Angle Park Preview - 20th August 2020
by The Shadow
Tonight’s 11 event programme we have a good mixture of racing over all three distances, Sir Truculent fronts up in the Distance affair ( race 3 ), he certainly is in outstanding form and will be at very skinny odds, he just wins again. We see the return of Wooden Tiger later in the night and Alfieri, which has been freshened and returns in (race 9). All three are amongst my selections for tonight, I hope you followed last week as we had a very nice night on the punt including an 11/1 winner. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.
Race 1 - We will stick with Dakota Roxy, she has been missing the kick of late and is a lot better than recent form suggests, the wide draw should enhance her chances so we will put her on top. Blue Ash has been racing well at big odds, she is well drawn and is worth putting in our top three. Sweet Waterloo and Tarra Rocket for the First Four. Box Up 2.5.7.8
Race 2 - Jack’s Well ran on strongly to score here last week in 30.19, from this draw he looks to be a handy youngster. I like one in this at good each way odds in Adios McLaren, he will find this a lot easier than his past couple and is a chance of surprising. Two Hands George for our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.8
Race 3 - This is the distance affair and Sir Truculent was ultra-impressive when winning the National Distance SA Final here last week in a sensational 42.70, he has now won over $100,000 in prizemoney and will only add to that again tonight. Miss Bellawood and Five Thirty for the minors. 7 from 1.3.5
Race 4 - Defy again proved how smart he is when winning here last week over this trip in a very smart 34.80 from box 6, he should lead and win again. Toora Ziggy is the only danger he won here two runs back in good time and can finish in the placings once again. Springvale Arge and Major Havoc for the First Four. 8 from 1.2.5
Race 5 - This is a wide open affair and I like one in this at each way odds in Lenny The Jet, he has been missing the start of late but when on song he is very smart. Black Kruger has won his last 4 and makes his City debut tonight, he is a must for our Trifecta. Hot Spartan is knocking on the door on his recent efforts and Instantaneous has been racing well over the short at Murray Bridge. Box Up 1.2.5.7
Race 6 - Querencia gets his chance to return to the winners circle, he had been racing well prior to his last start and is a flying machine when on the lure. American Man is a strong type and will be running on. Winlock Huddy is better than recent form suggests. Box Up 2.5.7.8
Race 7 - Wooden Tiger is resuming tonight, he hasn’t raced since late June and was in smart form prior, he fronts up over the sprint here and is drawn for a bold showing 1st up. Bold Mirage is a pacey type who has won 5 from his 9 starts he ran 2nd here last week and will only be improved by the run. Box Up 1.2.5.8
Race 8 - The two main chances here look to be Fly For Fun and Velocity Bottino both look well suited in this grade with Fly For Fun being our 1st selection. Springvale Vixen will be rattling home and is a must for our Trifecta. Cleverman has handy short course form and is making his city debut. Box Up 4.5.7.8
Race 9 - Alfieri resumes tonight after a six weeks spell, he has had a long time between drinks and is capable of carving out quick times on his night, he has drawn well and is sure to go close. Blister has been runner up behind the very smart Shadow Mist in recent runs, he has a good turn of early pace and will be right in the finish and is ready to break through. Add Fantastic Pippa for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.6
Race 10 - Tricky event this one so let’s hope we are well in front by now, we will go with the newcomer Another Storm, his recent NSW form at Bulli is handy over the short, he steps up to the 515m here and is drawn to have every chance. Snakebite Me has won his last 4 at Murray Bridge, he has pace drawn underneath him and will need to fly the lids to lead. Allinga Ollie & Springvale Ortiz for the First Four. Box Up 1.2,7.8
Race 11 - Justice For All led them a merry dance here last time when leading throughout for a 30.05 win over Chevy Chaser, he looks a handy type who can go close again. Yarindale drops back to the sprint tonight, he is very strong at this trip and is the big danger. Threaten has broken 30 here in the past and can’t be overlooked. Box up 2.5.7.8

LOCAL NEWS
GAWLER THIS FRIDAY NIGHT
Gawler will race this Friday night due to a swap with Greyhound Racing Victoria, with the current COVID situation in Victoria and their curfew restrictions GRSA reached out to them to see how we could assist.
