TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We should all have a few dollars left after the lockdown as we couldn’t have a punt here last Thursday, there looks to be a couple of good things on the 12 event programme so we can hopefully end up on the right side of the ledger. The highlights for the evening we have a strong 600m event to kick start the night two strong semis of the 2020 Brian Johnstone (races 3@4) and a 731m event which is race 10 on the card. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - This is the 600m of the night and we will continue to stick with Rushes, he is a class act with clear running and with moderate beginners on his inside he looks the leader. Fantastic Shell led them a merry dance over this trip last start for a smart 34.92 win, she looks the main danger .Add Shadow Burner and the well-drawn Springvale Issy. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 2 - Major Major has been in superb form winning the Gawler Gold Cup then ventured over the border and won at the Meadows, he has the early pace to lead and looks one of the better bets of the night. Woodside Zulu will do his usual and run on, add Cawbourne Scar and American Man for the First Four. Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 3 - This certainly has a lot of depth and its hard to go past Fly For Trix who is in career best form winning his last five here including a slick 29.45 two runs back, he looks very hard to beat. Our Boy Wolf is another who is racing well, he has good box speed and will be right in the mix from the draw. Sallynoggin has good form and looks a trifecta hope. Box up 1.4.7.8

Race 4 - Fly For Fashion has been beginning better and with that has won her past two in handy times, she has moderate beginners on her inside and should be able to lead and will take beating if she does. The big danger is Love And Thunder out in box 8, she is very strong and has won her past two here and can handle the wide draw. Oakvale Blue is a chance if she is close enough into the back as she lacks early pace. Box up 1.4.5.8

Race 5 - Gold Flyer has found one better at her last four runs, she is well drawn tonight and gets her chance to break through. Hali’s Girl is a pacey type, she hasn’t missed a cheque in her last five runs and is a must for the First Four. Sutton Daisy and Priscilla Wang are racing well and are each way chances. Box Up 1.3.5.6

Race 6 - Wooden Tiger is back to the sprint tonight, he can be hit and miss on box rise but if he steps will take beating as he is very strong. Jacks Well has early pace and is a chance of leading, he loves a wide draw and must be respected. Mercedes Monelli is in form and will be right in the mix. Box Up 2.3.6.7

Race 7 - The Greg Board kennel has been in fine form of late and they have a big chance with Spring Burner in this, he has won two of his last three both in good fashion, from his rails draw tonight he will take a power of beating. Another Storm has his fair share of ability and looks the danger, he has broken 30 here in the past and is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.3.5.7

Race 8 - Defy returned to the winners circle at Murray Bridge at his latest effort winning in a slick 29.93 over the 530m, he will need a clear run early to be in the mix. Rajasthan gets his chance tonight from his draw, he has the pace to lead and is normally very strong so we will put him on top in a tough affair, add McLaren Illusion for value. Box Up 2.3.6.7

Race 9 - There is a lot of early pace here so we will go with Buddy Guy who might be able to kick up early and skip away into the back from his draw of two. Sweet On Me led throughout here last start for a 30.07 win, she is the danger.  Classic McLaren is very strong and goes well from a wide draw. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 10 - This is the distance affair of the night and Miss Bellawood has been in fine form winning over the 515m here in a slick 29.63 then over the short last start in 22.13, she is very smart when on the lure and will prove hard to beat again tonight. Line Seeker has crossed the border, he was placed at Sandown two runs back over 715m, he is sure to be well tried on his SA debut and is one for our Trifecta. Angry Trip has been in terrific form and will be right in the finish. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 11 - Rogue Planet should start the punters elect here, he has been mixing distances of late and has found plenty of trouble in recent runs, he has been placed in two of five starts here and is amongst the chances. I like Adios McLaren down in box 1, his wins are far and few between but he gets his chance tonight if he can be handy in the run to the 1st turn he is very strong and cant be left out. Cripps Dusty will be powering home and is the value runner. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 12 - This is the last of a big night of racing and we will go with Allinga Chloe who is in the Yvonne King kennel ,she was a last start winner here in 30.14 and has a good turn of early pace so we will make her our top selection. Lily Pad handles a wide draw and has been around the mark of late, she is more than capable on her night. Jacks Knight is always a place hope despite his poor draw. Box Up 1.2.5.8

2020 BRIAN JOHNSTONE SEMI FINALS TONIGHT

Tonight we see the running of two terrific semi-finals of the 2020 Brian Johnstone (Group Three) which were delayed from last week.

The first semi-final features the clash between Our Boy Wolf for Brenton Prouse and Fly For Trix for trainer Jane McNicholl. It looks a great race to kick the semi-finals of and is race 3 on the program.

In the second semi-final kennel mates Oakvale Blue and Love And Thunder for Nathan Wilson takes on Fly For Fashion for Jane McNicholl . This will be race 4 on the card tonight.

The first four from each semi-final qualifies for the $37,500 Brian Johnstone final on Thursday 3rd December with the fastest fifth being declared the first reserve and the slowest fifth the second reserve. The box draw for the final will take place on course tonight after the running of race 5 tonight.

2021 GAWLER PRODUCE STAKES – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW

The 2021 Gawler Produce Stakes will be run by GRSA in conjunction with the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club. Once again we will offer guaranteed Final stakemoney of $22,000. The estimate for the total series prizemoney is $40,000, based on this years series. The series is for greyhounds whelped in 2019.

In 2021 we will again be offering additional incentives for trainers to nominate. A bonus will be offered to any greyhound which can win both the Produce Stake and the Gawler Gold Cup.

The jackpot has increased from $8,000 to $9,000 as Long Gully Barny missed out on winning the Gawler Gold Cup this year.

