Angle Park Preview - 28th May 2020
by The Shadow
Tonight’s programme includes the Group 3 feature final of the 2020 Howard Ashton over the sprint, its race 8 on the card and it carries a very respectable $25,000 TO THE WINNER and it certainly is a first class field. Other highlights for the night are two strong 600m events (races 5 & 6) with the first four placegetters going into next weeks 2020 Shane McQueen final. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events.
Race 1 - This is a terrific race to kick start the night, Little Earner looks the one to beat, she is quick early and should find the front and take a power beating. Major Major has been racing well and looks amongst the main dangers, add in Patrick Francis, he can add value to this race. Box up 1.4.6.7
Race 2 - With some newcomers in this without any form we will go with number 2 from the Corby kennel, she has a terrific strike rate with first starters. Sydney’s Star is well worth a wager on her last start. Aston Merlin is improving with every run. Box up 1.2.4.8
Race 3 - Wide open affair is what we have here, I like Finniss Reign, he is better than recent form suggests and with early luck gets a chance. Aston Alessio is another who is very capable and should start amongst the favourites. Add Ainsley Flash who has the gun draw. Box up 1.5.6.8
Race 4 - The book ends look the main chances in this with Air Marshall and Yarindale strong hopes, both have early pace and the leader should win. Oakvale Style looks to have a bright future; she is yet to beaten in her 4 runs and must be included. Box up 1.6.7.8
Race 5 - This is the first of the 600m events and it’s hard to go past Double By Design, he has strung together 5 wins in a row all in very good times, he is our top selection. West On Bamboo was a very good winner over the sprint here last week and is our value runner. Holy Reign is another who loves this trip and should be included. Box up 2.4.5.6
Race 6 - Two Times Twice had to be content with a minor placing here last week, he should jump straight to the front tonight and salute. Ask Me Now continued his good form with a win here over this trip last week and can run into the placings again tonight. Sir Truculent had his colours lowered when 2nd over the 731m last week, he is back in distance here and will be charging home. Box up 2.3.4.7
Race 7 - Danyo’s Charlie is in superb form winning his last 4 starts all in slick times, he is drawn to lead and win again. Winlock Huddy ran on strongly to make it 2 on end when winning here last week, he should get a clear run on the fence and can finish in the money. Sprite Monelli and Allinga Mal for the first four. Box up 1.2.3.8
Race 8 - This is the Howard Ashton final that has a heap of early pace in it! Coorong Lucy scorched the track here last week with a slick 29.46 B.O.N run winning by 6 lengths, she has terrific box speed and is our top pick. Long Gully Barny is another who is a quick beginner, he can punch up early but would need to lead to win. Toora Ziggy will be running on as will Jabari at massive odds. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 9 - The Rasmussen kennel rarely leave the track without a winner and they have Hot Sophie in fine form with 2 wins on the trot at Gawler, she has a handy record from this draw and is our top pick. Allinga Jess loves to run a place, she is drawn to get a clear run and is one for the trifectas. No Knowledge is coming off a win at Murray Bridge and Tyson’s Choice was handy for us last week when running 3rd at big odds. Box Up 1.2.4.7
Race 10 - Its certainly a toughie to go home on, I like one at each way odds with Dyna Adria, she must lead for a forward showing but is definitely worth a wager. Eighty Eight is working towards a win, he can find trouble but if able to possie up early is a major player. Box Up 1.4.5.7

CLASSIC AND BREEDERS FUTURITY PAYMENTS
Owners of SA Bred greyhounds are reminded that the next batch of Futurity payments are due on Friday, 19th June 2020.
The payments due are:
Classic 2020 – Final Payment (Pups born July 18 to December 18)
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first two Sustaining Payments have been made. The Final Payment is $121 per greyhound.
Breeders 2021 – Second Payment (Pups born January 19 to June 19)
This payment is for greyhounds for which the first Sustaining Payment was made last December. The Second Sustaining Payment is $55 per pup or a Final Payment of $121 can be made at this stage.
With regard to the First Payment for Classic 2021 (Pups born July 19 to December 19) GRSA has decided to delay these payments due to the current environment affected by COVID-19. This series will now only consist of two sustaining payments, First payment of $82.50 ($27.50 + $55) or Final Payment of $121 due Friday, 19th December with the Final Payment due in June 2021 for owners who paid the First Payment in December.
