Angle Park Preview - 25th March 2021
By The Shadow
Tonight at HQ we have another 12 event programme and the highlights are 3 heats of the Easter Cup held over the 600m, races (3 to 5). The 731m racing in recent weeks has been hotting up which is race (9), we see a terrific battle over the journey with seven runners. The SA owned Stake race (10) is high quality with six classy youngsters engaged who have been racing well. Don’t forget all events are Trifecta and First Four races and let’s hope we can be on the front foot at the end of the night.
Race 1 - The Rasmussen kennel has a strong chance in the opening event with Victa Maggie, she showed pace to lead here last start only to be run down, she is well drawn and is one of the better chances. Dashing Jinx has been the bridesmaid at all her three career runs, she will be running on strongly and is right in this. Add the newcomer Harboring who is in the Kirin Corby kennel as she has a terrific strike rate with their youngsters. Box up 1.2.4.7
Race 2 - Springvale Cher has been knocking on the door, she has been placed here at her last three and from the draw should go very close. Break Time can improve and has good box manners. Deadly Mamba and Blue By You both are having their 1st starts and must be kept safe. Box Up 1.2.5.7
Race 3 - This is the 1st of the 600m and we will go with Major Havoc, he has won three from nine here and has the early pace to clear them from the draw. Gary’s Miracle was well supported here last start when unplaced, where there’s smoke there’s fire so he can’t be overlooked. Maximum Refusal and Yenderra Evie who flew late here last start to win are all chances in a very open affair. Box Up 1.2.5.7
Race 4 - The 2nd of the Easter Cup heats and Rugged And Ready won two on the trot here in good times, he has the early pace to lead from the good draw and is our top pick. Shadow Burner and All In Dungee have the form on the board and will be very hard to beat with early luck. Couture is very slow early but the small field will help his chances. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 5 - The 3rd of the 600m and this is certainly a wide open affair with three last start winners. Bedrock Fred was a huge run here last start when winning in a fast 34.91, he has the pace to be right in the mix again on that run. Defy never looked like getting beaten over the sprint last week, he has won 7 of 11 over this trip and will be hard to beat again. Fabs You Go and Fantastic Pippa for the minors. Box up 1.2.4.5
Race 6 - Lily Pad has been racing well with 2 wins from her last 5, she has terrific early pace and looks the likely leader in this so we will put her on top. Power Burner and my each-way special Emerley Zero both are chances along with Buddy Guy who is well drawn. Box Up 1.2.4.7
Race 7 - All In Billy was a huge run at his 1st look when 2nd here in 29.81 after striking early trouble, he has handy credentials and will only be improved by the run. Woodside Zulu returned to the winners circle with a win here last run in 29.87, he is a tardy beginner but will be powering late. Add Tsunami Fire as he has early pace for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.3.4.7
Race 8 - Holy Reign has been on the improve, she overcome a tardy start to finish 2nd here by the barest of margins last week ,she looks one of the better chances. Canya Bandido has been racing well over the short at Gawler since transferring from WA, he has to be a chance. Long Gully Barny has pace and can figure in the First Four. Box Up 4.5.6.7
Race 9 - This is the distance affair of the night. Sir Truculent had his colours lowered here last week when unplaced behind Burn Time, both these runners look the ones to beat again and can carve out quick times when left alone early. Springvale Anna and Springvale Shine have been racing well and are place chances once again. Box Up 3.4.6.8
Race 10 - Victa Hayden was very impressive when winning his Maiden here last start in 29.94, he is facing some handy youngster’s here and will need to be on the pace early. Foresaken is well drawn and showed pace to win here in 30.01, add Dark Tides and Tangelo Fire for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.7
Race 11 - Zipping Whoopi was checked from pillar to post and still finished 2nd here at her first look after being well supported, she only need early luck to take a power of beating. Little Genius and Sutton Abbie can figure in the top three. Box Up 1.2.4.5
Race 12 - Sutton Sandy can hopefully send us home on a winning note, she has the pace to lead from box 2 and is one of the better chances. All In Morgan was placed from this draw last week, he gets another chance tonight in an open affair. It's Smudgy has won from this draw in the past. Box up 1.2.5.8

THE EASTAR – MATCH RACE SERIES AT GAWLER – NOMINATIONS CLOSE WEDNESDAY, 31ST MARCH
The local South Australian match race series, nicknamed ‘The Eastar’, has been shifted to Gawler due to the track update of Angle Park.
The series will be held on Easter Sunday night, 4th April over the 531m. A big local crowd is expected for the meeting given the timing of the event and the public holiday the following day.
Greyhounds competing must be South Australian, based on the Nationals Championships conditions, which require greyhounds to be domiciled in the State for at least 76 days of the last 150 days prior to the close of nominations. Selection for this series will be for the fastest greyhounds nominated, based on their best time over the Gawler 531m distance since 1st October 2020 (regardless of their placing). GRSA will regularly update and publish a leaderboard (top 25), so all trainers and connections are aware of where their greyhound stands up until the close of nominations on Wednesday, 31st March 2021.
