TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

We have another huge night of racing ahead of us here at HQ with a massive 12 event programme, the highlights of the night are two very good 600m events, races 1 and 5. They both look to be good betting affairs so its well worth having a go at the First Four in both. Sir Truculent is in race 6 and he made short work of them last week when winning in quick time, he should do the same  on his recent efforts. Keep your eye out for the Victorian raiders, they have come across in numbers tonight so it makes for interesting racing. We also see the two Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club SYNDICATE runners kicking off in WEBLEC REBEL race 4 and WEBLEC BLADE race 9, both are trained by Vadim Roz and this is the new venture for getting involved for a very small outlay in the industry (good luck).

Race 1 - Victa Saige made her debut over this trip last week and led them a merry dance for a slick win in 34.87, she will be very hard to beat again on that effort. Bedrock Fred was also very impressive when winning in 34.96 and is the danger. Emerley Phantom and Mai Tai Focus for the first four. Box Up 3.4.5.6

Race 2 - This is the 1st of two Maidens and the Rasmussen kennel has Victa Haydn engaged here, the litter has been more than handy and looks well drawn on debut. Break Time was a very good 3rd here last start and will only be improved. Add Dashing Jinx along with Blakes Crossing. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 3 - The Rasmussen kennel could be off to a flying start for the night as I have tipped them to win the opening three events, they have Victa Maggie here and she was a good even performance when running 3rd in good time. Dark Tides is in the astute Kirin Corby kennel, the well-bred youngster is sure to be well tried and can’t be overlooked. Dynamic Artist and Springvale Cher will be running on strongly. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 4 - As mentioned earlier Weblec Rebel is making his debut for the WE LOVE OUR DOGS syndicate, he has had 18 starts for 2 wins and 11 placings, he has been placed at Sandown at his last four runs and should go very close here on his debut. Velocity Comet has a good turn of early pace and has been racing well. Terrific Keith is a newcomer in the Chegia kennel and can’t be left out of calculations on his SA debut. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 5 - This is the 2nd of the 600m and I liked the run of Mahogany Row over the sprint last start, he flew home over the sprint after finding early trouble and the extra trip should help. Fabs You Go has been racing well without winning, he has been in the money in 4 of his 7 runs at this distance and is our value runner. Maximum Refusal only need early luck to be right in the mix. Box Up 2.3.4.5

Race 6 - I love watching Sir Truculent when he races and after last week when he won by a massive 11.50 lengths in slick time he only needs early luck to do the same again in this. Springvale Anna has been racing well with two wins from her last four and can run into the money again. Burn Time has handy Victorian form and can’t be left out of the First Four. Box Up 3.4.7.8

Race 7 - This certainly is a terrific betting affair, Barbados Express charged home late to win here over the 600m in good time from this draw, she is back to the sprint here and looks one of the better chances. Holy Reign broke through for a much-deserved win and carved out a 29.85 run, she is drawn to have every chance again here. Yenderra Evie will be running on strongly. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 8 - The Rasmussen kennel could have a huge night or I have put the MOKERS on them, I am leaning towards Rushes from the good draw, he is very smart when on song and is drawn to be right in the finish. Spring Vinnie and the pacey Lily Pad are racing well along with Buddy Guy who is in career best form. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 9 - Rugged And Ready has been very good to us with two wins on the trot, he is back to the sprint and has a personal best over this trip of 29.76, he looks very hard to beat for mine. All In Billy has handy interstate form and is drawn to have every chance. Weblec Blade (another of the new syndicate runners) along with No Degree for the minors. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 10 - With only the five runners Burning Nitro gets her chance, she has been placed at her last five starts here and flew late to run a very good 2nd in good time, she is our top pick in this. Way Too Much was a last start winner and as we all know winning form is good form, he is drawn for another bold showing. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 11 - Shadow Burner found a heap of trouble here last start from a wide draw, he is down on the fence here and is amongst the better chances. Sky Wesley loves this draw, he has won two of his last four from the draw. Too Easy Jack and Defy can finish amongst them. Box up 1.2.4.8

