TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

We had a handy night here last Thursday in awful conditions but we managed to keep our nose in front, lets hope we can do the same again this evening. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - This is a toughie to kick start the night with, we will go with It’s Your Shout down in box 1, he has the early pace to lead and he can hopefully skip away with a handy lead and hold on. Cobalt Missile has been placed at both his runs at Gawler over the short and he looks a chance. Add Razzle Darryl for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.4.7.9

Race 2 - Nike Apache was very impressive when winning here last week by over 10L, he has a good turn of early pace and is drawn for another bold showing. Blue By You gets back early in his races and will be doing his best work over the last 100m. Zinfandel Bart has been in fine form of late from inside draws, we hope he can handle the wide draw here tonight. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 3 - Earthworm Jim was a good effort when 2nd here behind Zinfandel Bart, he can only be improved and is the one they will have to catch. Spring Drama along with Zinfandel Nikki both have claims on their recent efforts and are well drawn. Add Finniss Flash for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 4 - With only the five runners Adele’s Entity can make it three on end, she has been in fantastic form and looks the leader. Major Major can never be overlooked he has won two of four here and is drawn for a forward showing. Victa Reid was a nice effort from a wide draw last week and is boxed to run a cheeky race. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 5 - This is over the 730m and Frankie Boy proved too strong on his distance debut when leading throughout to score. New Year Tears and Porridge Box running into the placings. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 6 - This certainly is a wide-open affair so it makes for a good First Four bet, Victa Saige gets her chance here to break through at this track, she has been placed on three occasions and might get a clear run early. Cosmic Kid was a handy effort here last run when placed and he has the early pace to be in the mix again. Springvale Rex is knocking on the door and can handle the wide draw. Box Up 3.4.7.8

Race 7 - Deadly Mamba has been placed at his last three starts here, his box manners have been a worry but if he can be handy early he looks a major player. Clear View was a very good effort when running on strongly and is more than capable of doing the same again in this. Velocity Fairy looks the leader but does struggle to run a strong 530m at the moment. Box Up 2.3.4.5

Race 8 - Victa Grosso has been in outstanding form with wins at Murray Bridge and Gawler in quick times, he is well drawn and is one of the better bets of the night. Sunset Toxic has only had the two runs since transferring to SA and is the danger. Victa Kurt along with Aston Odyssey for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 9 - With the scratching of Rugged And Ready its very hard to go past Jack’s Well, he showed a heap of pace here last week to lead only to be run down, he is a lot better than that effort and should win here. Forte Nero loves to run a place and has a handy record this trip being in the money in 7 of 10 here. 6 from 4 8.2.

Race 10 - See You Smile can send us home on a winning note, she was a very nice effort here last week when 2nd and from the draw, will be amongst the main chances. Hot Spartan hasn’t missed a cheque in his last five runs here the small field will only enhance his chances. Aston Antoine can pinch a place from the draw. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Best Bets

Race 6 No: 4 - Victa Saige
Race 8 No: 1 - Victa Grosso

Best Each-Way

Race 7, No: 3 - Deadly Mamba

NATIONAL STRAIGHT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP RESCHEDULED 19TH DECEMBER – SA NOMINATIONS CLOSE NEXT THURSDAY

Racing Queensland advises that The National Straight Track Championship (NSTC) Final has been rescheduled to 19 December 2021 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club. All participating states (GRV, GRNSW, GRSA, and RQ) remain committed to the series.

Interstate qualification will take place at Healesville (GRV), Richmond (GRNSW), and Murray Bridge (GRSA). All state finals will carry prizemoney of $5,000 to the winner.

To coincide with these dates GRSA has reprogrammed the heats to Tuesday 30th November with the state final on Tuesday 7th December

• Nominations for the SA Heats close with GRSA at 9.00am on Thursday, 25th November.

Queensland state qualifying heats will commence on 5 December with the state qualifying final on 12 December.

Two greyhounds from each state will qualify for the NSTC Final at Capalaba worth total prizemoney of $37,500 ($25,000 to the winner).

Whilst there is currently some restricted access to Queensland for some parts of Australia, last Monday the Queensland Government announced that it is aiming to allow fully vaccinated interstate travellers to enter Queensland without the need to quarantine from 17 December 2021.

However, if an interstate trainer is unable to travel to Queensland, the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club have advised that interstate-based greyhounds are able to be hosted by Club for the purpose of racing in Final. These arrangements can be made by contacting the Capalaba Club on 07 3390 2772.

Full NSTC series conditions, including eligibility to nominate, are available on the GRSA website.

