How good was last Friday nights racing, it was certainly top class. Well done to the Troy Murray kennel on winning the Cup final with Golden Night. We must also congratulate Lauren Harris with her win with Shadow Mist at Wentworth Park last week, he has drawn box 1 in this Fridays Million Dollar Chase, so fingers crossed. We need to back a couple of early winners on tonight’s 11 event programme so we can have money to play with later in the night. As usual all races are Trifecta and First Four events.
Race 1 - Power Stone saluted for us at his past two at this venue, he is in superb form for Steven Brook and he looks very hard to beat again. Low Flying Crow found early trouble here last start, he is a chance here at each way odds. Add Sweet On Me for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.4.5.7
Race 2 - With only the four runners in this we will go with the newcomer Time Wise from the Cameron Butcher kennel, the well-bred youngster should be hard to beat on debut. Allegra loves to run a place and is the danger. Box Up 1.2.4.6
Race 3 - This is a wide open affair and I like one in this at each way odds in Rogue Planet, he is a tardy beginner who has handy Gawler form, he makes his city debut tonight and is worth a wager. Cripps Dusty is more than capable of running a cheeky race with early luck. Halfeti Rose and Nockatunga are close to a win. Box Up 1.4.7.8
Race 4 - Danyo’s Charlie had to be content with a 2nd here last week when well beaten by Aston Silk, he has the pace to lead here and should go very close. American Man flew late here last week at big odds, he will go very close if he can be with striking distance down the back. It’s A Riot is another who will be in the finish, he has the pace from the rails draw and is a must for our Trifecta. Box Up 2.4.7.8
Race 5 - The box draw brings Cawbourne Scar right into this, he won from this draw four starts back in good time and looks the one to beat. Hot Zorro has been placed in three of his past four, he has good box manners and can run into the placings once again. Woodside Zulu and Fabs You Go for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.7
Race 6 - Call Me Billy led everywhere bar the line last week when 2nd behind Victa Boris in 29.83, he likes to track wide but should be able to hold them in the run to the 1st turn. Zipping Ted is very strong, he is back in grade and a win wouldn’t surprise. Sky Wesley is our value runner for our Trifecta, he has been racing in terrific form of late and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 1.2.4.7
Race 7 - The inside three appear the main chances in this and we will go with the well-drawn Fantastic Shell down in box one, she won here two runs back in 29.70 and should prove very hard to beat again. Slick Riot won well at Murray Bridge last start over the short in slick time and must be kept safe. Threaten will be making late ground. Box up 1.2.4.7
Race 8 - This is a strong 600m event and it’s hard to go past Defy who has been over the sprint in recent runs, he has a fantastic strike rate over this trip so we will put him on top. Rajasthan has won all three over this distance and is a must for our trifecta along with Cawbourne Madox who was good over the 600m last week. Box Up 2.5.7.8
Race 9 - There is a bit of early pace from the inside brigade so we will have a crack with Allinga Chloe, she has been runner up here at her past two starts but from the rails she might be able to take the early lead. Rugged And Ready has been in good form also, he was a solid 3rd here last start and is amongst the chances. Shamrock Lava can improve and run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.4.5
Race 10 - This is the distance affair of the night and Sir Truculent continued his good form when winning the Premiers Cup here last week by over 10 lengths in 42.86, he is by far the best stayer here in SA and he should win again and be very skinny odds. Angry trip and the pacey Miss Takiri for the minors. 1 from 3.7
Race 11 - The Troy Murray kennel had a terrific night here last week and they can send us home on a winning note with Private out in box 8, he won from this draw last start over the short here in quick time and should be cherry ripe for this. Mercedes Monelli was an eye catching run when 2nd and made good late ground so she is a must for our top three. Box up 1.2.4.8

2020 GAWLER CUP CARNIVAL KICKS OF TOMORROW
The Gawler Gold Cup carnival will be run over four meetings this year. The Gawler GRC has been in consultation with the Thoroughbreds and Harness Racing in the region and has made a mini carnival with all three codes running their main races for the year around the same time. It does mean however the series for the greyhound’s kicks of a week earlier than normal and extends to four meetings.