The head-to-head matches will be decided based on the final leaderboard, with no manual intervention by the Grader, as per the following:
· Match 1 – Seed 1 v Seed 4 (1st $2,750 - 2nd $350)
· Match 2 – Seed 2 v Seed 3 (1st $2,500 - 2nd $350)
· Match 3 – Seed 5 v Seed 8 (1st $2,250 - 2nd $350)
· Match 4 – Seed 6 v Seed 7 (1st $2,000 - 2nd $350)
The prizemoney for the overall Eastar placegetters (based on individual times in the match races) will be:
- 1st $4,500 – 2nd $1,300 – 3rd $650
The overall winner of the Gawler Eastar will be guaranteed a spot in the State of Origin Match race series (SA V Vic) to be held at the newly developed Angle Park track in September, as long as it is nominated and eligible to represent SA. As an added incentive the winner of the State of Origin Match Race Series guarantees itself a spot in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup in October and if successful will be guaranteed a spot in the Group 1 TOPGUN at the Meadows in November.
Current leader board – as at 25th March, 2021

ORDER OF PREFERENCE TRACK CLASSIFICATIONS
As approved from the Grading Review meeting last November the track classifications in the Order of Preference policy will change to be more reflective of the types of meetings and races being conducted when selecting greyhounds.
This will mean that SA track classifications in the Order of Preference policy on the current schedule has been updated to -
a. City = CTA (Angle Park Thursday)
b. Provincial = CTB & PR1 (Angle Park Monday, Gawler Sunday and Murray Bridge Friday)
c. Country = PR2 (Angle Park Tuesday/Saturday, Murray Bridge Straight Track Tuesday, Gawler Wednesday and Mt Gambier Thursday/Sunday)
GRSA and Ozchase have extensively tested the changes and believe they are correct for implementation. Ozchase are planning to implement tomorrow night subject to change with the Angle Park Monday and Murray Bridge Straight Track meetings graded under this Order of Preference.
GRSA is still working on the WPS (Weighted Points System) changes as agreed from November’s meeting which are not too far away.
The Grading Department expect very little changes to the current selection of greyhounds for our meetings by changing the SA track classifications for the Order of Preference policy, however, it will align better with our race meetings. Please contact the Grader for further clarification if required.
GRADING OF CITY A MEETINGS WHEN ANGLE PARK SHUTDOWN –
When Angle Park is redeveloped in mid April the below outcomes have been listed below -
- When Angle Park is shutdown for redevelopment that the City A meetings will be shared with Murray Bridge and Gawler. Murray Bridge will conduct back to back Thursday meetings allowing for Heats and Finals of normal and feature races. Gawler will then run back to back Sundays again allowing for Heats and Finals of normal and feature races. This will mean that there is one Metropolitan (CITY A) meeting per week.
- Feature 515m races will be run at Gawler over the 531m and any 731m feature races will be run at Murray Bridge over the 680m (the 680m start will be available as the 731m boxes will be removed from Angle Park once redevelopment starts allowing for that distance to be available)
- There will be a 680m CITY A prizemoney at Murray Bridge each Thursday every week whether City A or Prov 1 to support these stayers during this period.
- These meetings will be considered as if the greyhounds have never raced at the venue. This will mean greyhounds will be grades Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 to start with unless new into the state and regraded higher.
- With all grades starting from new (no higher than Grade 5 effectively) there will not be as higher prizemoney races per meeting initially with no high grade races being conducted. There will be a Best 8 each meeting over the 455m, 530m, 680m at Murray Bridge and a 531m and 643m at Gawler for this high grade money. (GRSA will just make up these races). Trainers need to write “No Best 8” on the nomination if they do not want to be in this event. If there are insufficient nominations for a Best 8 the Grader will make up normally graded events based on current policy.
- The Racing Department intends to run Grade 5 heats on a regular basis but may have to run Grade 4/5 heats to ensure there are races for these dogs. The finals of these races will pay the normal stakemoney for Finals (Grade 5 or Open depending on grade of Heats).
- The Grader will give preference to 455m or higher at both Murray Bridge City A and Gawler City A meetings with the intent that no short course races will be conducted. However if there was a need to run some short course this would be under “standby conditions.
- When a greyhound wins a Grade 5 or above over any distance at the Gawler City A and Murray Bridge City A meetings they will NOT lose any grade 6’s at other venues. The normal rule has been suspended.
- If a greyhound has already won a Grade 6 (City A) it should be eligible for MB CITY A and GAW CITY A Grade 6 if they have more Grade’s to win as these are considered different tracks. They will still only be able to win one CITY A at each of these meetings if they do not win more races than allowed.
- There will be NO retrospectivity for Grading when the shutdown of Angle Park occurs.
ONLINE SCRATCHINGS NOW AVAILABLE
GRSA will now make scratchings out of drawn race meetings available for trainers through the Ozchase system, effective immediately. This will provide flexibility for trainers during their busy schedules. Trainers can still phone scratching’s through as normal.
Once a scratching has been lodged, GRSA will consider this greyhound as requiring to be removed and will be published as soon as possible or the next working day.
Any Late Scratching’s cannot be made via online and will have to be phoned through to the Stewards.
Please see below for the process of making a scratching via OzChase -
To request that a greyhound is scratched from a race, a trainer can select the ‘Scratch Greyhound’ action.
A greyhound can be selected from the dropdown on the screen. Once selected, the details related to this greyhound (ear brands, certificate number and microchips) will be displayed.
The meeting list presented to the trainer for selection will show those meetings where the selected greyhound has been allocated as a runner or reserve. If the greyhound has multiple starts at the meeting, then all races for this greyhound will be listed against the appropriate meeting entry.
The email notification sent to the Trainer and Grader will list the meeting and race details as shown in the example below:
