TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The Final of the 2020 SA Champion Puppy Final is the high light of tonight’s racing here at headquarters, race 8 on the programme. Troy Murray and Nathan Wilson have 5 runners between them and hold a strong hand in the outcome. We also have a 600m and 731m during the evening that makes for another quality night of racing. All races are Trifecta and First Fours (GOOD LUCK)

Race 1 - Trainer Mike Wittholz can kick start the night for us with All Out Crazy, he has been racing well here of late with two quick wins, the wide draw suits and with his early pace should go close again. Yarindale found a heap of trouble last start and is the improver along with Quinnish. Box Up all the evens 2.4.6.8

Race 2 - I like one in this at good odds, Springvale Cher, she can be a very tardy on box rise but with luck might be close enough into the back to have a crack at them. Hali’s Girl is a pacey type and is a must for our Trifecta, add Spofforth and the newcomer Coorong Dasher. Box Up 1.3.5.8

Race 3 - This is the distance affair of the night and Miss Bellawood is the likely leader, she has been in terrific form of late and was run down here last week in 43.44. No Surrender charged late here from midfield to score last week, he has been racing well and is suited by the small field, he is a big chance again and is my top pick. Box up 1.4.6.8

Race 4 - The Troy Murray kennel is a chance of having a big night and they have a strong chance with Velocity Bottino in this, she won at Gawler last start and has the early pace to kick up early from her rails draw to be amongst the likely leaders. Cripps Dusty wins are far and few between, she is a must for our Trifecta and will be running on late. Skylar Jen is another who is a chance in a very open affair. Box up 2.4.6.8

Race 5 - Loading Zone has been racing well since crossing the border over the short at Murray Bridge, he has won 10 from 24 along with 10 placings and boxed for a bold showing for his city debut. Sprite Monelli has struggled in his recent runs, he is capable of a sharp improvement and can’t be overlooked. Allinga Jess and I’m Top Girl for the minors. Box Up 1.5.6.8

Race 6 - Golden Night won on debut at Gawler over the short for the Murray team, the ex-Victorian had been racing well prior and looks primed to win here on debut. Winlock Huddy is very strong and will be doing his best work late. Hot Zorro has won 3 of his past 4 and is the value runner. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 7 - The book ends are the big chances in this as they are both racing well. Silent Jacko has been in the money at his last 5 starts and is drawn for another bold showing, he is a must for our Trifecta. Shadow Mist loves this venue and with 4 wins from just 5 outings here is our top pick, Lauren Harris has him in terrific form and he looks very hard to beat once again, Long Gully Barny and Lektra Theory for our value for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 8 - This is the final of the SA 2020 Champion Puppy Feature and as mentioned earlier two trainers have over half the field. Major Major is the most experienced runner and jumped straight to the front here last week and carved out a personal best of 29.66, he looks primed for this and is our top pick. Hank The Hustler cruised home to win in a very smart 29.79, he can be hit and miss on lid rise but certainly has a huge future ahead of him. Coorong Nugget is a strong type as is Oakvale Style, the final has turned out to be a terrific event and good luck to all concerned. Box Up 4.5.6.7

Race 9 - There looks to be several chances in this and as it’s over the 600m, we will go with Ashby Mayhem who is a big chance of leading from her draw and looks amongst the main chances. West On Bamboo is the veteran of the field, she will appreciate the drop in grade and will be right in the finish, she loves this trip and is our roughie of the night. Long Gully Evie and Sweet Rose for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 10 - Lets hope we are well in front as we are picking a couple of roughies to go home on, Invincibility has been placed here in recent runs, she has the pace to lead and might be able to pinch this with early luck. Jabari has handy Gawler form, he is another who will be there late in a tough affair. Right Exit is very consistent and is close to breaking through. Box Up 1.6.7.8

Race 11 - I’m sure we can all go home on a winner with Fantastic Pippa, she proved far to strong here last week when winning in 30.23 from box 8, she can go a lot quicker than that and is boxed to win again. Hot Spartan and Tammy Parker for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.3.5.8

GRADING REVIEW PANEL MAIN OUTCOMES FROM MEETING

MASTERS EVENTS (GRADE 5 AND MIXED) -  For City A, City B and Prov 1 Masters events the greyhounds 4yo and older will be selected on form with the greyhounds between 4 and 3 ¾ still on age. For Masters events conducted at Prov 2 meetings ALL greyhounds will be selected on age.

