Angle Park Preview - 16th September 2021
Your preview of a big night's racing here at Headquarters from The Dogs Form filling in for The Shadow this week!
Race 1 - Fascinating start for Oaks/Derby night. FANTASTIC RADLEY (5) will bring a stack of hype and rightly so, his first prep here was outstanding. He's a middle tracker so #5 should be alright. VICTA HAYDN (8) was HUGE l/s, but this is a step up from grade 6 company... although he's a jet. FORTE NERO (3) is going well.
Race 2 - Guessing game with 4 x newbies. Will go with SPRINGVALE REX (4) who comes from a promising litter. The dog outside is a long strider who will struggle with this circuit, so Rex should get room. Rare debutant for the camp in ASTON CARLOS (8), but the kennel is going well, although box 8 on debut is an ask. GARRY'S CHAOS (1) will likely have ability.
Race 3 - Decent race this with the outside two set to fight it out. Quite confident INFLUENCER (8) can lead all the way here. Two great wins before luckless Derby run and a learning experience thereafter. Just needs to get over from #8. SPRING CROSSING (7) is clearly the danger and beat home the #8, but lacks acceleration. POCKET BOY (5) will go well too.
Race 4 - Absolute belter this with probably all of these heading for an ADL Cup tilt. STOUT MONELLI (1) would be stoked with the red, he's a genuine A grader and will be tough to roll. RUSHES (4) is going terrific and the 5 dog field helps him. JACK'S WELL (6) is just a wicked dog, 25 wins from 45 and the spell may have done him a world of good.
Race 5 - Tough race with many dogs in good touch. I will put some trust in the camp with DANYO'S CHARLIE (4), is 3 weeks into this so maybe an excuse for his last run. He can tag the speed dogs underneath and be right there. WITHERS MONELLI (2) is the likely leader and would be hard to catch. FUNAMBULIST (5) was a terrific effort last start covering ground.
Race 6 - Solid edition of the Oaks and an intriguing box draw! Playing the value with SPRINGVALE MADDI (2), just think she could grip on after she finds the fence. MALLEE DREAMER (3) has to be in the numbers after last weeks effort... The chances don't end there though!
Race 7 - FLY FOR TRIX (8) was brilliant in his first up run back in SA last week, nearly rolling Stout Monelli, who will be fave in the FFA. Just needs to handle box 8 with a bit of speed down low, but he's classy and will. MY NAME'S CRAIG (1) was a really good run last and will go very well from the red. ALL SHOW (3) can also land forward and go close.
Race 8 - Match race for this Derby final. If it's not the faves then I have no idea! CAME AND WENT (1) is just getting better and better! Looks be Troy's new kennel star and this is his to lose. If he steps and goes I just can't see how GEMTREE MAXIMUS (3) could get past him. I'll stick DEADLY MAMBA (6) in for third, great run in the heat showing strength.
Race 9 - Have been following ASTON ODYSSEY (1) with interest lately! good again last week when a stiff second. Has to contend with some pace and likely a few bums tonight, but is strong! VICTA SAIGE (2) is desperate for the fence and should cross the red to get there. She's better than last weeks effort. HARBORING (8) can cross and be on speed early.
Race 10 - Even race but quietly confident that VICTA KURT (4) can get the job done. Same race from last week as many of these but thought he was the best run of the lot. Can cross the inside pair and from the lead he would take some stitching. DARK TIDES (5) should get a cart over and same with TIDELANDS (7) who would land in a winnable position.
Race 11 - Quality race this and plenty of reasons to back a few! Will go with COORONG CASH (2) who comes here after a little freshen up. Just gets so much room to go through his gears which gives him every hope. SHAVANO (5) is way too good to leave out and the camp is astute, so backing them in with him on the two turns. VICTA REID (8) will surely improve.
Race 12 - Looks an obvious match race here with the two dogs drawn wide. Pretty confident we go home a winner and DEFY (7) can lead these. If he does then it really should be race over. HOT SPARTAN (8) is the clear danger and did lead Defy on merit two back, but now draws outside him which hurts. YANDERRA EVIE (3) to fill the minors.
The Boy from the Bush gives his selections for tonight’s super night of racing at Angle Park tonight.

TAB MATCH RACE CHALLENGE – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS
– NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY (20TH SEPTEMBER)
South Australia will again conduct the annual Match Race Challenge next month, held on Thursday, 23rd September during the rich Adelaide Cup Carnival.
