TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

It certainly looks to be a good time to start building the bank as there looks to be a couple of good things on tonight’s 12 event programme here at headquarters, we have 5 heats of the Leigh Rogers feature over the 530m which will make for good racing. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We can kick off with a winner in Victa Haydn for the Rasmussen kennel, he has been in good form of late and was a huge effort when running 3rd in the Gawler Cup final, he looks the one to beat. Kennel mate Forte Nero has been runner up at his last three here and is right in the mix again. Add Queen Redeem who has won her past two here in good fashion and that’s looks like the TRI. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 2 - The Rasmussen kennel has three of the six runners here and can nearly run the Trifecta with their charges in Express Black along with It’s Your Shout and Express Speed, all three were placed at their last run so they appear the chances. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 3 - Alfieri is resuming here tonight and is sure to be well tried, he can run quick times when on song and will take beating. Hot Spartan overcome early trouble to run 2nd here last week and can run a bold race once again. Sudden Force has early pace and was run down here last start from a middle draw. Box Up 1.3.5.6

Race 4 - I like one here at good each way odds in Tangelo Fire, she has been placed in four of her last five and with this being a wide open affair she gets her chance. Aston Antoine is well drawn and the Mathew Payne kennel is having a very good run at the moment. Foresaken can handle the wide draw. Box Up 1.5.6.8

Race 5 - Frankie Boy was checked here on lid rise last run and still ran 2nd he won prior in 30.58 and looks the likely leader and can go close. Jamie Lannister has won three of his last five along with two placings he is very strong and is the big danger. Lady Luck is well drawn down on the fence. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 6 - Mallee Magic can return to the winner’s circle here tonight, he has been missing the kick of late but has a big motor with clear running. Spring Drama was a last winner this track and distance and has been in the money at her last five runs she is well drawn and can run a cheeky race again. Add Rogue Player who gets back early and will be running on. Box Up 2.3.5.7

Race 7 - This looks a very good First Four race to have a crack at, we will stick with the inform Victa Saige who has won her past couple at Murray Bridge over the 530m in good times, she is well drawn again and has the pace to lead. Don’t Tell Lies is the improver from the nice draw, she can bounce back if she can ping. Springvale Rex has been in the money here in 5 of his 6 runs. Box Up 1.3.4.7

Race 8 - Tough event this one with a lot of chances, I like Barely’s Gem despite the draw she was a last start winner here in handy time and hopefully has the pace to clear them from the middle draw. Buzz Along will be running on strongly as will Midnight Bandit. Quinnish is very capable when on song and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 2.4.6.7

Race 9 - The Greg Board team look to have another handy type with Spring Ammo, he has had 11 starts and is yet to miss a cheque, he is well drawn and should be hard to beat at his city debut. Cosmic Kid along with Psychotic Babe for the minors. Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 10 - The Petar Jovanovic kennel has returned to the racetrack and they have a chance with Boombox Hammer here, he been racing in Victoria and should go well here 1st up. Victa Reid and He’s all Purpose are also chances on their night. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 11 - This is our distance affair of the night and with the scratching of Lashes Monelli it is wide open for the three runners left. Ill go with Aston Kipchoge from Porridge Box and then New Year Tears. 5,1,3 for $1

Race 12 - We go home with a 595m event and a very open one at that, Sherwood Bale has been racing well over this trip and looks one of the better chances. Way Too Much won from this draw three runs back and is right in the mix. Add Rockstar Ruby who can improve. Box Up 2.4.5.8

There are 5 heats of the Leigh Rogers Grade 6 feature tonight to be run over the 530m journey with some of the best young local talent looking to qualify for next Thursdays $14,275 Final on 4th November. The series has been extremely well supported by the industry and exciting prospects Frankie Boy, SA Derby winner Mallee Magic, SA Oaks winner Don’t Tell Lies, Quinnish and Spring Ammo will all be top chances in their heats to qualify.

With 5 heats the winners and the three fastest second placegetters will qualify for next weeks final. The box draw will be conducted oncourse tonight after the running of race 10.

GRSA introduced this race onto the feature race calendar four years ago in recognition of former long-time Food and Beverage Manager, Leigh Rogers, who lost his battle with a rare form of cancer five years ago. ANGLE PARK TRACK MAINTENANCE – CHANGE TO TRIAL DAYS NEXT WEEK

Please note that the Angle Park track will undergo a surface grade and medium harrow this Tuesday 2nd November, the first significant maintenance since the new track was laid in August.

As a result it is necessary to transfer the trial session scheduled for this day to Wednesday 3rd November, commencing at 6pm as normal.

This will allow the maintenance team sufficient time to return the track to a somewhat normal state for trials, however it is expected that times are still likely to be slower than normal.

