Angle Park Preview - 17th September 2020
by The Shadow
Tonight here at headquarters we have two FINALS, we have the running of the 2020 Coffex Coffee SA Oaks (race 6 ) and the Final of the 2020 BGC Industrial Cleaning Supplies SA Derby (race 8) both events carry $17,500 to the winner and are the highlight of tonight’s 10 event programme. We also have a terrific open event (race5) over the sprint, we see the return of Shadow Mist who has scorched the Angle Park loam at his most recent runs and Sunset Milo who is unbeaten in his four runs since transferring from WA. It makes for a BIG night of racing and with all races being Trifecta and First Four events we can go home on the right side of the ledger once again.
Race 1 - With only the 5 runners here in first we will stick with Boss McLaren, he has returned to form with a bang in recent weeks and was a last start winner here in 29.69, he has the pace to lead and will kick start our night. Golden Night loves this draw and has posted 3 wins in his last 4 starts, he is very strong and is the danger. Add American Man who will appreciate the small field. Box Up 1.2.4.7
Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the evening and a few of them have been trying to break their maiden status for quite some time. Allegra is one of them she is hit and miss on box rise but the draw brings her right into the mix. Banjo Riley is always there about and the wide draw will enhance his chances. Add Australasian Art who has handy short course form. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 3 - Cawbourne Boomer has been in very good form of late over the short at Murray Bridge, he made good ground on his debut here last start and is amongst the main chances. Song An Stories is my top pick, he is yet to win here but his recent form suggests he can give this a big shake from the draw. Jacks Well cant be overlooked, he blew the start here at his latest start and is a lot better than that effort. Box Up 1.4.7.8.
Race 4 - Weblec Jet found a heap of trouble on his SA debut and battled on well to run 3rd behind Classic McLaren, he is sure to improve and he should be able to lead and win. Wooden Tiger loves this draw, he will be moderate away before he clicks into over drive and will be flying home late, he is a must for our Trifecta. Love And Thunder and Hot Sambuca for value. Box Up 1.2.4.8
Race 5 - This is the Open event of the night and it certainly looks a ripper on paper, Shadow Mist had been scorching the Angle Park loam in recent runs and should prove very hard to beat again. Sunset Milo has been unbeaten since transferring to SA, he won the Mount Gambier Cup in good fashion and his only two runs at headquarters have been 1st class, he is the BIG danger. Blister and Cawbourne Get Up are good place chances. Box Up 1.2.7.8
Race 6 - The Final of the 2020 SA Oaks, My Girl Kizzy is my pick in this, she mustered up on the fence after missing the kick on her debut here and went on to score in 29.72 from box 1, she will only be improved by the run and should be hard to beat. Funambulist is well drawn and has a good turn of box speed, she has been in fine form and don’t be surprised if she’s right in the finish at handy odds. Dakota Roxy has struck form at the right time and loves the circuit. Add Weblec Whirl who will be a chance for our First Four. Box Up 2.3.5.8
Race 7 - Rushes gets his chance to bounce back into the winners circle tonight, he found early trouble here last week only to run a very good 2nd, he is drawn to kick up and win. Hank The Hustler is the danger he copped a check early and lost any chance of winning, he is a smart type with a clear run and the small field is a bonus. Bay Me can fill the Trifecta. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 8 - This is the Final of the 2020 SA Derby and with the $17,500 to the winner’s cheque it certainly is a top class event. Coorong Nugget has come up with gun draw, he was run down right on the post here last week by Woodside Zulu, he has been in the money 10 of 12 at this venue and is drawn to have every chance. Major Major continued his good form with a smart win making it 4 from his last 5 runs, he has pace drawn on his inside and will need to step cleanly to score. Fly For Trix is my pick at each way odds, he led here last week only to be run down by Major Major ,he was on fire prior to that run and is a chance of leading tonight and pinching this. Woodside Zulu was a massive run to score in the heats and is a must for the First Four Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 9 - Sir Truculent has had his colours lowered in recent starts but should bounce back tonight, he is all class with 21 wins over this trip but will be at skinny odds. Miss Takiri looks the likely leader, she is a chance at odds if there was trouble behind her, add Boom Down for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.4.6.8
Race 10 - Its always good to go home on a winning note and the Rasmussen kennel can do that for us with Cawbourne Scar, he finds himself down in grade and from a perfect draw he gets his chance to bounce back. Hot Zorro and Cawbourne Sophie along with I’m Top Girl can run the First Four. Box Up 1.2.5.8

