TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

I can’t believe we are already in April, where have the months gone. Tonight on the 10 event card we have two heats of the Easter Cup over the 600m and they both appear strong and very good betting affairs. The 731m of the night we see the Wally Harkins trained Sir Truculent going for his 4th win on the trot, he is in outstanding form and should prove the goods again. We have a very strong contingent from Mount Gambier tonight so they are certainly worth following on their recent form.

Race 1 - It’s a tough one to kick the night off with as there appears to be several chances but we will go with the Mount Gambier visitor Call Me Billy, he is making his city debut here and looks to have a good turn of early pace. Springvale Jorja is my roughie she is better suited over more ground but is a big chance in this. Box up 3.4.5.8

Race 2 - Sweet On Me is the form runner, she has won 3 of her past 4 at the Mount and Murray Bridge, she has a terrific strike rate and should go close. Lawrie Road has handy short course form and is well drawn along with Blister who will be working home late. Box Up 2.3.5.8

Race 3 - This is the distance affair of the night and as mentioned earlier Sir Trucelent is in outstanding form with 3 wins on the trot, all in smart times he should be too strong again. My Boy Bean continues to run into the placings, he is a big chance with early luck. Add Kiranna Blue who is well drawn. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - Spring Cuervo is back in grade tonight, he has moderate beginners on his inside and should gain a clear run in the run to the 1st turn and prove hard to beat. Miss Takiri will be running on late. Box Up 1.3.4.7.

Race 5 - This is the 1st of the 600m and a very smart one at that, I will stick with Oakvale Magic who loves a wide draw and is very smart when on the lure, she should be hard to beat again. Zipping Galon is resuming from a short let up he is a strong type who should go very well over the 600 fresh. Box Up 1.3.7.8

Race 6 - The 2nd of the heats for the 2020 Easter Cup and we will go with Aston Chandon for the Ray Murray kennel, he has been in the money at his last 5 runs here and Murray Bridge, the inside draw is a bonus and can nearly lead and win. Cripps Dusty is a strong performer and is stepping up to the right distance tonight, add Super Blu and Toora Ziggy. Box Up 2.3.5.8

Race 7 - Alfieri was a big run here last week when a strong winner here in 29.98 from box 4, he is a smart type who is drawn for a bold showing once again. It’s a Riot has been freshened since running unplaced last start at The Meadows back in February, he has a handy strike rate and will be right in this. Box up 1.4.5.7

Race 8 - Boss McLaren returned to form with a smart win here last week from box 1 winning by over 4L in 30.03, he is well drawn again and looks the one to beat. Rampage Luke was strong last week and is well drawn. Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 9 - The Des Hockley trained Maddison Kaye can bounce back after her 3rd behind Major Major, she is a very talented sprinter who can lead and win. Silent Jacko was a last start Murray Bridge winner in good time and is drawn for a bold showing, add Jervois Boy for value. Box up 1.3.4.6

Race 10 - Tim Richards has Almighty Stripe firing, he has won his last 5 including a last start BOD run at the Bridge over the 395m, he can lead and win again tonight. Recklessness has handy short course form and can add value to our First Four. Dyna Alistair and Spring Vinnie to round out the placings. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Best Bets

Race 8 No: 3 - Boss McLaren

Race 9 No: 3 - Maddison Kaye

ANGLE PARK ON TUESDAY 7TH APRIL CANCELLED

GRSA advised that the meeting that was moved from Gawler to Angle Park on Tuesday 7th April has been cancelled.

Due to the Canine Gastroenteritis affecting nominations and fields for all race meetings across SA,  GRSA did not believe there would be enough nominations for both Angle Park Monday and Angle Park Tuesday to fill both meetings.

The Murray Bridge Straight Track meeting on Wednesday 8th April will go ahead as normal.

MOUNT GAMBIER TO RACE ON THURSDAY 9TH APRIL

After consultation with stakeholders from the Mt Gambier GRC, GRSA advises we will conduct the meeting set down for the club on Thursday 9th April, depending on nominations.

It would be the intention from this point to continue with a Thursday weekly meeting and remove the Sundays so the club will have one meeting per week on a Thursday. Please note this Sunday 12th April has been cancelled.

GRSA advises under current border regulations they are unable to accept any nominations from interstate trainers however are still working on exemptions and other alternates.

GAWLER EASTER FEATURES

With racing no longer conducted at the Gawler venue for the moment feature events programmed over Easter for this venue have been removed from the calendar.
