TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

For tonight’s 11 event programme we have a good mixture of racing over all three distances, I hope you followed last week as we were in fine form and our ROUGHIE of the night saluted by the barest of margins at the juicy odds of 11/1.  All races are Trifecta and First Four events and there looks to be a couple of good things throughout the evening.

Race 1 - Duke Of Wells has been racing well of late and led them a merry dance over the short with a strong win here last start, he steps up in distance tonight and should lead for a long way. Oakvale Blue will be charging home he can be tardy early and is the big danger. Joe Blake and Skylar Jen for the minors. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 2 - This is the 1st of two Maidens tonight and we will stick with Springvale Cher down in box 1, she continues to miss the kick but can go very close on the back of her run here last Thursday when a strong 2nd from the same draw. Another Peach has only had the one start when 2nd over the short she is sure to be right in the mix. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 3 - The 2nd of the Maidens and we will go with the Ray Fewings trained Sallynoggin, she finished 2nd on debut at Murray Bridge over 300m early this month, by all reports she has been trialling well since. Spofforth led here last start only to be run down by Coorong Dasher, he is amongst the main chances along with Go Go Dolly who is in the powerful Cameron Butcher kennel. Box Up 4.5.7.8

Race 4 - Coorong Nugget was very impressive here last start when winning by over 6L in a smart 29.71 from box 6, he is drawn for another bold showing. Oakvale Style should get a nice run here from her rails draw, she will be doing her best work late and is a must for our Trifecta, add Coorong Dasher and Hank The Hustler. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 5 - The Cameron Butcher kennel can make it a race to race double if Yarindale begins better than he has been, he is very strong and will be doing his best work over the last 100m. All Out Crazy is very smart on his night he looks the likely leader and is a big chance again. Tax Deduction is the value runner for our First Four.  Box Up 1.4.6.8

Race 6 - Maddie Me has struck form winning her last four starts all in good times, she has terrific early pace and looks very hard to beat once again on recent form. Hot Spartan is very strong and will be running on late, he is a definite for our Trifecta. Spring Cuervo has had a stint at Mount Gambier winning 3 of his last 5 at that venue, he is another who is very strong and is in the mix. Box Up 2.3.4.7

Race 7 - Its very hard to tip against the inform Shadow Mist, he has been outstanding winning 4 of his last 5 starts here all in quick times including a last start BON 29.47 he is our top pick. Long Gully Barny and Ashby Mayhem can fill the placings. Box up 1.2.6.8

Race 8 - Defy has been in top form over the 600m, he has won his last four here and Gawler and is dropping back to the sprint tonight with moderate beginners on either side he will be hard to beat once again. Loading Zone is drawn to run a place and Jervois Boy is more than capable of causing an upset if he pings the lids. Box Up 1.3.6.7

Race 9 - This is the Distance affair of the night and we will stick with No Surrender who was only beaten 2L here last week when scouting wide in the whole run (as usual) behind Boom Down, the small field will help and can go very close. Miss Bellawood will be the leader and is the one to beat along with Boom Down who is back in form. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 10 - The 600m racing in recent weeks has been 1st class and this should be no different, Toora Ziggy drops back to his pet distance tonight and is drawn to win, he has a terrific record over this trip but will be skinny odds. Tammy Parker is knocking on the door, she will be thundering home as will West On Bamboo. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 11 - In recent weeks we have been able to go home on a winner and I like one in this at each way odds Song An Stories, he resumed with a handy win at Gawler over the short winning by over 3L, he hasn’t had a huge amount of luck here in the past but will go well fresh. Aston Athena and Simple Man are a must for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.4.5.8

2020 SA DISTANCE AND SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS IN AUGUST – NOMINATIONS FOR THE SPRINT HEATS CLOSE ON MONDAY

The National Championships have been cancelled this year due to COVID-19. They were to be held at Wentworth Park in NSW and will now be held in 2021. SA and other States will still run their local series to establish the State’s best sprinter and stayer.

The $5,120 SA Heats of the Sprint will be run on Thursday, 6th August and the $8,580 Final on Thursday, 13th August.

The Distance will be conducted as a one off Best 8 on Thursday, 13th August worth $9,330. GRSA will provide a lead up race depending on numbers for the stayers as required.

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the nomination closing date to be eligible to represent SA, which going back is on Wednesday, 20th May 2020. If unsure of a greyhounds status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

Sky Racing will also support this series with ALL States conducting their Finals on the same night to be run within a 2 hour period. It makes for a great promotional concept.

