TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

Tonight we have another massive 12 event programme and the highlight is the running of the 2021 Easter Cup over the 600m, race 8 on the card. it certainly is a quality event as all 8 runners can run quick times on the lure. We also have two Maidens to kick start the night in recent weeks we have seen some quality times run by the youngsters and tonight it should be no different. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events, good luck at have a HAPPY AND SAFE EASTER.

Race 1 - The Ben Rawlings kennel look a chance with Blue By You, he overcame early trouble to run 3rd here on debut and from the draw gets his chance. Dashing Jinx has been placed in all four career runs and is working towards a win, add Galway Express who is in the Rasmussen kennel. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 2 - This is the 2nd of the Maidens and Deadly Mamba was well supported here last start on debut when running 4th after missing the start, he only needs to begin a little quicker tonight for a forward showing. Emmy Driven and Victa Maggie have been around the mark and certainly are amongst the better chances. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 3 - Agent Hamish showed a good turn of early speed here last start only to be run down in quick time, he looks the likely leader again and will go close. Victa Reid’s past couple look ordinary, but he has been racing in Victoria against very smart opposition, he is a huge chance with early luck. Victa Haydn will only keep on improving and is one to follow. Box up 1.5.7.8

Race 4 - This is a wide-open affair, and I will stick with Rushes who has a terrific strike rate at HQ, he has won here in slick times in the past and is amongst the better chances. Sweet Rose has been racing well and from the rails draw is right in the mix. Power Burner is very strong and is well drawn Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 5 - Weblec Blade ran a good second last start at Murray Bridge from the good draw should go well. Shots Fired won on debut at Gawler in 31.00, the former NSW performer can be hit and miss on lid rise but has plenty of ability. Shadow Burner can handle the wide draw and will be coming home hard. Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 6 - There is a lot of early pace in this so we will stick with the well-drawn Long Gully Barny who should be the improver as he found a heap of trouble here last run and is well boxed. Sierra Moon is making her debut, the EX NSW performer has handy credentials and cant be overlooked here. Dakota Hummer is in career best form and has an eachway chance. Box Up 2.3.6.8

Race 7 - Zipping Slade was a nice effort here last run when running 2nd in good time, he won here at his previous run in good time and is drawn to have every chance. Tangelo Fire has won three of her past four, she has been a handy inclusion to the Rawlings kennel since crossing the border. Box up 1.2.4.8

Race 8 - This is the FINAL of the 2021 Easter Cup over the 600m and as mentioned earlier all runners have a chance. Defy has bounced back with two wins on the trot, he can run quick times when on the lure and is amongst the better chances. Gary’s Miracle was very impressive when winning last week in 34.94, he has good early pace and will be hard to hold out. Rugged And Ready goes well from wide draws and is the value runner, add Bedrock Fred who had a heap of support here last Thursday. Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 9 - Hold On was a last start winner at Gawler over the 643m by a massive 9 length’s, he has been placed here in 3 of his 4 starts and is drawn for a bold showing. Emerley Phantom is very capable on her night, she has won here in quick times in the past and will be right in the finish. Shanlyn Charlott is well boxed and is a trifecta chance. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 10 - Terrific Keith looks to have ability, he was well supported here at his debut when placed and should only be improved by the run. Jezza Bence is an EX Victorian, he has two wins and 9 placings from 16 and was placed at Sandown last start, he is a must for the trifecta. Box Up 2.4.5.9

Race 11 - This is the Distance affair of the night and with only the four runners it’s anybody’s race, I will go with Miss Takiri, she has been placed here at her past two in very good company, she doesn’t win many but gets a chance here. Springvale Shine loves to run a place and Miss Bellawood has been racing below her best. Couture will be running on but normally gets back in his races. 5.7.1.3 for $1

Race 12 - After a big night of racing Hot Rocks can hopefully send us home on a winning note in a very open event, he has the draw and can hopefully kick up early and win. Zipping Bates and Its Smudgy both have pace and are amongst the chances. Box Up 1.2.5.8

ORDER OF PREFERENCE TRACK CLASSIFICATIONS

As approved from the Grading Review meeting last November the track classifications in the Order of Preference policy has changed to be more reflective of the types of meetings and races being conducted when selecting greyhounds.