2022 GAWLER PRODUCE STAKES  - NOMINATIONS CLOSE NEXT FRIDAY 26TH NOVEMBER

The 2022 Gawler Produce Stakes will be run by GRSA in conjunction with the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club.

Once again we will offer guaranteed Final stakemoney of $22,000. The estimate for the total series prizemoney is $40,000, based on this years series. The series is for greyhounds whelped in 2020.

In 2022 we will again be offering additional incentives for trainers to nominate. A bonus will be offered to any greyhound which can win both the Produce Stake and the Gawler Gold Cup.

The jackpot has increased from $9,000 to $10,000 as Victa Haydn missed out on winning the Gawler Gold Cup this year after running 3rd.

The SA Bred bonus will also be continued; should the winner of the Final be SA Bred, there will be a SA Bred bonus of $1,000 to the owner and $500 to the breeder.

The series will be in June with the Final on Sunday, 26th June 2022. (Pending alterations)

GRSA administers the event for the Club, so all payments are to be made to GRSA. The fees are, one-off payment option $121.00 or the sustaining option of $33 (first), $55 (second) and $88 (Final).

Nomination Forms are available, along with the full list of conditions and the payment schedule.

* Nominations for the 2022 Gawler Produce will close on Friday, 26th November with GRSA.

GRSA SKY WEEKLY SCHEDULE TO CHANGE FROM 1st DECEMBER 2021

From the start of December, the Sky weekly schedule of greyhound racing in South Australia will change.

The first two Sundays of any month will routinely be scheduled at Murray Bridge with the remaining Sundays being allocated to Gawler. The primary reason for the change is about providing both of those Clubs with an accessible weekly timeslot which helps them to cultivate a strong base of local patronage.

GRSA explored the opportunity that exists to secure a permanent Friday night timeslot on Sky but those plans were curtailed by the existing congestion of meetings in that spot. The model of ‘shared Sundays’ represented the next best solution for a strategy based on community engagement.

The Murray Bridge region is synonymous with racing, and has been the site of the two most significant infrastructure projects undertaken by SA’s thoroughbred and greyhound codes in the past two decades. GRSA expects trainer numbers to continue to grow in the region well into the future, and increasingly so as the traditional (greyhound) training regions to the north of Adelaide experience heightened levels of development. The strategy, as it relates to Murray Bridge, is also partly founded on the fact that the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council is such a proud supporter of local racing opportunities.

The schedule will transition from 1st December 2021, which will allow crowds over the December and Christmas period to enjoy prime-time racing opportunities at each of Gawler, Murray Bridge and Angle Park.

CHANGE TO ANGLE PARK SATURDAY IN DECEMBER

Greyhound Racing SA only has one Fortnightly Saturday Morning in December which was programmed on Saturday 11th December with no racing on Saturday 25th December due to Christmas Day.

This would give us a 4 week gap until our next Saturday meeting in January. GRSA has liaised with Racing Queensland who advised that they are prepared to swap their Fortnightly Townsville meeting with ours for Saturday 18th December which will give SA a 3 week gap before and after our Saturday meetings.

Trials will remain on Sunday 12th December due to staffing at Angle Park and trials will now be on Sunday 19th December due to the race meeting. GRSA will update this to industry closer to the dates.

GRSA appreciates the support in regard to this change from Racing Queensland, the Townsville GRC and Sky Racing.

CHRISTMAS SET TO HEAT UP AT ANGLE PARK

Things are expected to heat up at Angle Park during the two weeks leading into Christmas with the introduction of six rich events over the 530m, 595m and 730m distances.

Dubbed the “Festival Of Fire”, the series will provide opportunities for the best 48 nominations for the 530m trip, the best 28 nominations over 595m, and the best 8 nominations for a 730m event.  Separately, heats and final of a restricted event (0-5 wins), running from Saturday morning to Thursday night, will provide a separate opportunity for that category of runner.

The Festival of Fire series will commence on the racenight of Thursday December 16, continue into the Saturday timeslot and then culminate in 5 finals and a special stayers event carrying a collective purse in excess of $100,000 the following Thursday night (December 23).  As a new event, the Board has resolved that the top-up amounts for this series will sit outside the Wagering Activity Payments (WAP) model.  This means that the majority of the stakemoney for the series will be additional to the guaranteed return that has already been committed to industry through the WAP model.

Conditions –

  • Greyhounds must be SA trained.
  • Greyhounds must be in South Australia as of midnight 1st November 2021 to be eligible (greyhounds that have not had their first training amendment lodged that are in SA at this time will be eligible)