*Nominations for the Heats of the Sprint close this Monday, 3rd August with GRSA at 9.00am.*

(Whilst the nominations for the Distance will close on 10th August the domiciliary conditions will be the same as the Sprint)

MURRAY BRIDGE SLIPPING TRACK NOW AVAILABLE

The Murray Bridge slipping track is now open for use. Participants that have previously registered their interest can now pick up their key fobs from GRSA reception.

If you intend to utilise the Murray Bridge slipping track as part of your ongoing training operation and will require access outside of normal business hours, please obtain a key fob by calling GRSA Admin on (08) 8243 7100.

GRADING REVIEW PANEL MAIN OUTCOMES FROM MEETING

MASTERS EVENTS (GRADE 5 AND MIXED) -  For City A, City B and Prov 1 Masters events the greyhounds 4yo and older will be selected on form with the greyhounds between 4 and 3 ¾ still on age. For Masters events conducted at Prov 2 meetings ALL greyhounds will be selected on age.

For the main Masters races which we normally run at the Angle Park Monday and Gawler Friday meetings, these will be on form for 4yo and older and for Gawler Tuesday and Angle Park Wednesday meetings it will be on age.  All other conditions still remain like time standards etc.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

MAIDENS - if there are not 6 or more Maidens nominated, then the race should not be conducted unless specifically needed to make up a program.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

HEATS TO FINALS - Where there are insufficient nominations to run Heats of an advertised event (less than 10 nominations normal events, middle distance and staying events), the event will be conducted as a one-off Final on the date when the Heats were scheduled. If the event is considered a feature event like the Stayers Cup for example or a memorial race, the one-off Final will be conducted on the date of the original Final and a normal graded event conducted at the Heat meeting.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

TIME GRADING

All Time Grading for all clubs in SA to be uniform with groupings (Maiden/1-4 wins/5+ wins).

For Time Grading events when there are two or more races, then the lowest rating time dogs (the fastest dogs for this grouping) are declared the reserves.

If a greyhound is a reserve for a Time Grading event and does not gain a start then they will automatically get a start in the next Time Graded meeting (no matter the track) so long as they are nominated.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

INDUSTRY CONSULATIVIE GROUP MEETING ON FRIDAY 7TH AUGUST

The next ICG meeting will be held on Friday, 7th August.  An Agenda is currently being produced and will be available for the panel members prior to the meeting.

REMOTE TRAINERS FEE TO ASSIST MOUNT GAMBIER MEETING

With continuing border restrictions affecting participation in the South East due to COVID-19, GRSA have decided to support the Mount Gambier meeting knowing the importance to be racing on a weekly basis during this time.

For those Trainers that live more than 150 kilometres from Mount Gambier and travel to this meeting they will receive an additional $75 payment to their normal Trainers Fee. The fee will be capped at one payment per registered premises and will continue until the borders are open.

2020 MOUNT GAMBIER CARNIVAL TO BE RUN IN AUGUST

The Mount Gambier Cup Carnival has been rescheduled to August, highlighted by the 2020 Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup Final to be run on Sunday 30th August. The Cup is a Group Listed event and will carry $14,275 in total prizemoney ($10,000 to the winner).

The Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup heats will be held on Sunday 23rd August and are open to the best 64 greyhounds nominated (plus reserves). On the same program, the Club will conduct heats of The Produce Store Feature Maiden over 512m.

To support the Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup Final, the event will feature a Consolation Final for greyhounds that competed in the heats (trainers will need to renominate for this event). Other races on the program will include The Produce Store Maiden Final, a Formula 400 Open Feature over 400m and The Tankman 600 Open Feature over 600m.

Nominations for the heats close with GRSA at 9.00am on Tuesday 18th August

Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA), in consultation with the Mt Gambier Greyhound Racing Club, felt it was important to ensure the Cup Carnival was held following its postponement in March due to COVID-19 pandemic. With recent Government announcements confirming longer term restrictions for Victorians entering South Australia, GRSA believed it was the right time to provide clarity and certainty to local participants regarding the 2020 Cup Carnival.

Whilst we had hoped our valued interstate trainers could attend the Carnival, GRSA will only accept nominations from locally trained greyhounds. For clarity, this does not prevent an interstate greyhound being transferred into an SA kennel to target specific feature races.
