TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

The feature of tonight’s racing is the strong SA Owned Grade 5 final (race8), it has certainly turned out a very strong event. We also have a more than handy 731m on the programme and a mixed 600m that has a heap of chances. All races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We can kick start the night with a wager on Two Times Twice from the Rawlings kennel, he has been in very good form of late and with his early pace should go very close. Up Time Girl is another who has good box speed and will be right in the finish. Chief’s Sidekick has been down on form at his past couple but is capable of a sharp improvement. Box Up 1.3.6.7

Race 2 - The Ben Rawlings kennel could get an early double with Silent Jacko, he is well drawn tonight with a slow beginner on his inside looks the likely leader. Irapsag Miss was very disappointing here last start, she is better than that run and can’t be overlooked, add Tornado Alley for big value. Box Up 2.3.4.7

Race 3 - This is the Distance event of the night and the Wally Harkins Sir Truculent will start the very short price favourite and he should on his recent form, he won the Stayers final here last week in terrific fashion, he is a true stayer and just wins again. Couture steps up to the 731m tonight and has been running on strongly in recent runs, he is a Trifecta hope along with Five Thirty. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 4 - Tony’s Spark is well drawn in this, he is back in grade tonight and should find this a lot easier than his past couple, expect a big improvement in this. We tipped Sprite Monelli here at his 1st start last week and he charged home late to run an eye catching 2nd, he should only improve and we will stick with again. Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 5 - The 600m racing in recent weeks has been 1st class and this is no different as there are a heap of chances once again. Double By Design is in outstanding form of late with 3 wins on the trot here all in good fashion, she has the pace to lead again and is very strong in the run home. Cairnlea Ebony will appreciate the extra distance, she has been running on late over the sprint and is the big danger in this. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 6 - Make sure you have a Trifecta and First Four in this as there is at least 6 chances, Danyo’s Rosie has strong Murray Bridge form and is making her city debut, she looks to be a very handy type and is amongst the main chances. Fantastic Flame only needs early luck to be right in the mix. Lose Your Blues will be thundering home and Cawbourne Coco was a solid 2nd here at her latest effort. Box Up 1.3.4.5

Race 7 - My roughie of the night is in this and we will go with Sun Wukong, he is a very tardy beginner but from a better draw tonight and with a lot of luck might be a little closer when they turn into the back and be there in the finish. Cawbourne Cooper can improve along with Songs An Stories. Box Up 3.4.7.8

Race 8 - This is the FINAL of the SA Owned and we will go with Little Earner once again, she pinged the lids here last week only to be mowed down by the inform Holy Reign, both these runners are amongst the main chances again. Fantastic Reef has a perfect record of 6 from 6 at this venue, Barry Stewart has him high flying and he is very strong. Fantastic Pippa is a must for the First Four. Box Up 3.5.6.7

Race 9 - Danyo’s Charlie has terrific box manners and has won his last 3 all in quick times, he will start the punters elect again. Spring Vinnie has been racing well without winning, he can be hit and miss on box rise and will be charging home late, the small field is right in his favour. Box up 2.5.7.8

Race 10 - American Man hasn’t had a lot of luck here in recent starts but his last win here was from a wide draw as he loves to scout wide in his races, he can hopefully get a clear run early and would take beating. Miss Bellawood has been placed at Murray Bridge at her past couple, she is very smart when on song and is drawn for a bold showing, add Patrick Francis and Tyson’s Choice for the minors. Box up 2.5.7.8

SA FLAVOUR IN SAPPHIRE CROWN TONIGHT

Tonight’s Group 1 Sapphire Crown at Sandown will have some SA flavour with SA owned chaser Spring Fair drawing box 3 in the final after a fantastic 29.63 win last week's heat.

Bred by Greg Board Spring Fair shows terrific early pace and box 3 gives her a good chance in a strong field which also includes another SA owned chaser Aston Silk. Coming second to Spring Fair in last week's heat for SA's Ray Borda, Aston Silk has been flying for trainer Jason Thompson of late and will jump from the middle in box 5 next to favourite Black Opium. The final is at 7:13pm (SA time) and good luck to all connections.

MURRAY BRIDGE TRACK MAINTENANCE THIS WEEK

Trainers should note that both track surfaces at Murray Bridge will receive a top up of sand and a medium harrow this week (straight track on Tuesday, 1-turn track yesterday).

It is expected that both surfaces will be in a ‘normal’ condition in time for the trial session on tomorrow (Friday (15/5).

CHANGES TO NOMINATION CLOSING TIMES

Based on items discussed and approved at the most recent Industry Consultative Group, GRSA has changed some of the days of closing of nominations to aid participants which trial the night before they nominate.

This will hopefully increase our numbers for race meetings resulting in less extension of nominations. Moving the nominations closer to the race date may have implications for the sa.thedogs form analyst releasing as quick as normal.

Below is the table based on a normal week of racing in SA with changes highlighted -

Nominations close 9am on Monday – Angle Park Thursday (no change)

– Mt Gambier Thursday (no change)

Nominations close 9am on Tuesday – Gawler Friday (moves from Monday)

                                                 - Mt Gambier Sunday (no change)

Nominations close 9am on Wednesday – Murray Bridge Sunday (moves from Tuesday)

Nominations close 9am on Thursday – Angle Park Monday (moves from Wednesday)

-   Gawler Tuesday (no change)

Nominations close 9am on Friday – Angle Park or Murray Bridge Straight Track (no change)

ADMINISTRATION TIME CHANGES

As part of the changes previously advised by GRSA during the COVID-19 pandemic, GRSA have altered their Administration Business hours.

Normal Business hours would be  8.30am to 4.30pm, however, from Monday, 4th May these have varied to 8.30am to 3.30pm during this period.  This change is part of GRSA’s strategy to reduce costs where it can; in order to help alleviate the downturn in business income.

This will have an effect on scratching closing times and trials being booked. Both will now close at 3pm when they would have normally closed at 4.00pm.

Access to the Office and Telephone calls will only be available up until 3.30pm from Monday to Friday.

This will also have some implications on race books with the change in nomination times and early closing of the office there will only be a one page per race book provided which will also save on costs during this period. All information is still available on the GRSA website.

Due to the reduction in office hours participants need to be mindful when lodging paperwork that the processing time may take longer.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during these challenging times.

SCRATCHINGS FOR THOSE MEETINGS THAT CLOSED 4PM THE DAY BEFORE WILL NOW BE 3PM

As advised above trainers please note that scratching’s for ALL meetings that would have closed at 4pm the day before will now close at 3pm the day before.

MURRAY BRIDGE TRIALS

GRSA advise that from March there will no longer be an officiating staff available to clear greyhounds for Satisfactory trials and Qualifying Qualy trials on the fortnightly Tuesday nights at Murray Bridge.

GRSA will send an official to Murray Bridge on a monthly basis on a Friday morning trial session, which has both tracks trialling. This presents an opportunity to also include the Straight Track for Qualifying and Satisfactory Trials. The next trial session will be Friday, 15th May

NON-ESSENTIAL PERSONS ONCOURSE AT RACE MEETINGS

GRSA reminds participants with children that due to the COVID-19 restrictions non essential persons and the public are not allowed oncourse which includes children.

Unfortunately during school holidays this can be difficult for some of our participants to manage however they need to make other arrangements for them.

GRSA appreciates the significant changes in place for the industry during this time and appreciates the efforts that are being made and continue to be made to abide due social distancing and restrictions.
