TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have a MASSIVE 12 event programme tonight at headquarters so we will need to start the night on the front foot as the last half of the programme looks very even. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events so we will concentrate on them later in the night.

Race 1 - The Rasmussen kennel are a chance of having a handy night and they can go close in this with Winlock Huddy, he will find this a lot easier than his past couple and is drawn for a bold showing. Lektra Theory rattled home to win for us here last week at each way odds and can figure again in the top three. Little Earner and Fly For Fun for the First Four. Box Up 1.4.6.8

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and we will go with the pacey Star Jiggs, he has been placed over the short at Gawler and for mine has been looking for the 500m. Springvale Cher is tardy early and will be doing her best work late as will Raging Rocco. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 3 - I like one in this at double figure odds in Boss Three Fifty, he finally returned to the winners circle last start with a handy win from box 8, if he can lead here he will improve very hard to beat. Major Major can improve along with American Man and Hot Sambuca. Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 4 - This is the distance affair of the night and Sir Truculent continues on his winning way, he carved out a slick 42.95 here last week and should win again. No Surrender has won 3 of his last 4 and went 43.17, he loves to track wide in his races and can run into the placings. Boom Down and Zipping Galon for the minors. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 5 - We will go with the Nicole Price trained Up Time Girl in this, she can be hit and miss on box rise but with moderate beginners on her inside she should be able to lead these and win. Aston Opal and Dyna Adria can run into the placings. Box Up 4.6.7.8

Race 6 - This is a very strong 600m and Double By Design bounced back into the winners circle here last start with a strong 35.02 win from box 8, he is drawn to lead and win once again and looks one of the better bets of the night. Two Times Twice is a must for Trifecta punters along with Holy Reign, both have terrific form over trip. Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 7 - With only the four runners now it makes for a terrific race once again with the high flying Coorong Lucy and Alfieri who will be running on strongly both are in good form and should Quinella here once again. Hot Sophie and Danyo’s Charlie round out the First Four. In Order 6-2-1-8

Race 8 - This is a wide open affair so we will go with the well drawn Premier Double down in box 1, he won from this draw 2 starts back in 30.19, he will be running on late as he tends to miss the kick but should go very close. Toora Ziggy is another who is strong, he can run very quick times with a clear run and is amongst the main chances. Add Lenny The Jet and Dyna Smokey for the minors. Box Up 1.2.5.6

Race 9 - Zipping Ted hopefully is the improver in this, the Tony Rasmussen trained chaser is drawn for a bold showing from his rails draw, he is tardy early and only needs to be with them into the back for a forward showing. Love First has been racing well at Gawler and Cawbourne Cooper has handy short course form. Box up 1.2.5.8

Race 10 - Danyo’s Rosie has won 3 of her past 4 including a 30.09 win here last start, from box 1 she looks amongst the main chances for mine. Coorong Nugget ran on well to score last start in 30.02 and will be right in the mix once again. We cant leave Classic McLaren out as he will be doing his best work late. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 11 - The Rawlings kennel look to have a handy youngster with Snakebite Me, he won his Maiden in 30.09 then was run down here last week by Coorong Nugget in 30.02, he has the pace to lead and should be very hard to beat. Ainsley Flash is a must for our Trifecta as she has been in the money in 4 of her last 5 runs. Jervois Boy and Cawbourne Zebra both have place claims. Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 12 - Lets hope we are in front coming to the last as my roughie of the night is Top Right in this, he won over the short at Murray Bridge 3 runs back in moderate time then was only beaten just under a length here at his latest start in handy time. All Out Crazy and Good Odds Diana for the minors. Box Up 1.2.3.6

LOCAL NEWS

2020 GAWLER PRODUCE HEATS TOMORROW

All eyes will focus on Gawler tomorrow when some of the best young and performed chasers will do battle in the $2,000 Heats of the 2020 Gawler Produce.

The likes of Spring Vinnie, Shadow Burner, Wooden Tiger, Oakvale Style, Born Lovely, Worth A Shout, Long Gully Barny and Air Marshall will all contest the series.

With 4 Heats the first four placegetters will qualify for the $2,700 Semi-Finals on Friday, 26th June with the $22,000 Final and $2,700 Consolation on Sunday, 5th July.

