Angle Park Preview 18th July 2013
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
The main highlight on tonight’s programme is the two semis of the Champion Puppy in race’s 4 and 6. The most open event tonight is race 8 which has a couple of inform sprinters engaged and it looks to be a good pick 4 event.
Race 1 tonight see’s Victa Brooke who started a very short priced favourite last start who missed the kick finding early trouble should see her bounce back into the winner’s list here. She won from this draw in a slick 29.77 three starts back. Emerley Wizard was another who failed to fire in previous starts so look for a big improvement from him. Dyna Bruce and Linguist for the minors. Box up 1-4-6-8.
On to the second event on the card and Flying Tee will be very short here. He has won his last five at Gawler all in quick times. With 10 wins and 5 placing’s against his name from just 18 career runs he looks the goods. Box up 1-4-5-6, but in won’t pay much.
Race 3 and this is a very open affair and looks to be a really good betting race. I like the inside four as the outside brigade are tardy early. I’m leaning towards At This Moment but not with a lot of confidence. Box up 1-2-3-4.
The first of the Champion Puppy semis and Dustnado has drawn the pole and should bounce straight to the front and be too good. He is coming off a BON 29.73 win here. There looks to be at least five chances of filling the minors. Box up 1-3-4-8.
Race 5 and this is another good 600m event. Beach Lion is bred to run over more ground being out of Surf Lorian x Bothing (National Distance Champion). He has good form over the sprint but lacks early pace. He should drop down to the rails and win. Totally Tango is always a chance. Add in Valarie Allen for the trifecta. Box up 2-3-4-5.
Kalden Kapone is from WA and was super impressive on debut and he should be hard to beat in the second semi final of the Champion Puppy. He won well here in 29.88 from box 3, leading throughout. Looks hard to tip against him. Danger Sign will be rattling home along the rails. Box up 1-2-4-7.
Race 7 and this is a toughie over the sprint. Troy Murray can bring up a race to race double with Proven Pontiac however the draw of 4 is the biggest worry. Allen Illem is in form and Victa Sam is the best boxed down on the fence. Box up 1-3-4-5.
Onto race 8 and Just Shine for Robyn Mackellar just keeps on winning! Won in a similar field here last week in 29.81. He can win again! Encosta Kahn has been runner up in his last two starts behind him and will be right in the mix again. Sneaky Spirit and the pacey Tercel are more than capable at each way odds.
Race 9 and the inside three are the main chances. I have tipped them in race book order 1-2-3-4 for the pick 4.
Race 10 and this looks a two dog race in Wiregrass from box 1 and High Status out of box 4. Belford can’t be overlooked and is in fine form of late from wide draws. Box up 1-2-4-8.
The last and this is a dart job!!! It could be 5/1 the field. Full Beer Fridge has earned my respect with 2 wins here of late in moderate times and has early pace. Ceduna Cruiser hasn’t won here for several months and can be hit and miss on box rise. Box up 1-3-4-6.
Good Luck and Happy Punting

LOCAL INDUSTRY NEWS
CHAMPION PUPPY SEMI-FINALS
Tonight sees two Semi-Finals of the 2013 Champion Puppy. This follows the running of three heats last Wednesday, won by Dustnado (29.73), Kalden Kapone (29.88) and Ernie Bung Arrow (30.06)
The nominations for the series were about the same as last year with the normal Interstate invasion not coming to fruition which has given the locals even greater opportunity to claim a feature event.
The Champion Puppy Final will be run next Thursday 25th July, carrying prizemoney of $6,875. The box draw for the final will take place on track tonight, following race 8.
GAP PARADES TONIGHT
Something that is always a highlight for oncourse patrons is the GAP Parades. These are for those retired greyhounds who have found new homes away from the race track. Their new owners love to show them off and tonight during school holidays we will have two parades. They will be after race 2 due to run at 7.05pm and after race 4 due to run at 7.44pm. The GAP organisation does a terrific job and we look forward to these greyhounds oncourse tonight.
GROUP RACING SATURDAY NIGHT
The Group Racing continues Saturday night at The Meadows with a huge line up of racing including the running of the Hudson Pacific Maturity Semi Finals over 525m and the Heats of the AWM Distance Championship over the 725m.
There are four Semi Finals of the Maturity which will be races 5,6,7 & 8 and include high quality greyhounds in the series like Black Opal Magic, Schroder Bale, Dyna Nalin, Xylia Allen, Tomac Bale and Paw Licking. The first two from each semi final qualify for next weeks Group 1 $100,000 to the winner final.
There are three heats of the Distance Championship which include Irma Bale, Bell Haven and Destini Fireball in the series. The Final is at Group 2 level with prizemoney of $40,000 to the winner.
2013 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The AGRA Nationals Championships are just around the corner. The National Finals this year will be held at the Meadows in Victoria to be conducted on Saturday 24th August. Both the National Sprint and National Distance Finals will carry prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.
The State series for SA will be held at Angle Park for the Sprint and Distance on Thursday 1st August for the Heats with the State Finals on the 8th August.
With the Nationals less than a month away GRSA will continue to support distance and open sprint racing and will attempt to give these greyhounds every opportunity to compete.
The most important date for local trainers to remember is the national closing date for entries.
Acceptances for the National Championships will close with GRSA on Friday 26th July at 12 noon. Nominations must be on the prescribed form and the conditions of nomination form must also be signed. The forms are now available at GRSA.
A reminder to all trainers of the clause which requires a greyhound to have been domiciled in South Australia for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to the National Acceptance Closing date to be eligible to represent SA. If unsure of a greyhounds status, please contact the GRSA grading staff.
TRAINERS FEE FROM 1ST JULY
The Trainers Fee has started this month with $25 being paid per trainer and $5 per greyhound at all TAB and Non TAB meetings. For weekday meetings this money is being paid out at the track at Angle Park and Gawler and we appreciate the assistance of the Gawler GRC with the dispersion of this money. Please make sure that Trainers collect this money oncourse at each meeting. For weekend meetings (includes Mt Gambier Fridays) this money is being paid electronically into Trainers accounts.
