Angle Park Preview - 30th January 2020
by The Shadow
The racing here at headquarters tonight on a hot evening appears very open, the 10 event programme gives us a chance to land a couple of handy Trifectas and First Fours. I like a couple of greyhounds at reasonable odds tonight so we will put them in for value.
Race 1 - The Rasmussen kennel has 5 starters in this and we will go with Hot Sambuca, he has a good turn of early pace and should be able to clear the inside brigade, if he does he is a chance of pinching this. Diamond Lee has found one better at her past 3 runs, she looks well placed once again. Box Up 3.4.5.8
Race 2 - This is a toughie. Mister Getty has handy Murray Bridge form over the short. He has early pace and if he can get the extra distance, looks a chance to break his Maiden. Sweet Rose is hit and miss early and will be doing her best work late. Add Exciting News for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.4.5.7
Race 3 - Step In Style was very impressive at his SA debut when winning here in 30.05, he looks the likely leader again and is our top pick. Right Exit continues to run into the placings and is having her 22nd try at trying to crack her Maiden status. Vontae Mack and Major Major for the minors. Box Up 1.2.6.8
Race 4 - All the speed will be coming from the pacey Long Gully Barny, he is in terrific form with 3 wins from his last 4 at Gawler, he should go very close in this. Fantastic Flame was checked early from this draw last week and flashed home. She should get a clear run in this and is the big danger. Box Up 2.6.7.8
Race 5 - This is the 600m of the evening and we will stick with Go Quantum out in box 6, he has handy sprint form and the extra distance should suit. Lose Your Blues has been in the money 9 of 11 over this trip and is a must for our Trifecta. Add No Surrender and Johnny Dark as the value runners for the First Four. Box Up 2.3.6.7
Race 6 - Very tricky event here so we will go with the pacey Could Be Magic, she can be hit and miss on box rise but if she steps will take beating. Collecting is more than capable when on song and a win wouldn’t surprise here. Rampage Luke is the form runner and is amongst the main chances. Box Up 1.4.5.6
Race 7 - The Sharyn Gray runner Double By Design has won his past 2 at Gawler, he can dwell on box rise but musters quickly, he will be right in the finish. Viking Vince had every chance here last start when a fading 4th he is a lot better than that effort and expect improvement. Box Up 2.4.6.7
Race 8 - The Rasmussen team hold the aces in this event, American Man is well drawn and is very strong in the run home he will take tossing. Tony’s Spark is a chance of getting a clear run from the wide draw and if does might be able to pinch this, add Slippers Away and Up Time Girl for the First Four. Box Up 2.3.4.8
Race 9 - With only the 4 runners it makes for an interesting affair, My Boy Bean is our pick, he has won 5 from 17 along with 6 placings, the Trengove kennel is in form and the small field should help. Sir Truculent will start the punters elect, he will be charging home, he is the main danger along with Cripps Dusty who flew late last start over the 600m. 5.7.3.1
Race 10 - It’s a terrific event to go home on, Whata Key has handy form from this draw in the past and might be the value runner at Each Way odds. Buy Me Diamonds is stepping up in distance tonight and his recent short course form is very good, add Soda Crash and Tornado Alley for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.8

MURRAY BRIDGE CUP AND MOUNT GAMBIER CUPS IN MARCH/APRIL WITH BIG BONUSES
It will be a big couple of months of racing in March and April for the Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier Clubs when they conduct their Cup meetings.
The Murray Bridge Cup heats will be conducted on Friday, 6th March (as the Murray Bridge Speedway is on the Sunday night, Murray Bridge and Gawler have swapped) with the $15,000 to the winner (listed event) to be run on Sunday night, 15th March.
The Mount Gambier Cup heats have moved back one week to assist with scheduling and will be on Sunday, 29th March with the $15,000 to the winner (listed event) final on Sunday, 5th April.
GRSA will continue a couple of bonuses to link both events which will include a $5,000 bonus if the same dog can win both the Murray Bridge Cup and Mount Gambier Cup and a $5,000 trainer bonus if the same trainer can win both Cups (SA or Interstate or different dogs).
MOUNT GAMBIER SATISFACTORY TRIALS
Trainers are advised of a change to the booking of Satisfactory Trials at Mt. Gambier. Mt Gambier hold trials on Tuesday and Saturday mornings with Satisfactory trials ONLY being conducted on Tuesdays and need to be booked with Barry Shepheard from the Club on 0419 824 512.
At Race meetings Satisfactory trials can be done when less than 12 races. When there are 12 races these can be considered, however, the trainer will not be able to kennel and must take their greyhounds home straight after the trial. These race day trials will also need to be booked through Barry at the Club. GRSA administration staff will NOT accept these bookings and trainers will be directed to contact Barry Shepheard.
TIME GRADED AND PATHWAY EVENTS (FOR ALL EVENTS)
The GRSA Racing Department wishes to advise of an update to the process of allocating reserves for Time Grading (worst-to-best) meetings. Currently the Time Grading methodology does not allow for the allocation of reserves to the majority of races, therefore increasing the likelihood of reduced field sizes.
Under the new methodology, greyhounds will be grouped into races according to their Time Rating, including the reserves:
• 8 greyhounds for G-SIX racing (6 in the field plus 2 reserves)
• 10 greyhounds for traditional 8 dog racing (8 in the field plus 2 reserves)
A random draw will then be conducted to determine the two reserve greyhounds.
If only one race then reserves as per Time Rating Rankings. This process is demonstrated in a table available on the GRSA website and Kennel Capers.
This change will be implemented for all Time Grading meetings from 1st January, 2020.
CHANGES TO MOUNT GAMBIER TIME GRADING FROM JANUARY 2020
After consultation with industry and local participants from the Mount Gambier region, GRSA will trial a Best to Worst format for the Mount Gambier Thursday meetings.
GRSA has made this change to accommodate the strong nominations for this venue and attempting to give all greyhounds of all abilities the opportunity to compete.
Conditions for the Best to Worst meetings will be based on the greyhounds Time Rating. There will be a limit of 5 as to how fast a greyhound can be rated. Greyhounds rated 4.75 to 1 will not be eligible for this meeting but will be given preference into the Sunday meeting of that week so long as they nominate and there is a race available. Under this format GRSA will be able to include reserves for all races under the dissection of the grader. The more than 50% of fastest rated greyhound eligibility clause will not refer to Best to Worst Time Graded events.
Please contact the GRSA Grader for further information about Time Graded events.