The winner of the Final is also eligible for a $8,000 bonus if it can win the 2020 Gawler Gold Cup later this year. If the winner of the Gawler Produce is SA Bred, there is also a $1,000 SA Bred Bonus paid to the owner and $500 bonus paid to the breeder.

CLASSIC AND BREEDERS FUTURITY PAYMENTS – DUE TOMORROW

Owners of SA Bred greyhounds are reminded that the next batch of Futurity payments are due tomorrow, Friday, 19th June 2020.

The payments due are:

Classic 2020 – Final Payment (Pups born July 18 to December 18)

This payment is for greyhounds for which the first two Sustaining Payments have been made. The Final Payment is $121 per greyhound.

Breeders 2021 – Second Payment (Pups born January 19 to June 19)

This payment is for greyhounds for which the first Sustaining Payment was made last December. The Second Sustaining Payment is $55 per pup or a Final Payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

With regard to the First Payment for Classic 2021 (Pups born July 19 to December 19) GRSA has decided to delay these payments due to the current environment affected by COVID-19.  This series will now only consist of two sustaining payments, First payment of $82.50 ($27.50 + $55) or Final Payment of $121 due Friday, 19th December with the Final Payment due in June 2021 for owners who pay the First Payment in December.

The payments for Classic 2020 and Breeders 2021 are unable to be delayed due to races programmed in August for Classic 2020 and having the First Payments already made for Breeders 2021.

TIME GRADING AT ANGLE PARK THIS WEDNESDAY ALL 388M – NOMINATIONS CLOSE TOMORROW

With three Angle Park Wednesdays this month we have been able to run an extra Time Graded meeting which will be conducted over the 388m for ALL RACES only.

Due to the biggest pool of these greyhounds missing out each Time Graded meeting being the 1-4 win 388m and 5+ win 388m greyhounds we believed it was an opportunity to support these greyhounds.  This scheduling only comes up a couple of times a year to run a purely short course meeting giving these dogs a run.

THE GRADER ON LEAVE

GRSA advise that GRSA Grader Greg Barber will be on leave from Friday this week for a 4 week period.

He will not be contactable on his extension during this period so any phone calls or queries regarding grading need to be advised to the offices of GRSA on 8243 7100 where the Racing Manager will manage.

LICENSE RENEWALS – EXTENDED BY 12 MONTHS

Due to COVID-19 and in support of participation GRSA has decided to extend all license renewals by 12 months. For Tier 1, 2 & 3 Trainers, Breeders, Owners and Attendants these licenses will now expire on 30th June 2021.

MT GAMBIER STAKEMONEY INCREASE

Due to the Victorian Border closure, the opportunity for Mt Gambier to have a viable racing option has been dramatically compromised.

Further to discussions at the recent Members of Company meeting, GRSA and the Clubs expressed support for Mt Gambier returning to normal category 3 levels immediately. GRSA and the Clubs both believe that Mt Gambier needed additional support to remain viable in this difficult time.

Discussions are occurring in the background about stakemoney levels and staff remuneration returning to normal levels in the weeks ahead.

REMOTE TRAINERS FEE TO ASSIST MT GAMBIER MEETING

With continuing border restrictions affecting participation in the South East due to COVID-19, GRSA has decided to support the Mt Gambier Thursday meeting knowing the importance to be racing on a weekly basis during this time.

For those trainers that live more than 150 kilometres from Mt Gambier and travel to this meeting they will receive an additional $75 payment to their normal Trainers Fee. The fee will be capped at one payment per registered premises and will continue until the borders are open. This has taken effect from the Clubs meeting held on Thursday, 18th June 2020.

MURRAY BRIDGE SUNDAYS TO FINISH AROUND 8PM GOING FORWARD

GRSA advise that we have liaised with Sky Racing regarding the finishing times of Murray Bridge on Sundays recently.

With COVID-19 restrictions in place Sky advised that where possible the meeting will finish around 8pm. This will aid participants returning home locally or travelling.

SCRATCHING DEADLINES AND TRIALS BOOKING CLOSING TO REMAIN AT 3PM

Whilst the Greyhound Racing SA Offices have gone back to closing at 4.30pm the scratching deadlines and trails bookings closing will remain at 3pm to assist the management of these processes.
