TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

We are in for another terrific night of racing here at headquarters tonight with the highlight being the running of the 2021 Brian Johnstone final over the 530m and with $25,000 to the winner on offer it certainly makes for an interesting affair (race 8 on the programme). With only the 10 events we need to get on the front foot early and stack the wallet.

Race 1 - Victa Grosso can kick start the night for us, he has been in good form winning his last three here and Murray Bridge, he is drawn to win again. Forte Nero is a run-on type who is well drawn he is back in distance here and has a good record here. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and Razzle Darryl led them a merry dance early only to be run down late to finish 2nd he can go one better here and our selection. Onix Bale along with Express Speed can improve and look place chances. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 3 - I love my distance racing and we will go with Porridge Box in a handy affair, he has won 3 of 6 this track and distance and is amongst the better chances again. Frankie Boy is drawn to bounce back after being disappointing here last week. Add Barbados Express who is more than capable of showing up and is strong. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 4 - With only the five runners here Jack’s Well looks very hard to beat, he ran 3rd in this years Adelaide Cup final and was a last start winner here over the 595. Fly For Trix is the form runner, he has won four of his last five and showed his early pace when winning here last week. Major Major is strong as is Victa Reid. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 5 - This is a wide open affair and I have gone with Salt And Pepper who has the good draw, she can show pace when on song and is amongst the better chances. Velocity Fairy has early burn but gets the staggers over the last 50m but we can’t leave her out. Add Psychotic Babe who is one for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.5.6.8

Race 6 - Victa Mikey found a heap of trouble here last run, he was in fine form prior and is a chance of bouncing back here. Spring Crossing is well boxed and will be running on. Aston Wines goes well here and has the pace to lead, add Straight Blaze who can handle the wide draw. Box Up 2.3.7.8

Race 7 - The Rasmussen kennel has a new one here in Tom The Cheap, he trialled very well here at his first look and will take beating with a repeat performance. Sassy Izzy is drawn to be in the mix as is Outback Rebel. 1.2.7.8

Race 8 - This is the Final and with the $25,000 to the winner on offer the two Victorian sprinters in Earthworm Jim and Nike Apache look to be very hard to beat, both have won here and made their way through to tonights Final. Zinfandel Bart is another who has been in good form he has won his last three here and has a good turn of early pace. Spring Drama will be running on and is one for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.5.6

Race 9 - This is a wide-open event and I will go with the well-drawn Boombox Hammer, he can be tardy early and from the draw should be running on strongly. Victa Kurt is more than handy and will be right in the mix along with the pacey Lana Road. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 10 -  Ray Fewings team is certainly going well at the moment and he looks chance again with Always Ho Ho, she has won her last three here and Gawler and is well drawn. See You Smile broke through for a good win here last Thursday and is right in the mix again. Box Up 2.4.6.8

GRSA SKY WEEKLY SCHEDULE TO CHANGE FROM 1st DECEMBER 2021

From the start of December, the Sky weekly schedule of greyhound racing in South Australia will change.

The first two Sundays of any month will routinely be scheduled at Murray Bridge with the remaining Sundays being allocated to Gawler. The primary reason for the change is about providing both of those Clubs with an accessible weekly timeslot which helps them to cultivate a strong base of local patronage.

GRSA explored the opportunity that exists to secure a permanent Friday night timeslot on Sky but those plans were curtailed by the existing congestion of meetings in that spot. The model of ‘shared Sundays’ represented the next best solution for a strategy based on community engagement.

The Murray Bridge region is synonymous with racing, and has been the site of the two most significant infrastructure projects undertaken by SA’s thoroughbred and greyhound codes in the past two decades. GRSA expects trainer numbers to continue to grow in the region well into the future, and increasingly so as the traditional (greyhound) training regions to the north of Adelaide experience heightened levels of development. The strategy, as it relates to Murray Bridge, is also partly founded on the fact that the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council is such a proud supporter of local racing opportunities.

The schedule will transition from 1st December 2021, which will allow crowds over the December and Christmas period to enjoy prime-time racing opportunities at each of Gawler, Murray Bridge and Angle Park.

CHANGE TO ANGLE PARK SATURDAY IN DECEMBER

Greyhound Racing SA only has one Fortnightly Saturday Morning in December which was programmed on Saturday 11th December with no racing on Saturday 25th December due to Christmas Day.

This would give us a 4 week gap until our next Saturday meeting in January. GRSA has liaised with Racing Queensland who advised that they are prepared to swap their Fortnightly Townsville meeting with ours for Saturday 18th December which will give SA a 3 week gap before and after our Saturday meetings.

Trials will remain on Sunday 12th December due to staffing at Angle Park and trials will now be on Sunday 19th December due to the race meeting. GRSA will update this to industry closer to the dates.

GRSA appreciates the support in regard to this change from Racing Queensland, the Townsville GRC and Sky Racing. The date changes are listed below -

Delete: Angle Park – Saturday 11th December 2021  (TAB) Morning

Add: Angle Park – Saturday 18th December 2021  (TAB) Morning

CHRISTMAS SET TO HEAT UP AT ANGLE PARK

Things are expected to heat up at Angle Park during the two weeks leading into Christmas with the introduction of six rich events over the 530m, 595m and 730m distances.

Dubbed the “Festival Of Fire”, the series will provide opportunities for the best 48 nominations for the 530m trip, the best 28 nominations over 595m, and the best 8 nominations for a 730m event.  Separately, heats and final of a restricted event (0-5 wins), running from Saturday morning to Thursday night, will provide a separate opportunity for that category of runner.

The Festival of Fire series will commence on the racenight of Thursday December 16, continue into the Saturday timeslot and then culminate in 5 finals and a special stayers event carrying a collective purse in excess of $100,000 the following Thursday night (December 23).  As a new event, the Board has resolved that the top-up amounts for this series will sit outside the Wagering Activity Payments (WAP) model.  This means that the majority of the stakemoney for the series will be additional to the guaranteed return that has already been committed to industry through the WAP model.

Conditions –

  • Greyhounds must be SA trained.
  • Greyhounds must be in South Australia as of midnight 1st November 2021 to be eligible (greyhounds that have not had their first training amendment lodged that are in SA at this time will be eligible)