GRSA advises that the boxing procedure for feature Heat and Finals will revert back to 2 rows effective immediately where applicable. GRSA will continue to monitor these processes.
KURT DONSBERG ON THE INTERVIEW ROUNDS
GRSA is happy to advise that on course photographer Kurt Donsberg will add yet another string to his bow by doing some pre-race and post-race interviews with trainers to be published on social media adding extra exposure for our industry.
He will mainly do this for upcoming feature races staring with last weeks Oaks and Derby Heats meeting. These interviews will only be a couple of quick questions and last for about 30 seconds just to give an extra insight at the race meeting which GRSA fully supports.
MEPUNGA ISLA TO TRIAL IN PREPARATION FOR OUR FEATURE RACES
Quality chaser Mepunga Isla has been sent across to Laurie Cahalan and will trial tonight at Angle Park in between races in preparation for our up coming featiures.
A winner of 14 of her 28 starts she has won over $50,000 in stake money and is considered one of the best one turn chasers in Victoria so it will be great to see how she handles Angle Park.
GRSA will post vision of the trial on the GRSA Facebook site after she has competed.

TAB SA MATCH RACE SERIES – CLOSE MONDAY, 21ST SEPTEMBER
Due to border restrictions the normal State of Origin Match Race series (SA V VIC) has been postponed for 2020.
Instead SA will still run a Match Race series on Thursday, 24th September for the best greyhounds nominated. The Graders decision will be final and he will use all information available for him to select the “Best” greyhounds nominated. Trainers are encouraged to nominate and also provide an alternate preference if not selected.
Conditions -
• 515m Special Event - No Penalties Apply • Best 8 greyhounds in match race conditions
• 4 match races worth $2,500 - $3,250 each (runner-up $350) with overall winner receiving $5,000, 2nd place $1,430 and 3rd place $715.
- Nominations close Monday, 21st September at 9am.
The head to head matches will be decided based on the final listing and nominations. Match 1 will be 1 v 4, Match 2 will be 2 v 3, Match 3 will be 5 v 8 and Match 4 will be 6 v 7. The Grader will then have to randomly draw the boxes (1 or 3) that each greyhound starts from. The most prizemoney will be allocated to the highest rated match.
GRSA will also have exclusive footage from inside the boxes of the greyhounds which has been a real highlight in past years.
GRSA conducted the Eastar Match Race series in April where Alfieri won for Bill Wudarczyk in a sizzling 29.54. As part of that series, for winning, Alfieri would be guaranteed a spot as an SA representative in the State Of Origin. Whilst that series has been postponed GRSA will honour this condition with accepting Alfieri as one of the 8 greyhounds for the SA Match Race series so long as he is nominated.
GRSA will continue the condition that the overall winner of the SA Match Race series will be guaranteed a spot in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup on Friday, 9th October.
BUBBLE FOR MT GAMBIER

Trainers who fall within the radius and have obtained approval from SAPOL are required to supply GRSA with the approval. Upon receipt GRSA will accept nominations from the trainer for Mt Gambier meetings only. All approvals are from SAPOL and GRSA will accept their direction.
SATURDAY MORNING FORTNIGHTLY MEETINGS
We recently introduced the fortnightly Saturday morning meeting at Angle Park.
To accommodate this meeting through our weekly schedule we made some changes to the amount of races run during and after this meeting at other venues. We have also made the Saturday morning meetings Time Graded with alternate conditions as this is the biggest group or greyhounds, with programming crucial to accommodate the weekly schedule. There is a meeting drawn for this Saturday with the first of 10 races to start at 8.52am and the last of 10 at 11.22am. This meeting has 4 Heats of the 1-4 win Time Graded over the 388m with the greyhounds running the fastest times in the Heats, regardless of their finishing position in those Heats qualifying for a $1,230 Final at Angle Park on Monday, 26th September.