Previously conducted as a State of Origin Series between SA and Victorian greyhounds, current Covid-19 restrictions have again forced a rethink for the event in 2021, which was temporarily changed to an SA trained event last year for the same reasons.
After liaising with GRV and noting the current border restrictions that are likely to remain in place for some time, the linking of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup with Victorian events (Group 1 Topgun and Group 2 Shootout) will not occur in 2021.
To ensure that Angle Park TAB Match Race Challenge attracts the best greyhounds possible, GRSA has altered the conditions of the series to be “SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS”. It will be a similar format to the previous State of Origin concept; however, the four (4) SA greyhounds will take on the four (4) best nominated greyhounds from anywhere in Australia.
This will provide another exciting dimension in what has proven to be a very successful format. With Covid-19 restrictions and border closures in place across Australia, opening up the series to all states (including Victoria) ensures the series will be conducted with a high-quality field.
Despite the removal of links to key Victorian races, GRSA will still guarantee the winner of the TAB Match Race Challenge direct entry into the $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Adelaide Cup Final on Friday, 8th October (bypassing the Adelaide Cup Heats).
Nominations close at 9am on Monday, 20th September with GRSA.
Conditions of the TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS:
The TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS, between South Australia and the All-Stars from the rest of Australia, will be held at the new Angle Park track on Thursday, 23rd September.
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or All-Stars will be based around the National Championships domiciliary clause. Greyhounds need to be trained in the state they wish to represent for 76 days out of the last 150 days prior to the date of the race (23rd September).
The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from SA will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “SA’s Best”. The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from Interstate will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “the All-Stars”.
The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds including liaising with other State bodies as required. The SA Grader’s decision will be final.
Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared, with one (1) from SA and one (1) from Interstate (dependant on nominations), which will replace the SA or All-Stars representative as required. For example the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.
The Grader will rate the four (4) greyhounds from SA and the four (4) from Interstate in order from 1 to 4, with No.1 being the highest rated greyhound from each group. The head-to-head matches will be decided by the two No.1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.
Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect the seeding of greyhounds from 1 to 4, with the No.1 rated greyhound’s racing for the most prizemoney in the head-to-head races. However, the overall winner of the race will still be determined on actual race times run by each greyhound (to three decimal places).
PRIZEMONEY:
Prizemoney for each pairing:
· 1 v 1 – Winner $4,750, Runner Up $500
· 2 v 2 – Winner $4,500, Runner Up $500
· 3 v 3 – Winner $4,250, Runner Up $500
· 4 v 4 – Winner $4,000, Runner Up $500
Prizemoney for the overall placings for TAB Match Race Challenge (based on overall times):
· 1st – $7,500
· 2nd – $2,500
· 3rd – $1,000
This year, with various borders closures impacting travel to SA and some states in lockdown, GRSA has determined that we be guided by SA Government advice for travel from each state.
If trainers from certain states can freely enter SA, GRSA will accept their nomination without further investigation. If trainers from states in lockdown or are subject to travel restrictions from entering SA, GRSA will accept their nomination only if they have approval from GRSA Stewards regarding:
1. Where the greyhound will be kennelled in SA
2. Who will have authority for the greyhound whilst in SA
3. Evidence that the greyhound is travelling to SA by an approved freight company
Upon GRSA Stewards approval, these greyhounds can remain in the Interstate trainer’s name whilst they compete in SA feature events. This will be subject to review and change dependent on updated SA Government advice.

MOUNT GAMBIER CROSS BORDER BUBBLE AT 70KM
We advise that the SA Government still have a 70km cross border bubble, therefore, only those trainers from Victoria with that exemption will have nominations accepted for upcoming Mt Gambier meetings, however, these directions do change regularly.
GRSA would be hopeful this changes soon to allow more of our Victorian friends across to support the South East venue. In the meantime the Club have been very appreciative of the support from the local trainers and those from Metro Adelaide ensuring none of their meetings have lost.
DAISH IRRIGATION & FODDER VOUCHERS FOR MURRAY BRIDGE
The Murray Bridge GRC has been able to secure some $100 vouchers from their sponsor Daish Irrigation & Fodder to be used on Heat and Final series’ over the next 12 months. In the All Tracks calendar these races will be highlighted which is a terrific initiative of the Murray Bridge GRC.