The team will aim to have the track back to a perfect condition for the race meeting on Thursday 4th November.

GRSA apologies for any inconvenience caused by this change.

Both Murray Bridge and Angle Park will trial on this night.

GRSA SKY WEEKLY SCHEDULE TO CHANGE FROM 1st DECEMBER 2021

From the start of December, the Sky weekly schedule of greyhound racing in South Australia will change. The first two Sundays of any month will routinely be scheduled at Murray Bridge with the remaining Sundays being allocated to Gawler. The primary reason for the change is about providing both of those Clubs with an accessible weekly timeslot which helps them to cultivate a strong base of local patronage.

GRSA explored the opportunity that exists to secure a permanent Friday night timeslot on Sky but those plans were curtailed by the existing congestion of meetings in that spot. The model of ‘shared Sundays’ represented the next best solution for a strategy based on community engagement.

The Murray Bridge region is synonymous with racing, and has been the site of the two most significant infrastructure projects undertaken by SA’s thoroughbred and greyhound codes in the past two decades. GRSA expects trainer numbers to continue to grow in the region well into the future, and increasingly so as the traditional (greyhound) training regions to the north of Adelaide experience heightened levels of development. The strategy, as it relates to Murray Bridge, is also partly founded on the fact that the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council is such a proud supporter of local racing opportunities.

The schedule will transition from 1st December 2021, which will allow crowds over the December and Christmas period to enjoy prime-time racing opportunities at each of Gawler, Murray Bridge and Angle Park.

CHANGES TO FEATURE RACE CALENDAR

With the changes to the scheduling this has presented some programming issues for some of our feature races. GRSA has had to make some changes and alterations to accommodate the program. Below are some highlighted changes –

  • The Murray Bridge Oaks and Derby series will move forward 1 week and will be conducted on Sunday 5th and 12th December. (Maidens are eligible so long as they have raced or qualy trialled)
  • The Gawler Golden Maiden will move from late November and early December to Sunday 16th and 23rd January. It has moved due to Gawler Show the week before, a 5 day break with the final proposed on a Friday and the Murray Bridge Oaks and Derby taking this space.
  • Murray Bridge Cup heats in March will move from Friday 11th to Monday 14th with the final still on Sunday 20th March.
  • Gawler Produce series in June will race on Friday 10th and then Sunday 19th and 26th

All updated calendars for feature races for Angle Park, Gawler and Murray Bridge (Mt Gambier are not affected by the schedule) are available on the GRSA website

CHANGE TO ANGLE PARK SATURDAY IN DECEMBER

Greyhound Racing SA only has one Fortnightly Saturday Morning in December which was programmed on Saturday 11th December with no racing on Saturday 25th December due to Christmas Day. This would give us a 4 week gap until our next Saturday meeting in January. GRSA has liaised with Racing Queensland who advised that they are prepared to swap their Fortnightly Townsville meeting with ours for Saturday 18th December which will give SA a 3 week gap before and after our Saturday meetings.

Trials will remain on Sunday 12th December due to staffing at Angle Park and trials will now be on Sunday 19th December due to the race meeting. GRSA will update this to industry closer to the dates.

GRSA appreciates the support in regard to this change from Racing Queensland, the Townsville GRC and Sky Racing.

The date changes are listed below -

Delete: Angle Park – Saturday 11th December 2021 (TAB) Morning

Add: Angle Park – Saturday 18th December 2021 (TAB) Morning

NATIONAL STRAIGHT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP IS RESCHEDULED 19TH DECEMBER

Racing Queensland advises that The National Straight Track Championship (NSTC) Final has been rescheduled to 19 December 2021 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club. All participating states (GRV, GRNSW, GRSA, and RQ) remain committed to the series.

Interstate qualification will take place at Healesville (GRV), Richmond (GRNSW), and Murray Bridge (GRSA). All state finals will carry prizemoney of $5,000 to the winner.

To coincide with these dates GRSA has reprogrammed the heats to Tuesday 30th November with the state final on Tuesday 7th December

Queensland state qualifying heats will commence on 5 December with the state qualifying final on 12 December.

Two greyhounds from each state will qualify for the NSTC Final at Capalaba worth total prizemoney of $37,500 ($25,000 to the winner).

Whilst there is currently restricted access to Queensland for some parts of Australia, last Monday the Queensland Government announced that it is aiming to allow fully vaccinated interstate travellers to enter Queensland without the need to quarantine from 17 December 2021.

However, if an interstate trainer is unable to travel to Queensland, the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club have advised that interstate-based greyhounds are able to be hosted by Club for the purpose of racing in Final. These arrangements can be made by contacting the Capalaba Club on 07 3390 2772.

Full NSTC series conditions, including eligibility to nominate, are available on the GRSA website.
