TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

As we end another month the past couple of weeks we have been on the right side of the ledger at the pointy end of the night, with a handy 10 events tonight we can continue to work towards a good night on the punt and there appears to be a couple throughout the evening that can hopefully fill our pockets. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We can kick off the night with an early winner with the Rasmussen trained Tornado Alley, he has been battling big time of late in tougher company, he is right back in grade tonight and can go close. Emerley Zero has been very strong of late and is very close to breaking through, add Diamond Lee for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 2 - Danyo’s Charlie should have the edge in this on his recent form with 2 quick wins here in his past couple of starts, he has a ton of early pace and is our top pick. Boss Three Fifty has proven costly in recent runs but is more than capable on his night. Collecting is well drawn and can figure from the draw. Box up 1.5.7.8.

Race 3 - There looks to be several chances here but we will go with Power Burner who should find this more to his liking, he has struggled here at his last 3 runs but the draw will bring him right into the mix. Lucy’s Otis along with Crowdza Jumpin are the main dangers. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - The 600m racing of late has been first class and this is no different, Two Times Twice loves this trip he has won 5 of 6 and carved out a slick 34.90 here last week, from box 3 he looks far too smart again. Holy Reign who has been missing the kick of late will be running on late along with Canya Chase and Oakvale Magic. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 5 - If you watched the run of Coorong Lucy in last weeks final she is an absolute special tonight, she missed the kick was checked early and still won in 29.87 and continued her winning record of 9 wins from her past 10 at this venue ,she is all class and should win again. Soda Crash and Established for the minors. Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 6 - This certainly is a wide open affair and we will stick with Lose Your Blues down in box 1, she is back in distance tonight and is a chance of being on the pace early with luck, she is strong and will be at handy value. Danyo’s Bully is a pacey type and will be right in the mix along with Emerley Judge. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 7 - There is a newcomer in this in Fantastic Pippa, she has only had the 4 career runs with a win and 2 placings, she hasn’t raced since December last year and is in an astute kennel and is sure to be well tried. Hot Sambuca is the likely improver as he is a lot better than form suggests. Box Up 2.3.5.7

Race 8 - This is the final over the 600m and it is certainly a wide open affair after last weeks heats, the main chances look to be Worth A Shout and Gemma Nismo both have handy recent form. Danyo’s Gretta was very smart when winning in good time and my roughie of the night Our Airman ran on nicely at big odds. Box Up 2.3.6.7

Race 9  - The Sharyn Gray kennels is always around the mark and they have a big chance in this with I’m Top Girl, she won at Gawler last start and will be the one running home late in this. Lenny The Jet is more than capable on his night along with Cawbourne Hunter who has been mixing his form. Box Up 4.5.7.8.

Race 10 - We end the night with a distance affair and My Boy Bean is the inform runner, he has won his past 2 here both in quick times and looks the measuring stick once again. Kiranna Blue is definitely a place hope along with Sir Truculent who will be flying late. Box Up 1.4.6.8.

GAWLER BREEDERS 2020 HEATS TOMORROW AT GAWLER

The first part of the Breeders 2020 series kicks off tomorrow at Gawler with two heats over the 400m. The series features impressive types Maddison Kaye, See You Smile and Long Gully Barny in heat 1 and Dusty Divot, Cardhu Too and Tax Deduction in heat 2.

The first four from each heat qualify for next Sundays Final, 8th March at Gawler. This series is for SA Bred greyhounds paid up for Breeders 2020.

ZIPPING GALON MAKES GROUP 1 SUPER STAYERS FOR TRAINER BEN RAWLINGS ON SATURDAY NIGHT

Recent addition to the Rawlings kennel, Zipping Galon did a terrific job last week to run third in the Group 1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers heats and qualify for Saturday night’s final.

He has been in excellent form locally and whilst beaten a fair way in his heat they did run the fastest heat time suggesting he is in the mix at good eachway value. He has drawn box 6 in the final to be run at 8.40pm local time.

Joining him in the final will be the SA Owned Rajasthan who ran second in his heat. Owned by Tim Aloisi, Matt Lehman, Damien Bates and Mick McSorley, he has drawn box 3 and will be hoping to win another Group 1 in Victoria after talking our the rich Sandown Cup last year.

LOCALLY OWNED STARS MAKE THE GROUP 1 AUSTRALIAN CUP SATURDAY NIGHT

Aston Kade (box 1) locally owned by Ray Borda and Mister Harlewood (box 2) locally owned and bred by Gino Grgurovic both made the Group 1 Australian Cup final on Saturday night after winning both their heats respectively.

Locally owned Shima Breeze has also been made 1st reserve as she was last year after being the fastest greyhound when running second in her heat. Hopefully she can get a start like last year and give SA a strong local hand in the Group 1. The Australian Cup final will be race 9 on the program due to start at 9.20pm SA time.

LAUNCHING PAD SA SERIES - NOMINATIONS FOR HEATS CLOSE ON MONDAY

Again this year the Sandown GRC offered sweepstakes tickets into the rich Launching Pad Series.

There are special conditions on the race, being for greyhounds that have won between 1 and 6 races and have not had more than 30 starts at close of their nominations.

The Heats will be run at Sandown over the 515m on Thursday, 26th March with the Semi-Finals on Thursday, 2nd April and the $150,000 to the winner Final run on Thursday, 9th April. Greyhound Racing SA was able to secure a ticket and will give one greyhound the opportunity to compete in this lucrative series. We will run a Heat and Final series to determine who will make the Launching Pad Heats on 26th March.

Our Heats will be run next Thursday, 5th March over the 515m at Angle Park for any greyhounds that have won 1-4 races and no more than 28 starts. The Heats will be worth $3,855 and will be Non Penalty events. The Final will be run at Angle Park on Thursday, 12th March over the 515m with prizemoney of $5,545 and will also be Non Penalty.

The winner of the Final will take their spot in the Launching Pad Heats two weeks later, however, if the winner for whatever reason cannot take their spot then the next qualified greyhound will be given that spot.

GRSA has restricted the series to 1-4 wins and 28 starts incase a greyhound wins both the heat and final so this will still keep them eligible. We have also made our Final two weeks before the Launching Pad Heats at Sandown to give the trainer an opportunity to get across the border and trial for the big race.

• Nominations close with GRSA for the SA Heats at 9am on Monday, 2nd March.

ACCELL THERAPY MAT MOVED INTO VET CLINIC

Management has moved the Accell Therapy mat into the Vet Clinic to provide a greater opportunity for it to be used.

It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. Please do not hesitate to ask when next in the Vet Clinic at GRSA.
