 ANGLE PARK PREVIEW - 21st January 2021

TELLING THE TAIL

By The Shadow

We have a strong 11 event programme ahead of us tonight here at headquarters with the high light being the final of the John Gray over the sprint for grade 5 performers (race 8), it certainly appears a wide-open affair on paper and good luck to all connections. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We will kick start the night with Victa Grosso in the Rasmussen kennel, he has only had the two starts both in Victoria and looks well placed for his SA debut. Fire Strike was a good run here last week when 2nd and will only be improved by the run. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 2 - Rugged And Ready found a heap of trouble here last start, he handles a wide draw and gets his chance tonight. Sutton Daisy has been hit and miss on lid rise of late, if she is able to lead she would prove hard to beat. Add Hali’s Girl who could hunt up from the rails draw and run a cheeky race. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 3 - This is the 600m of the night and we will go with Helen's Teddy down in box two, she was a huge run over the sprint here last start when 2nd behind Yarindale, the extra distance will be a bonus and she should be at each way odds. Barbados Express has won her past two over this trip and is drawn for a bold showing again. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - Coorong Lucy has returned in terrific fashion, she led throughout last week winning the SA Sprint final by 3.50L in a slick 29.52, she is very hard to tip against. Shadow Mist improved when 2nd in last weeks final, he is a class act when on song and can’t be overlooked. Rushes and Jacks Well for the First Four. Box up 1.4.5.8

Race 5 - There looks to be several chances here so we will go with the well-drawn Bedrock Fred down in box 1, he has been racing well and has been in the money at his five runs at this venue. Gemtree Maximus was impressive winning on debut in 30.03, looks to have a handy future and is a must for our Trifecta. Victa Saige is still learning and the draw brings her right into the mix. Box up 1.2.5.6

Race 6 -  I like the inside four here with Major Havoc our top selection, he will find this more to his liking and was placed behind Coorong Lucy last start and will be charging home. Threaten can be hit and miss but his recent form is more than handy. Power Stone and the pacey Like A Librarian for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 7 - Veteran trainer Richard Pearce puts the polish on Ned’s Chance, he was a last start winner at Gawler in a BOD 30.61 charging home to score over Threaten, he is racing well at looks amongst the main chances. Master Chaos is capable of surprising on his night as is My Boy Bean at huge odds. Box Up 1.3.5.7

Race 8 - This is the Final of the John Gray and Ben Rawlings has a big chance with the inform Diorite Fire, he led them a merry dance here last week from box 8 to win in 29.94, he can be tardy early which is his down fall but should settle forward from the draw and be hard to beat. Zipping Sullivan had plenty of support at his debut when winning in 30.14, he will only improve and is the danger. Classic McLaren and Lily Pad for the minors. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 9 - Heckle Me has handy Murray Bridge form, he has won his past two there leading throughout and if he brings that form to town will be the one to beat. Rock It Fabio is yet to win at this venue, he will be right in the finish and is well drawn. Full Flight has only had the two runs since crossing the border he must be kept safe. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 10 - This is the distance affair of the night and Miss Bellawood looks extremely hard to toss in this, she should lead and run them off their paws early. Raylene Bale is in form and can run into the placings along with Joe's Gold who has handy 600m form. Box up 2.4.7.8

Race 11 - American Man is very strong and should go close from the draw. Another Storm also looks a top hope and with Just Madge. Box Up 1.2.5.8

G-SIX IN RACE NAMES

GRSA over the past few years have been highlighting the G-SIX races in the race names, however, this can have an effect on sponsors names, heat and final titles in the race book and on the website being cut off.

MOUNT GAMBIER TO RACE TWICE A WEEK FROM JANUARY

With Victorian trainers now eligible to nominate for Mount Gambier this will allow the resumption of two weekly race meetings per week at Mount Gambier, with both Thursday and Sunday meetings being included in the Sky schedule this month.

The Thursday meetings will be Time Graded events (Maidens, 1-4 wins and 5+ wins) with only 400m plus events programmed and the Sunday meetings will be the normal graded meetings with the new 305m distance included under specific conditions.

With the resumption of two weekly meetings from the beginning of January 2021, GRSA has reverted the prizemoney levels at Mount Gambier back to the current Category 3 levels with a movement back to G-SIX across both meetings where possible.

305M START AT MOUNT GAMBIER FROM 24TH JANUARY

The 305m start will come into effect at Mount Gambier this Sunday, 24th January. The Club has programmed Maiden Heats over 305m sponsored by Razza Racing, open to all Maiden greyhounds of any age. They will then progress to the Final on Sunday, 31st January with the Club appreciative of the sponsorship.

The Club will then revert back to normal conditions that they had for the 277m for the 305m with -

Only two 305m races on Sundays, one for young Maiden greyhounds with the youngest greyhounds gaining entry first based on age. There will also be a Masters 305m with eligible greyhounds being selected on age with the oldest given first preference. Masters conditions is the same as races conducted in the Metro area with greyhounds 3¾ years and above eligible. (Masters can start on 31st January if sufficient nominations)

GRSA and the Mount Gambier GRC strongly recommend trainers nominate for multiple distances to ensure they do not miss out on a run at any meeting.

It is anticipated the 732m start will be available from 11th February.

Any changes to this schedule will be communicated to the industry via the normal channels.

SOME ITEMS FROM GRP

The items below come from the recent Grading Review Panel meeting with an implementation date advised.

There are other items from the meeting that are currently in the process of being changed and an implementation date will then be determined.

Mixed Masters – Grading

It was recommended to the panel that if a Mixed Masters is programmed the Grade 5 dogs will be mixed if there is Grade 4 and Grade 3 dogs linking together like normal grading. If there are Grade 2 and 3 dogs and then Grade 5 dogs only a Grade 5 Masters will be conducted under normal conditions as these cannot be linked. If there is enough to run a high grade Mixed Masters (ie Grade 2/3 & 4) we will do that and not include Grade 5 unless they nominate specifically for this programmed event. Effective immediately

Policy Interstate Greyhounds - Summary of change’s for the greyhounds career

Interstate greyhounds racing in SA for the first time will be Grade 5 at all tracks and distances, unless they meet the following criteria, which would then see them, being upgraded to Grade 4 at all tracks and distances:

  • 5+ metropolitan full stakes wins
  • $75,000 in prizemoney

Interstate greyhounds racing in SA for the first time and meet the following criteria, will be upgraded to Grade 3 at all tracks and distances:

  • Group 1 & 2 winners over a similar distance in the past 6 months

The grader has ultimate discretion in applying the above upgrade rule, and may choose to keep a greyhound at Grade 5 level if one or more of the following apply:

  • The form of the greyhound is poor enough to warrant it remaining at Grade 5
  • The greyhound is a masters greyhound (4yo+)
  • The distance the greyhound is nominating for is outside the greyhound’s normal distance range

Greyhounds that have left SA to race interstate to race for 3 months or more, will be subject to the above upgrade rules upon their return. However any grade that was established at a particular track and distance prior to their departure from SA will be retained in the last 6 months.

This will replace the greyhounds winning a Metro Grade policy for assessment in SA.

This will not affect the Grade 6 policy and the SA Ownership Proof of purchase policy.
