TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

What a night of racing we have tonight here at headquarters, 7 heats of the 2020 TAB Adelaide Cup with all winners making it through to the Cup Final next Friday 9th October, the heats are races (2-8) on tonight’s 12 event programme. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We kick off the night with a 600m and the Rob Harnas trained Mercedes Monelli is well drawn down in box 1, she proved far too strong here last week when winning in 35.27 and has the pace to lead again. Dashing Mickey is the Big DANGER, she carved out a smart 35.17 and is boxed for a bold showing, add Cripps Dusty for the minors. Box Up 1.2.8.9

Race 2 - The first of our 7 heats and Zipping Zarbo has been racing in terrific form over the border with two slick wins at Horsham, she has a good turn of early pace and looks very hard to beat again. Aston Silk can’t be taken likely, she has won 8 from 28 along with 13 placings, she was placed at Sale last start and comes into calculations from the rails draw. Add Wooden Tiger and Slick Riot for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 3 - Golden Night was very impressive in the Match Race series here last week and it was only a nose that separated him and Catch The Thief carving out a fast 29.58, he has been in terrific form and will be hard to beat. It’s A Riot is resuming and was knocking on the door prior to his short spell. American Man will be running on as will Zipping Ted. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 4 - The Troy Murray kennel could have a big night and it’s hard to go past Major Major who has won his past 5 including the 2020 SA Derby two runs back, he is very strong and looks the measuring stick. Love And Thunder is our value runner, she won here in 29.79 and is more than capable of surprising. Box Up 1.3.4.7

Race 5 - This is the fourth of the Adelaide Cup heats and it looks a wide open affair, I like one in this at value in Danyo’s Charlie, he has been racing in good form over the short at Murray Bridge and was a last start winner here over the 388m in slick time, he might be able to jump to the front and pinch this with a bit of luck. Mepunga Isla is well drawn and won here last week from this draw. Coorong Nugget is a strong type who has a good strike rate at this track. Box Up 1.3.4.6

Race 6 - Coorong Lucy is resuming tonight, she was in outstanding form prior to missing a place here back in July, she has a personal best at this venue of 29.46 and is drawn for a bold showing. Danyo’s Gretta was a last start winner here, she is a must for our First Four along with Lektra Theory. Box up 1.2.4.8

Race 7 - There look to be several strong chances in this and the well-drawn Kipling is one of them, he cruised to a 29.79 win here last start from box 5 and with his slick box manners should prove very hard to beat. Couture is in outstanding form winning his last three all in good fashion, he will be charging home late and can’t be left out of calculations. Long Gully Barny found trouble here last start and can improve. Box up 1.3.7.8

Race 8 - This is the final of the 7 heats of the 2020 TAB Adelaide Cup and I like one in this at each way odds in TAKEN, he has good form in Victoria and is in the astute kennel of Ray Murray, he loves a wide draw and can’t be taken likely. Alfieri is working towards a win and is well drawn down in box 2, he can carve out quick times when on song and looks right in the mix. Rushes has been very good to us in recent weeks and is strong in the run home. Box up 2.6.7.8

Race 9 - Jack’s Well was a huge run when 2nd behind Black Baccara, he was checked early and flew late, he gets his chance tonight to break back into the winners circle. Nockatunga had good support and went on to score in 30.27 here last start, he can be hit and miss on lid rise but the draw brings him right into the race. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 10 - This is a 600m and Hank The Hustler is the measuring stick in this, he has won 2 from 2 over this trip and has a personal best of 34.77 here, he’s our top pick but will be at skinny odds. Shanlyn Haven will find this a lot easier than her recent run over the 731m, she can finish in the placings. 4 from 1.2.7

Race 11 - Toora Ziggy finally broke through for a win here last week over the sprint from a wide draw, he is a big strong type who can kick up along the rails and score. Oakvale Elite led and was run down by Rushes here last week, he appears the likely leader again and is amongst the main chances, add Classic McLaren and Ask Me Now for the First Four. Box up 1.2.5.8

Race 12 - On a huge night of racing let’s hope we have finished on the right side of the ledger and go home on a winner. See You Smile is my roughie of the night, she has a good turn of early pace, she must lead to win and with luck might be able to pinch this at odds for the Rawlings kennel. Burzar and Lawrie Road are other strong chances. Box up 1.2.7.8

277M FOR MT GAMBIER UNTIL 305M INSTALLED

After consultation with the Mt Gambier GRC, GRSA have approved the re-introduction of 277m effective immediately, however, they will cease when a new distance of 305m is made available, hopefully by the middle of November.

The Club believes a short course distance will assist their greyhound numbers in the region and allow the club to continue to meet nomination requirements.

There will only be two 277m races introduced effective immediately, one for young Maiden greyhounds with the youngest greyhounds gaining entry first based on age. There will also be a Masters 277m with eligible greyhounds being select on age with the oldest given first preference. Masters conditions will be the same as races conducted in the Metro area with greyhounds 3¾ years and above eligible.

GRSA strongly recommends trainers nominate for multiple distances to ensure they do not miss out on a run at the meeting.

Nominations close 9.00am on Tuesday, 6th October with GRSA.

HEATS CLASSIC 2020 PRELUDE (2)

The Heats of Classic 2020 Prelude (2) will be run on Wednesday, 14th October with the $4,000 Final on Thursday, 22nd October. This series is for greyhounds paid up for Classic 2020.

KURT DONSBERG ON THE INTERVIEW ROUNDS

He is mainly doing this for upcoming feature races. The interviews will be a couple of quick questions and last for about 30 seconds just to give an extra insight at the race meeting which GRSA fully supports.

SATURDAY MORNING FORTNIGHTLY MEETINGS

We recently introduced the fortnightly Saturday morning meeting at Angle Park and to accommodate this meeting through our weekly schedule we made some changes to the number of races run during and after this meeting at other venues.

We have also made the Saturday morning meetings Time Graded with alternate conditions as this is the biggest group or greyhounds, with programming crucial to accommodate the weekly schedule.