GRV took the offer of swapping our Friday Twilight meeting with their Night meeting for this week to assist their scheduling which they appreciated and so did we. It does apprear they have managed future meetings so tomorrow night’s meeting is probably a one off however our offer is still with them to see if we can assist.
The first race tomorrow night starts at 6.22pm and the last of 10 will be at 9.25pm.
ANGLE PARK TO RACE SATURDAY MONRING EACH FORTNIGHT
GRSA will race each fortnight at Angle Park on Saturday morning starting this Saturday.
The first race will be 8.27am and the last of 10 will be at 10.58am.
2020 HEATS BOURNE KENNELS MOUNT GAMBIER
Five Heats of the Bourne Kennels Listed Mount Gambier Cup Heats will be held, Sunday 23rd August, with some of the most exciting chasers contesting this time honoured event.
The likes of Rajasthan, Holy Reign, Silent Jacko, Almighty Stripe, Sunset Milo, Call Me Billy, Galactic Athena, Cawbourne Terry and Volcanic Lava will all do battle throughout the day. With 5 Heats the winners and three fastest second placegetters will all qualify for the $14,275 Final ($10,000 to the winner) on Sunday, 30th August. The box draw for the Final will be conducted oncourse on Sunday shortly after the final Heat has been conducted. To support the Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup Final, there will be a Consolation for greyhounds that competed in the Heats (trainers will need to renominate for this event). On Sunday there will be two Heats of the Formula 400 Open Feature over 400m with the Final also run on Cup Final day, Sunday 30th August.
With only 8 nominations for the Maiden event over 512m, The Produce Store Feature Maiden will also be conducted on Cup Final day with fresh nominations.
As part of the linking between the Murray Bridge Cup series and Mount Gambier Cup series, GRSA had provided a bonus if the same trainer could win both series and also if the same greyhound could win both. Whilst the Murray Bridge Cup was run in March and won by the Tony Rasmussen trained Hot Sophie, GRSA will still honour these bonuses with Tony chasing $5,000 if one of the greyhounds he trains can with the Mount Gambier Cup.
SCRATCHING TIMES FOR MT GAMBIER THIS SUNDAY AT 3PM ON FRIDAY
Please note the scratching’s for the Mt Gambier meeting this Sunday will close at 3pm on Friday.
This is due to resourcing so the scratching’s can be made in office.
REMOTE TRAINERS FEE TO ASSIST MOUNT GAMBIER MEETING
With continuing border restrictions affecting participation in the South East due to COVID-19, GRSA have decided to support the Mount Gambier meetings knowing the importance to be racing on a weekly basis during this time.
For those trainers that live more than 150 kilometres from Mount Gambier and travel to these meetings they will receive an additional $75 payment to their normal Trainers Fee. The fee will be capped at one payment per registered premises and will continue until the borders are open.
KINGS AND QUEENS FEATURE HEATS LATER THIS MONTH
Again this year GRSA will conduct the Kings and Queens Feature series with Heats on Thursday, 27th August and a $6,430 Final on Thursday, 3rd September in continued support of any greyhound affected by the change to the GCA Age Restricted Classics change a few years ago.
The eligibility for this series is for dogs and bitches whelped between 1st March 2018 and 31st May 2018.
Performed Maidens are eligible (raced or qualy trialled).
It will be dependent upon nominations, however, we would like to run a dogs Heat and a bitches Heat separately with greyhounds qualifying into the Final. If there are not sufficient nominations for either sex then these Heats may be mixed into a couple of mixed Heats. Special conditions apply, however, these races will be non-penalty.