The SA Bred bonus will also be continued; should the winner of the Final be SA Bred, there will be a SA Bred bonus of $1,000 to the owner and $500 to the breeder.

The series will be in June/July with the Final on Sunday, 4th July 2021. (Pending approval)

GRSA administers the event for the Club, so all payments are to be made to GRSA. The fees are, one-off payment option $121.00 or the sustaining option of $33 (first), $55 (second) and $88 (Final).

Nomination Forms are available, along with the full list of conditions and the payment schedule.

* Nominations for the 2021 Gawler Produce will close tomorrow (Friday, 27th November) with GRSA.

SIR TRUCULENT PRIMED FOR GROUP 1 GLORY IN BOLD TREASE FINAL TOMORROW NIGHT

South Australia’s Sir Truculent has made an impact on the Victorian greyhound racing scene after his great run in last week’s heats secured him a spot in Friday night’s Group 1 Bold Trease Final at Sandown. A 715m race with $150,000 in prize money up for grabs, Sir Truculent is facing some stiff competition against favourites such as Houdini Boy and Sunset Bourbski.

As greyhound racing was brought to a standstill in South Australia last week for the first time since World War II, Sir Truculent was lining up in a tough heat at Sandown Park to try to make it through to the Group 1 final. ‘The Truck’ sat comfortably in second for the majority of the race, gaining on the winner Sweet As Emm down the front straight, who was able to hold on by a head to the South Australian stayer.

Trained by Wally Harkins, this isn’t Sir Truculent’s first attempt at Group 1 glory in Victoria after running in the 2020 TAB Topgun Stayers at Meadows earlier this month. While he missed out on the top three, finishing fifth, Barney ran a strong race and is only looking to improve on his Melbourne form this Friday night. While the market has the favourite in Houdini Boy, if Sir Truculent can show the form he is accustomed to at Angle Park, the South Australian could claim his biggest win to date.

The whole of South Australia will be watching Sir Truculent, hoping for him to pip the field all at the post for what would be a great South Australian victory at Sandown Park.

ANGLE PARK FRIDAY (TOMORROW) MOVED TO MORNING DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT

GRSA advise after the latest forecast update from the Bureau of Meteorology was received this morning and acting under the GRSA Hot Weather Policy tomorrows Angle Park Meeting (27th November) has been moved into the Morning timeslot. The first race will be at 9.22am and the last of 10 at 11.50am. Kennelling will be 8am to 8.45am.

GRSA appreciates the support of Sky Racing for this change.

CURRENT GRADING OF RACE MEETINGS (G-SIX – 8 dog fields)

For Angle Park, Murray Bridge and Gawler we are on a G-SIX and 8 dog Quad program based on the recent lockdown period however this may change based on the nominations across the weekly schedule.

If GRSA feel’s a meeting is struggling we will revert to G-SIX across venues and consider the number of races conducted. GRSA will be nimble in this space to ensure our weekly schedule is supported.

Mt Gambier sits separately to this as they can only race once a week at present so we will run as many races as possible and up to 8 dog fields where possible.

SA / VIC BORDER – MOUNT GAMBIER

At the moment Victorian trainers can enter into SA to race at Mt Gambier if they have approval as a cross-border community member from SAPOL and reside in a 70km radius from the border. However if Victorian trainers travel into Victoria more than 70km, they cannot rely on their exemption to then enter back into SA.

From the 1st December, the SA Government have intimated that they will open the border to Victorians without restriction. However the Victorian Government is currently restricting people travelling from SA to Victoria, due to the recent outbreak in Adelaide, so we would be unclear if there are restrictions placed on these Victorian trainers heading back to their state.

GRSA are hopeful the SA Government confirm the opening of the borders with Victoria from 1st December and also the Victorian Government advise there is no restriction getting back into their state, in the next few days.

If this is the case then GRSA will accept nominations from ALL Victorian trainers for the meeting scheduled at Mt Gambier on Thursday 3rd December with those nominations closing on Monday 30th November at 9am.

However GRSA cannot make this decision without SA and Vic Government direction confirming the opening of the borders either way. As soon as this is confirmed GRSA will advise industry.

DOUG PAYNE MOVED FROM EARLY DECEMBER

GRSA advise that the Doug Payne SA Bred Feature Free For All has been moved from the next Angle Park meeting (3rd December) due to the Brian Johnstone being delayed one week.

This time-honored event was then to be run in late December however this also possess some issues with the Payne family unable to attend and the programming leading into January’s SA Sprint Championship. We will advise the confirmed position after more consideration.

NEWMAN MCDONNELL MEMORIAL TO BE RUN ON 24TH AND 31ST DECEMBER

With the Mt Gambier meeting cancelled last week due to the lockdown they had programmed heats of the Newman McDonnell Memorial Grade 5 over the 512m.

This series will now be programmed on the 24th December for the heats and 31st December for the final which will also allow the families to be in attendance for this Memorial series.

GRADING REVIEW PANEL MEETING ON MONDAY

The next Grading Review Panel meeting will be held at GRSA on Monday, 30th November 2020 at 11.30am. An agenda has been sent to the panel members with grading related items to be discussed at the meeting.

We introduced the fortnightly Saturday morning meeting at Angle Park with these meetings being Time Graded with alternate conditions as this is the biggest group or greyhounds.

There will be a meeting on this Saturday, 28th November.

The next meeting will be on Saturday, 12th December which will be a Timed Graded Meeting - “Worst to Best” rating. 1-4 AND 5 + WIN RACES WILL HAVE FIRST PREFERENCE

RE GRADING FOR ALL TRACKS AND DISTANCES