Race 12 - Its certainly a tough race to finish on and we will go with Reiko Bolt who is stepping up to the 515m tonight, he has terrific short course form and gets his chance in a wide-open event. All In Dungee was a last start winner at Shepparton and should be more than competitive in this. Its Smudgy and Cawbourne Jumpy for the first four. Box Up 1.5.7.8

LOCAL NEWS

SA RAIDERS IN LAUNCHING PAD HEATS AT SANDOWN TONIGHT

There will plenty of SA interest at Sandown tonight when they conduct their rich Launching Pad Heats. SA trained greyhounds have made the journey over with Gemtree Maximus first up in heat 1.

The Paul Rehmann trained sprinter trialled last week at Sandown in preparation for tonight’s event and should derive plenty of benefit from the hit out. If he can replicate his win in the local Launching Pad final he will be right in the mix. His race is race 2 at 6.40pm SA time coming from box 8.

The Rasmussen team have also made the trip across the border with Victa Reid also in race 2 no 6, Outstanding News (race 5 no 3 at 7.40pm) and Victa Grosso (race 11 no 3 at 9.46pm).

Good luck to all connections tonight with the first 4 from each heat qualifying for the semi-finals next week.

SYNDICATION UPDATE

Sean Donnelly has been hard at work with interested new owners, participants and Clubs in his role of Syndication Co-ordinator.

Tonight at Angle Park the two Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club “We Love Our Dogs” syndicate greyhounds, Weblec Blade (race 4 no 4) and Weblec Rebel (race 9 no 7) will compete under the training guidance of Vadim Roz with around 30 excited new or returning owners into our industry.

Sean’s primary role is to grow syndication in South Australia and with the number of new people in the first syndicate signs are looking positive. He is still seeking support from industry in regard to available trainers and sourcing of greyhounds so please do not hesitate in reaching out to him if you can assist. He is also available in providing administrative support for Clubs and trainers and for any person interested in getting involved in syndicates in SA.

THE EASTAR – MATCH RACE SERIES AT GAWLER – NOMINATIONS CLOSE WEDNESDAY, 31ST MARCH

The local South Australian match race series, nicknamed ‘The Eastar’, has been shifted to Gawler due to the track update of Angle Park.

The series will be held on Easter Sunday night, 4th April over the 531m. A big local crowd is expected for the meeting given the timing of the event and the public holiday the following day.

Greyhounds competing must be South Australian, based on the Nationals Championships conditions, which require greyhounds to be domiciled in the State for at least 76 days of the last 150 days prior to the close of nominations.  Selection for this series will be for the fastest greyhounds nominated, based on their best time over the Gawler 531m distance since 1st October 2020 (regardless of their placing). GRSA will regularly update and publish a leaderboard (top 25), so all trainers and connections are aware of where their greyhound stands up until the close of nominations on Wednesday, 31st March 2021.

The head-to-head matches will be decided based on the final leaderboard, with no manual intervention by the Grader, as per the following:

·       Match 1 – Seed 1 v Seed 4   (1st $2,750 - 2nd $350)

·       Match 2 – Seed 2 v Seed 3   (1st $2,500 - 2nd $350)

·       Match 3 – Seed 5 v Seed 8   (1st $2,250 - 2nd $350)

·       Match 4 – Seed 6 v Seed 7   (1st $2,000 - 2nd $350)

The prizemoney for the overall Eastar placegetters (based on individual times in the match races) will be:

  • 1st $4,500 – 2nd $1,300 – 3rd $650

The overall winner of the Gawler Eastar will be guaranteed a spot in the State of Origin Match race series (SA V Vic) to be held at the newly developed Angle Park track in September, as long as it is nominated and eligible to represent SA. As an added incentive the winner of the State of Origin Match Race Series guarantees itself a spot in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup in October and if successful will be guaranteed a spot in the Group 1 TOPGUN at the Meadows in November.