• Nominations close Monday, 24th August at 9.00am with GRSA
GAWLER CLASSIC 2020 (SHORT COURSE) IN LATE AUGUST
The Heats of the 2020 Gawler Classic (Short Course – 400m) will be run on Friday, 28th August. These Heats are for SA Bred greyhounds which have been paid up for Classic 2020. The $3,000 Final will be run on Friday, 4th September.
• Nominations for the Heats close at 9am on Tuesday, 25th August.
GRSA PLAN TO DISSEMINATE SCRATCHINGS IN A MORE TIMELY MANNER
Historically, it has been GRSA’s standard practice to wait until after the appointed scratching time to officially release all the scratchings.
GRSA would not release any scratchings for a meeting until this time. However, in the current climate with many wagering organisations wanting to open markets early on our races, they are not able to do so due to greyhounds potentially being scratched for injury, illness, ineligibility etc. This can affect potential revenue back to the industry with persons not able to invest, or investing and having the market alter when scratchings are finalised. This will also provide greater transparency for trainers, staff and our business.
For a trial period of 3 months it will be GRSA’s intention upon receiving a scratching from a trainer to input this into OzChase at that time, which will then be made public through the GRSA website. Once the greyhound has been scratched by the trainer and made public it is considered as being withdrawn. This is not uncommon practice with other States doing the same thing. For greyhounds that become ineligible for a race meeting due to winning a Maiden event, racing on consecutive days, offending during the run or being injured on the night etc and engaged in another race meeting, GRSA staff will automatically scratch the greyhound (as it is ineligible) at either the completion of the meeting when finalised by the stewards or the next working day. We have always encouraged trainers to scratch these greyhounds that have become ineligible for their next engagements, however, this is not always the case with staff waiting to withdraw them at the appointed time. For trainers in certain circumstances that may wish to appeal an offence with their greyhound engaged in another event then they would be required to flag that intent with the stewards on the day.
The benefits of this change will provide -
- Transparency across our meetings
- Correct information in real time
- Wagering companies can field up to date markets
- Allows punters to wager with confidence
- Allows for wagering dollars not to be tied up until after the ‘All Clear ‘of a race if a selection was scratched
This will take effect from Monday, 24th August 2020.
MURRAY BRIDGE SLIPPING TRACK NOW AVAILABLE
The Murray Bridge slipping track can now be used; those participants that registered their interest can pick up their key fobs from GRSA reception.
Darren at the Murray Bridge Club also has fobs available so please register so you can make use of this facility.
GRADING REVIEW PANEL MAIN OUTCOMES FROM MEETING
MASTERS EVENTS (GRADE 5 AND MIXED) - For City A, City B and Prov 1 Masters events the greyhounds 4yo and older will be selected on form with the greyhounds between 4 and 3 ¾ still on age. For Masters events conducted at Prov 2 meetings ALL greyhounds will be selected on age.
For the main Masters races which we normally run at the Angle Park Monday and Gawler Friday meetings, these will be on form for 4yo and older and for Gawler Tuesday and Angle Park Wednesday meetings it will be on age. All other conditions still remain like time standards etc.
Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.
MAIDENS - if there are not 6 or more Maidens nominated, then the race should not be conducted unless specifically needed to make up a program.
Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.
HEATS TO FINALS - Where there are insufficient nominations to run Heats of an advertised event (less than 10 nominations normal events, middle distance and staying events), the event will be conducted as a one-off Final on the date when the Heats were scheduled. If the event is considered a feature event like the Stayers Cup for example or a memorial race, the one-off Final will be conducted on the date of the original Final and a normal graded event conducted at the Heat meeting.
Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.
TIME GRADING –
All Time Grading for all clubs in SA to be uniform with groupings (Maiden/1-4 wins/5+ wins).
For Time Grading events when there are two or more races, then the lowest rating time dogs (the fastest dogs for this grouping) are declared the reserves.
If a greyhound is a reserve for a Time Grading event and does not gain a start then they will automatically get a start in the next Time Graded meeting (no matter the track) so long as they are nominated.
Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.