The carnival will kick off tomorrow, Friday, 16th October with three Heats of the Gawler Sprint Classic for open 400m greyhounds. The Final will be worth $5,715 and will be run on Gawler Gold Cup night, Sunday 25th October.
All Feature Finals will be 8 dog events.
On Monday night, 19th October there will be four $2,290 Heats for the Group 3 Gawler Gold Cup run over the 531m. The meeting will be run as a night Prov 1 meeting swapping with Angle Park which will run their City B meeting on Tuesday during the day.
The first two placegetters from each heat will qualify for the final with the Box Draw being conducted on Monday night at Gawler.
The Group 3 Gawler Cup Final will be run on Sunday night, 25th October worth $26,500 in prizemoney with the winner to receive around $17,000. This night will include the Gawler Sprint Classic Final and there will be a Consolation for the Gawler Gold Cup. To add to this feature night there will be the $2,075 Heats of the Gawler Stayers Cup for open 643m greyhounds.
The $6,830 Final of the Gawler Stayers Cup will be run on Friday, 30th October along with the Gawler Anniversary Cup over the 531m rounding out the outstanding four meetings of racing.

STAR SA SPRINTER SHADOW MIST CHASING 1 MILLION DOLLARS TOMORROW NIGHT
Being based at Finniss, approximately 1 hour South of Adelaide you would think that trainer Lauren Harris would be able to go about her business pretty much unnoticed however when you have just qualified your star sprinter Shadow Mist in the 1 Million Dollar Chase Final at Wentworth Park tomorrow night there’s certainly more attention than normal.
And why wouldn’t there be? Shadow Mist won his semi final last Friday night in very impressive fashion. He ran the fastest first split of any of the semi final winners, he also ran the fastest second split off the back straight and qualified in the second fastest time overall running a brilliant 29.64 for the 520m journey. He has drawn box 1 in the final which is a box he has been most successful from winning 6 races from 12 starts from the red. Shadow Mist sits equal on the second line of betting with Flying Ricardo (box 3) which has won 14 of his 16 starts, both just behind star WA Chaser Tommy Shelby (box 8) which qualified the fastest for the series running a sizzling 29.58.
If we could crystal ball the way the race was to be run, we like Shadow Mist to begin nicely from the red, challenged by Flying Ricardo who likes to sit of the rails with Tommy Shelby sweeping down the outside to challenge. However Shadow Mist burrows through the inside and holds them all out taking control into the back straight and from there if he runs up to expectation the dream could well be a reality.
Shadow Mist, Lauren and her partner Ryan Tugwell have helped to push SA greyhound racing into the National spotlight by allowing all of their supporters to come on this journey with them that hopefully culminates in a win for Shadow Mist against some of the best sprinters in the land.
The Million Dollar Chase Final will be Race 9 tomorrow night to be run at 9.33pm (SA time) at Wentworth Park in NSW with the winner taking home 1 Million dollars.
BOXING FOR FEATURE FINALS
GRSA advised last month that the boxing procedure for feature Heats and Finals will revert back to 2 rows where applicable. GRSA will continue to monitor these processes.
TRIALS AT GAWLER ON MONDAY
There will be trials at Gawler this Monday (19th October) as normal even though Gawler and Angle Park have swapped racing dates on the Monday and Tuesday. Trials will also be at Murray Bridge as normal on Tuesday night.
STRAIGHT TRACK TRIALS TO BE INCLUDED ON TUESDAY NIGHTS AT MURRAY BRIDGE
GRSA will now start trialling on the Straight Track at Murray Bridge on Tuesday nights. This will provide an opportunity for those trainers wishing to nominate for the Wednesday meetings. Trials on Tuesday night will start at 5.30pm with Straight Track trials, no bookings required. The One Turn circle will NOW start at 6.30pm, with bookings required as normal.