For the main Masters races which we normally run at the Angle Park Monday and Gawler Friday meetings, these will be on form for 4yo and older and for Gawler Tuesday and Angle Park Wednesday meetings it will be on age.  All other conditions still remain like time standards etc.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

MAIDENS - if there are not 6 or more Maidens nominated, then the race should not be conducted unless specifically needed to make up a program.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

HEATS TO FINALS - Where there are insufficient nominations to run Heats of an advertised event (less than 10 nominations normal events, middle distance and staying events), the event will be conducted as a one-off Final on the date when the Heats were scheduled. If the event is considered a feature event like the Stayers Cup for example or a memorial race, the one-off Final will be conducted on the date of the original Final and a normal graded event conducted at the Heat meeting.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

****This has been actioned with tomorrows Maiden 400m series at Gawler altered to a Final and Monday nights Juvenile series at Angle Park also altered to a Final.****

TIME GRADING

All Time Grading for all clubs in SA to be uniform with groupings (Maiden/1-4 wins/5+ wins).

For Time Grading events when there are two or more races, then the lowest rating time dogs (the fastest dogs for this grouping) are declared the reserves.

If a greyhound is a reserve for a Time Grading event and does not gain a start then they will automatically get a start in the next Time Graded meeting (no matter the track) so long as they are nominated.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

INDUSTRY CONSULTATIVE GROUP MEETING ON FRIDAY 7TH AUGUST

The next ICG meeting will be held on Friday, 7th August.

An Agenda is currently being produced and will be available for the panel members prior to the meeting.

REMOTE TRAINERS FEE TO ASSIST MOUNT GAMBIER MEETING

With continuing border restrictions affecting participation in the South East due to COVID-19, GRSA have decided to support the Mount Gambier meeting knowing the importance to be racing on a weekly basis during this time.

For those Trainers that live more than 150 kilometres from Mount Gambier and travel to this meeting they will receive an additional $75 payment to their normal Trainers Fee. The fee will be capped at one payment per registered premises and will continue until the borders are open.

2020 SA DISTANCE AND SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS IN AUGUST

The National Championships have been cancelled this year due to COVID-19.

They were to be held at Wentworth Park in NSW and will now be held in 2021. SA and other States will still run their local series to establish the State’s best sprinter and stayer.

The $5,120 SA Heats of the Sprint will be run on Thursday, 6th August and the $8,580 Final on Thursday, 13th August.

The Distance will be conducted as a one off Best 8 on Thursday, 13th August worth $9,330. GRSA will provide a lead up race depending on numbers for the stayers as required.

A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the nomination closing date to be eligible to represent SA, which going back is on Wednesday, 20th May 2020. If unsure of a greyhounds status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.

Sky Racing will also support this series with ALL States conducting their Finals on the same night to be run within a 2 hour period. It makes for a great promotional concept.

*Nominations for the Heats of the Sprint close on Monday, 3rd August with GRSA at 9.00am.*

(Whilst the nominations for the Distance will close on 10th August the domiciliary conditions will be the same as the Sprint)

2020 MOUNT GAMBIER CARNIVAL TO BE RUN IN AUGUST

The Mount Gambier Cup Carnival has been rescheduled to August, highlighted by the 2020 Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup Final to be run on Sunday 30th August.

The Cup is a Group Listed event and will carry $14,275 in total prizemoney ($10,000 to the winner).

The Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup heats will be held on Sunday 23rd August and are open to the best 64 greyhounds nominated (plus reserves). On the same program, the Club will conduct heats of The Produce Store Feature Maiden over 512m.

To support the Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup Final, the event will feature a Consolation Final for greyhounds that competed in the heats (trainers will need to renominate for this event). Other races on the program will include The Produce Store Maiden Final, a Formula 400 Open Feature over 400m and The Tankman 600 Open Feature over 600m.

Nominations for the heats close with GRSA at 9.00am on Tuesday 18th August

Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA), in consultation with the Mt Gambier Greyhound Racing Club, felt it was important to ensure the Cup Carnival was held following its postponement in March due to COVID-19 pandemic. With recent Government announcements confirming longer term restrictions for Victorians entering South Australia, GRSA believed it was the right time to provide clarity and certainty to local participants regarding the 2020 Cup Carnival.

Whilst we had hoped our valued interstate trainers could attend the Carnival, GRSA will only accept nominations from locally trained greyhounds. For clarity, this does not prevent an interstate greyhound being transferred into an SA kennel to target specific feature races.
