Angle Park Preview - 20th February 2020
by The Shadow
The Final of the SA St Leger is race 8 on the programme tonight and the field is all class, with a lot of early speed in this event the charge to the first turn will hold the key to who collects the winner’s cheque of just under the $8,000. Other highlights of the night are 2 heats over the 600m and a distance event later in the night. All 11 races are Trifecta and First Four events.
Race 1 - We can kick the night of with an early winner in Major Major for the Troy Murray kennel, he made ground here last start when 2nd behind Irapsag Miss in handy time and should prove hard to beat from the rails draw. Tyson’s Choice is my roughie in this and is worth putting in the First Four. Box Up 1.3.4.7
Race 2 - This is wide open and I like the newcomer in Cawbourne Get Up in the Rasmussen kennel, he has won 10 of 49 along with 14 placings and won at Geelong last month in 22.65 over the 400m. Lenny The Jet is drawn for a bold showing and Instantaneous is more than capable with luck. Box Up 1.3.4.7
Race 3 - The 1st of the 600m heats and I like one in this at each way odds in Worth A Shout, he flew late last start over the sprint after being severely checked so the extra distance should suit. Lose Your Blues is working towards a win and we can’t leave out the inform Emerley Judge. Box Up 3.5.6.8.
Race 4 - Tough event this one so we will go with Szubanski Fury down in box 1 for the second heat, she won over the sprint here last start and with her early pace should be in the leading group early. Vontae Mack is a very slow beginner, he should be doing his best work late. Gemma Nismo is better than her form suggests and is a definite chance with early luck. Box Up 1.3.4.8
Race 5 - The Mixed 3/4/5 600m and its hard to go past Two Times Twice, he has won 4 of 5 at this trip and for me appears the likely leader. Miss Takiri is another with a good record here and should be improved by her outing here last week. Box Up 1.3.6.7
Race 6 - Soda Crash has continued to improve and carved out a slashing 29.66 here last start, he is well drawn and looks the measuring stick in this. Viking Vince led throughout from this draw last start, although up in grade here still is a place chance. Add Spring Cuervo and Eedee Keepsake for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.5
Race 7 - Spring Fair couldn’t run down Soda Crash here last start when 2.50L 2nd, she was a winner here prior in 29.69 and should get a clear run with pace on her inside. Boss Three Fifty blew the start here last start, he needs to be on the pace early to be a threat. Box Up 2.3.4.5
Race 8 - This is the Final of the 2020 SA St Leger and we will go with Coorong Lucy who continues to win, she has won 14 of 21 here and looks the goods once again. Boss McLaren never looked like getting beat when winning by over 6L in a slick 29.66, he is a smart sprinter and is the BIG danger. Add Spring Vinnie who is another with terrific form for the minors, this final carries nearly $8,000 to the winner. Box Up the inside four. 1.2.3.4
Race 9 - My Boy Bean never looked in doubt here last week when winning in a handy 43.16 by over 5L, he is well drawn again tonight and should take beating. Wooden Tiger could be the surprise packet, he has been very tardy away of late over the sprint, and he is all class when on the lure and must be kept safe. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 10 - The Cameron Butcher kennel normally go home with a winner or 2, they have a big chance with Established in this as she has been in terrific form of late, her early dash makes her our top selection. Dyna Adria loves this draw and is very close to a win, add Minnie Mac for our value. Box Up 1.3.6.7
Race 11 - I like one at good each way value to go home on in Legendary Lao, he won from this draw 2 starts back in 29.86 here in very good fashion, this is a wide open affair so he is a big chance. Wild Looking along with Collecting can run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.3.7

LAUNCHING PAD SA SERIES BEGINS ON 5TH MARCH
Again this year the Sandown GRC offered sweepstakes tickets into the rich Launching Pad Series.
There are special conditions on the race, being for greyhounds that have won between 1 and 6 races and have not had more than 30 starts at close of their nominations.
The Heats will be run at Sandown over the 515m on Thursday, 26th March with the Semi-Finals on Thursday, 2nd April and the $150,000 to the winner Final run on Thursday, 9th April. Greyhound Racing SA was able to secure a ticket and will give one greyhound the opportunity to compete in this lucrative series. We will run a Heat and Final series to determine who will make the Launching Pad Heats on 26th March.
Our Heats will be run on Thursday, 5th March over the 515m at Angle Park for greyhounds that have won 1-4 races and no more than 28 starts. The Heats will be worth $3,855 and will be Non Penalty events. The Final will be run at Angle Park on Thursday, 12th March over the 515m with prizemoney of $5,545 and will also be Non Penalty.
The winner of the Final will take their spot in the Launching Pad Heats two weeks later, however, if the winner for whatever reason cannot take their spot then the next qualified greyhound will be given that spot.
GRSA has restricted the series to 1-4 wins and 28 starts incase a greyhound wins both the heat and final so this will still keep them eligible. We have also made our Final two weeks before the Launching Pad Heats at Sandown to give the trainer an opportunity to get across the border and trial for the big race.
• Nominations close with GRSA for the SA Heats at 9am on Monday, 2nd March.

MURRAY BRIDGE TRIAL CHANGES IN MARCH
In March due to the speedway being conducted on Sundays at Murray Bridge on two occasions we will have two Fridays at Murray Bridge during the month and two Sundays at Gawler. These dates will be Friday 6th and 27th March for Murray Bridge and Sunday night for Gawler on 8th and 29th March. With this being the case the trial days will be swapped with Gawler trialling on Friday 6th and 27th and Murray Bridge trialling on Thursday 5th and 26th March.
GRSA also advise that from March there will no longer be officiating staff available to clear greyhounds for Satisfactory trials and Qualifying Qualy trials on the fortnightly Tuesday nights at Murray Bridge.
GRSA will send an official to Murray Bridge on a monthly basis on a Friday morning trial session, which has both tracks trialling. This presents an opportunity to also include the Straight Track for Qualifying and Satisfactory Trials. The trial session for March will be Friday, 20th March.
ACCELL THERAPY MAT MOVED INTO VET CLINIC
Management has moved the Accell Therapy mat into the Vet Clinic to provide a greater opportunity for it to be used. It is recommended that a greyhound derives benefit with a 15 to 20 minute session and is generally for recovery from racing or injury. Please do not hesitate to ask when next in the Vet Clinic at GRSA.
ICG MEETING – FRIDAY MARCH 20
The next Industry Consultative Group meeting will be held at GRSA on Friday 20th March. An Agenda will be sent out to the panel in the coming weeks for discussion at the meeting.
