREYHOUND RACING CLUB AGM AT MCQUEENS TAVERN ON SUNDAY

DOUG PAYNE MOVED TO JANUARY 28TH

GRSA advise that the $8,580 Doug Payne SA Bred Feature Free For All has been moved to January 28th from its normal December timeslot. Due to the delay in the Brian Johnstone and other SA bred races in December GRSA looked at an alternate date. In liaising with the family they would not be able to attend until the middle of January due to their availability. With the SA Sprint Championship and John Gray conducted in the first part of January the earliest opening was on Thursday 28th January. This will allow the time honoured event “clean air” from other feature races so open dogs and SA bred dogs cannot be committed to other races. This will also allow the Payne family the opportunity to attend.

GRSA apologises for the change however with all the changes over the last few weeks, trying to ensure the family can attend and the best quality field can be assembled this was the best option. The Doug Payne should return back to the December timeslot in 2021.

2020 GAWLER GOLDEN MAIDEN FINAL ON SUNDAY

The fastest qualifier for the final was Victa Mikey for Tony Rasmussen who created a huge impression leading throughout in a slick 30.86 for the 531m journey. The other heat winner was just as impressive for different reasons when Barbados Express came from a mile back to score along the rails in a solid 31.41 for Ben Rawlings.

The final will be race 4 on Sunday due to start at 6.29pm SA time. Box Draw -

  1. Allegra                                              SCR
  2. Ninkasi                                              Graham Brown