This will mean that SA track classifications in the Order of Preference policy on the current schedule has been updated to -

a.       City = CTA (Angle Park Thursday)

b.       Provincial = CTB & PR1 (Angle Park Monday, Gawler Sunday and Murray Bridge Friday)

c.       Country = PR2 (Angle Park Tuesday/Saturday, Murray Bridge Straight Track Tuesday, Gawler Wednesday and Mt Gambier Thursday/Sunday)

GRSA and Ozchase have extensively tested the changes and believe they are correct for implementation. Ozchase are planning to implement tomorrow night subject to change with the Angle Park Monday and Murray Bridge Straight Track meetings graded under this Order of Preference.

Time Grading events are now being coded differently in the Grade of event with TG1-4W & TG5+W being used which will enable a better allocation of points for the WPS for these events which was approved at the GRP meeting late last year. Mt Gambier today  and Saturdays Angle Park meetings are using this coding.

The Grading Department expect very little changes to the current selection of greyhounds for our meetings by changing the SA track classifications for the Order of Preference policy, however, it will align better with our race meetings. Please contact the Grader for further clarification if required.

GRADING OF CITY A MEETINGS WHEN ANGLE PARK SHUTDOWN –

When Angle Park is redeveloped in mid April the below outcomes have been listed below -

  • When Angle Park is shutdown for redevelopment that the City A meetings will be shared with Murray Bridge and Gawler. Murray Bridge will conduct back to back Thursday meetings allowing for Heats and Finals of normal and feature races. Gawler will then run back to back Sundays again allowing for Heats and Finals of normal and feature races. This will mean that there is one Metropolitan (CITY A) meeting per week.
  • Feature 515m races will be run at Gawler over the 531m and any 731m feature races will be run at Murray Bridge over the 680m (the 680m start will be available as the 731m boxes will be removed from Angle Park once redevelopment starts allowing for that distance to be available)
  • There will be a 680m CITY A prizemoney at Murray Bridge each Thursday every week whether City A or Prov 1 to support these stayers during this period.
  • These meetings will be considered as if the greyhounds have never raced at the venue. This will mean greyhounds will be grades Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 to start with unless new into the state and regraded higher.
  • With all grades starting from new (no higher than Grade 5 effectively) there will not be as higher prizemoney races per meeting initially with no high grade races being conducted. There will be a Best 8 each meeting over the 455m, 530m, 680m at Murray Bridge and a 531m and 643m at Gawler for this high grade money. (GRSA will just make up these races). Trainers need to write “No Best 8” on the nomination if they do not want to be in this event. If there are insufficient nominations for a Best 8 the Grader will make up normally graded events based on current policy.
  • The Racing Department intends to run Grade 5 heats on a regular basis but may have to run Grade 4/5 heats to ensure there are races for these dogs. The finals of these races will pay the normal stakemoney for Finals (Grade 5 or Open depending on grade of Heats).
  • The Grader will give preference to 455m or higher at both Murray Bridge City A and Gawler City A meetings with the intent that no short course races will be conducted. However if there was a need to run some short course this would be under “standby conditions.
  •  When a greyhound wins a Grade 5 or above over any distance at the Gawler City A and Murray Bridge City A meetings they will NOT lose any grade 6’s at other venues. The normal rule has been suspended.
  • If a greyhound has already won a Grade 6 (City A) it should be eligible for MB CITY A and GAW CITY A Grade 6 if they have more Grade’s to win as these are considered different tracks. They will still only be able to win one CITY A at each of these meetings if they do not win more races than allowed.
  • There will be NO retrospectivity for Grading when the shutdown of Angle Park occurs.

ONLINE SCRATCHINGS NOW AVAILABLE

GRSA will now make scratchings out of drawn race meetings available for trainers through the Ozchase system, effective immediately. This will provide flexibility for trainers during their busy schedules. Trainers can still phone scratching’s through as normal.

Once a scratching has been lodged, GRSA will consider this greyhound as requiring to be removed and will be published as soon as possible or the next working day.

Any Late Scratching’s cannot be made via online and will have to be phoned through to the Stewards.

Please see below for the process of making a scratching via OzChase -

Scratchings
To request that a greyhound is scratched from a race, a trainer can select the ‘Scratch Greyhound’ action.
A greyhound can be selected from the dropdown on the screen. Once selected, the details related to this greyhound (ear brands, certificate number and microchips) will be displayed.
The meeting list presented to the trainer for selection will show those meetings where the selected greyhound has been allocated as a runner or reserve. If the greyhound has multiple starts at the meeting, then all races for this greyhound will be listed against the appropriate meeting entry.

The email notification sent to the Trainer and Grader will list the meeting and race details as shown in the example below:
