TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have another strong 12 event programme ahead of us tonight which includes two 600m events, a distance affair and some quality sprint events. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events. We struggled early in the night here last week but came home with a late surge landing a couple of big winners at double figure odds so let’s hope we can keep on the right side of the ledger again.

Race 1 - The early pace will come from Danyo’s Rosie and Jervois Boy, both will be on the pace early and can figure in the First Four. Coorong Nugget will be running on and is amongst the main dangers. Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and it’s a wide open, we will go with the Gavin Harris trained Springvale Cher, she can be hit and miss on box rise so let’s hope she can get a clear run early and power home. Joe Blake was a nice run here last start and will only improve, add Raging Rocco who has the gun draw.  Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 3 - Ray Fewings has a smart one in Craggy Island, he has a perfect strike rate of 6 from 6 and is making his city debut, he looks the likely leader and is hard to tip against. Dakota Dart was a smart winner here last start in 29.91 and is drawn for a forward showing once again. Invincibility can add a bit of value to the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 4 - This is a top quality sprint affair and Coorong Lucy had her colours lowered here last week after striking early trouble, she can lead tonight and can bounce back. Alfieri will appreciate the small `field and is a class act if left alone early. Hot Sophie has won her last 5 and It’s A Riot is resuming. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 5 - Ashby Mayhem has been in good form at Gawler with 2 strong wins over the 531m, she steps up tonight to the 600m and is our top pick in this. Joint Interest is the value runner and will be doing her best work late. Tammy Parker and Springvale Jorja appear place chances. Box Up 2.6.7.8

Race 6 - Patrick Francis is our Each Way special of the night, he should be able to kick up early from the draw and the Rasmussen kennel is in fine form at the moment. Kennel mate American Man will be charging home and Ask Me Now is very strong and can’t be left out of calculations. Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 7 - The Wally Harkins super star Sir Truculent continued on his winning way when winning by over 13 lengths in a slick 42.88 here last week, he will be short again and should win again. Miss Bellawood has her fair share of ability and looks a Trifecta chance once again along with No Surrender who continues to track wide in his races. Box Up 2.3.6.7

Race 8 - This certainly is a good race to have a crack at with our First Four as it’s a wide open affair, we need Fly For Fun to muster speed early so he can cross from his wide draw, he is a more than handy type and is amongst the main chances. Winlock Huddy will be running on late and is drawn to run a cheeky race, also add Lenny The Jet who is always a chance from a rails draw. Box Up 1.3.7.8

Race 9 - Its very hard to go past Fabs You Go on his impressive win here last week in a slick BON 29.63, he will take beating on that effort. Long Gully Wilma is never far away and won from this draw 4 runs back. Cawbourne Zebra and Leaving for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 10 - Little Earner can bounce back tonight, she was trapped wide here last week when drawn out in box 8, with moderate beginners on either side she is our top pick. Defy is making his city debut, his interstate form is mixed but he shows plenty of ability when left alone. Mepunga Lock and our value runner for the First Four, Tyson’s Choice. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 11  - With only the five runners Two Times Twice should lead and win again from box 8, he returned to the winners circle last week with a smart 35.12 win and is our top pick. Holy Reign has the draw to improve and we can’t leave out West On Bamboo for the minors. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 12 - Springvale Shine should be at each way odds and can send us home on a winning note, she has been racing well in recent weeks and can handle a wide draw. Ainsley Flash has early pace and from the rails draw will be right in the mix. Velocity Bottino is new to the Murray kennel and should be included. Box Up 1.4.7.8

UPDATED BOXING PROCEDURES

Following COVID-19, all greyhound States nationally amended their boxing procedure to 4 waves of 2 dogs.

GRSA reviewed the procedure and is now boxing in 3 waves:

3 – 6

For G-SIX it will be in 2 waves.

This was implemented at all tracks last week. We are continuing to work with Government on a plan to returning to a regular boxing procedure.

MT GAMBIER STAKEMONEY INCREASE

Due to the Victorian Border closure, the opportunity for Mt Gambier to have a viable racing option has been dramatically compromised.

Further to discussions at the recent Members of Company meeting, GRSA and the Clubs expressed support for Mt Gambier returning to normal category 3 levels immediately. GRSA and the Clubs both believe that Mt Gambier needed additional support to remain viable in this difficult time.

Discussions are occurring in the background about stakemoney levels and staff remuneration returning to normal levels in the weeks ahead.

REMOTE TRAINERS FEE TO ASSIST MT GAMBIER MEETING

With continuing border restrictions affecting participation in the South East due to COVID-19, GRSA has decided to support the Mt Gambier Thursday meeting knowing the importance to be racing on a weekly basis during this time.

For those trainers that live more than 150 kilometres from Mt Gambier and travel to this meeting they will receive an additional $75 payment to their normal Trainers Fee. The fee will be capped at one payment per registered premises and will continue until the borders are open. This has taken effect from the Clubs meeting held on Thursday, 18th June 2020.