It is encouraged for trainers wishing to race on Wednesday that they consider trialling first down the straight.
SATURDAY MORNING FORTNIGHTLY MEETINGS
We recently introduced the fortnightly Saturday morning meeting at Angle Park and to accommodate this meeting through our weekly schedule we made some changes to the number of races run during and after this meeting at other venues. We have changed to all G-Six except for feature and specific races, moved the Wednesday meetings to be back to back Straight track and then Angle Park on a three week rotation.
We have also made the Saturday morning meetings Time Graded with alternate conditions as this is the biggest group or greyhounds, with programming crucial to accommodate the weekly schedule.
There is a meeting on Saturday, 17th October –
Timed Graded Meeting - “Best to Worst” 5 rating or slower. Greyhounds graded into three categories; Maidens, 1-4 wins & 5 or more wins. Specific grades of greyhounds are not considered except for Maidens. Races–N/P with Pathway Prizemoney. Reserves will be determined by Grader. There will be No Guarding. Refer to “Time Based Grading” published conditions. Best to Worst with similar conditions as Worst to Best. If rated faster than 5 ineligible.
The next meeting will be on Saturday, 31st October –
Timed Graded Meeting-“Worst to Best” rating. Greyhounds graded into 3 categories; Maidens, 1-4 wins & 5 or more wins. Specific grades of greyhounds are not considered except for Maidens. LEIGH ROGERS GRADE 6 FEATURE
The Leigh Rogers Grade 6 feature will be run over the 515m journey with $2,985 Heats on Thursday, 29th October and the $8,580 Final on Thursday, 5th November.
Nominations for the Heats close with GRSA at 9.00am on Monday, 26th October.
GRSA introduced this race onto the feature race calendar three years ago in recognition of former long-time Food and Beverage Manager, Leigh Rogers, who lost his battle with a rare form of cancer four years ago. Leigh is the husband of Rachel and father of three young girls and it will be great to see them back on course in recognition of Leigh.
BRIAN JOHNSTONE HEATS
Following the 2020 Gawler Classic and both the Classic 2020 Preludes with the Final of Prelude (2) on Thursday, 22nd October, attention will swing to the rich Brian Johnstone Series. The Group 3 series is the main event of the Classic 2020 Futurity.
The Heats for the Brian Johnstone will be run on Wednesday, 11th November at Angle Park, followed by the Semi- Finals on Thursday, 19th November and the $37,500 Final on Thursday, 26th November.
Nominations for the Heats close with GRSA at 9.00am on Friday, 6th November.
277M FOR MT GAMBIER UNTIL 305M INSTALLED
After consultation with the Mount Gambier GRC, GRSA have approved the re-introduction of 277m effective immediately, however, they will cease when a new distance of 305m is made available, hopefully by the middle of November. The Club believes a short course distance will assist their greyhound numbers in the region and allow the Club to continue to meet nomination requirements.
There will only be two 277m races introduced effective immediately, one for young Maiden greyhounds with the youngest greyhounds gaining entry first based on age. There will also be a Masters 277m with eligible greyhounds being selected on age with the oldest given first preference. Masters conditions will be the same as races conducted in the Metro area with greyhounds 3¾ years and above eligible.
GRSA strongly recommends trainers nominate for multiple distances to ensure they do not miss out on a run at the meeting.
BUBBLE FOR MT GAMBIER NOW 70KM
Recently SAPOL advised that a “Bubble” has been created with Victoria for cross-border movements allowing those who fall within a 70km radius entry into SA under specific criteria. Trainers who fall within the radius and have obtained approval from SAPOL are required to supply GRSA with the approval. Upon receipt GRSA will accept nominations from the trainer for Mount Gambier meetings only. All approvals are from SAPOL and GRSA will accept their direction.

Approved beanies are now part of the GRSA Dress Code Policy and available for sale from GRSA. These beanies are GRSA specific and are the only ones approved. They cost $10 and are available the GRSA racing office.