The payments for Classic 2020 and Breeders 2021 are unable to be delayed due to races programmed in August for Classic 2020 and having the First Payments already made for Breeders 2021.
To assist all owners of Futurity eligible pups, reminders will be sent out over the coming days. It is perhaps a good idea to make the payment as soon as you can, so it doesn’t slip your mind and the closing date passes. If you have sold a pup/s we would ask if you can either forward on the information or let Caralyn Fielden know at GRSA and she can follow it up. If you haven’t received a reminder by the end of this month and you think you should have, contact us as soon as possible.
MURRAY BRIDGE SUNDAYS TO FINISH AROUND 8PM GOING FORWARD
GRSA advise that we have liaised with Sky Racing regarding the finishing times of Murray Bridge on Sundays recently.
With COVID-19 restrictions in place Sky advised that where possible the meeting will finish around 8pm. This will aid participants returning home locally or travelling.
PANHANDLE SLIM RETIRED TO STUD
The 2018 Gawler Produce winner has officially been retired to Stud and will stand with Ray Murray for $1,200.
A winner of 23 of his 41 starts and over $57,000 in stakemoney he has battled injury all his career and it has finally stopped him from racing. The locally bred youngster by Kalden Komoto and Sometimes Speedy started his career in SA and built an impressive record highlighted by his 30.55 win in the 2018 Gawler Produce final. He was then sent to the flying Jason Thompson kennel where he was impressing the kennel winning a heat of the Cranbourne Classic showing his abundance of ability. Thompson was so impressed he took him to NSW and won a Grade 5 race at Wenty Park before the Million Dollar Chase series. Unfortunately he cracked a hock when winning that race at Wentworth Park and had 8 weeks off. He recovered and won his next 4 straight with Jason Thompson getting him ready for a Melbourne Cup campaign. Injury again struck him down tearing both tendons off his stoppers which had to be stitched. Another stretch on the sidelines saw him come back to SA and in a blaze of glory on his return to the race track he was able represent SA at the inaugural National Straight Track Championship at Healesville in Victoria in 2019 after easily winning the state final. He went within .01 of the 395m Murray Bridge track record and had his sights set on the 2020 Murray Bridge Cup over the 455m. Again luck was not on his side being dragged down in a heat and cracked the other hock which was his 41st and last race start back in March.
He has a terrific temperament and a never say die attitude on the track. Many other greyhounds may have never made it back to the track after his first set back but he kept on turning up and performing.
ADMINISTRATION TIME CHANGES
As part of the changes previously advised by GRSA during the COVID-19 pandemic, GRSA have altered their Administration Business hours.
Normal Business hours would be 8.30am to 4.30pm, however, from Monday, 4th May these have varied to 8.30am to 3.30pm during this period. This change is part of GRSA’s strategy to reduce costs where it can; in order to help alleviate the downturn in business income.
This will have an effect on scratching closing times and trials being booked. Both will now close at 3pm when they would have normally closed at 4.00pm.
Access to the Office and Telephone calls will only be available up until 3.30pm from Monday to Friday.
This will also have some implications on race books with the change in nomination times and early closing of the office there will only be a one page per race book provided which will also save on costs during this period. All information is still available on the GRSA website.
Due to the reduction in office hours participants need to be mindful when lodging paperwork that the processing time may take longer.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during these challenging times.
SCRATCHINGS FOR THOSE MEETINGS THAT CLOSED 4PM THE DAY BEFORE WILL NOW BE 3PM
As advised above trainers please note that scratching’s for ALL meetings that would have closed at 4pm the day before will now close at 3pm the day before.
MURRAY BRIDGE TRIALS
GRSA advise that from March there will no longer be an officiating staff available to clear greyhounds for Satisfactory trials and Qualifying Qualy trials on the fortnightly Tuesday nights at Murray Bridge.
GRSA will send an official to Murray Bridge on a monthly basis on a Friday morning trial session, which has both tracks trialling. This presents an opportunity to also include the Straight Track for Qualifying and Satisfactory Trials. The next trial session will be Friday, 19th June.
NON ESSENTIAL PERSONS ONCOURSE AT RACE MEETINGS
GRSA reminds participants with children that due to the COVID-19 restrictions non essential persons and the public are not allowed oncourse which includes children.
Unfortunately during school holidays this can be difficult for some of our participants to manage however they need to make other arrangements for them.
GRSA appreciates the significant changes in place for the industry during this time and appreciates the efforts that are being made and continue to be made to abide due social distancing and restrictions.
