 ANGLE PARK PREVIEW - 14th January 2021

TELLING THE TAIL

By The Shadow

Tonight, we have a 12-event programme and the highlight is the running of the 2021 SA Sprint Championship, race 8 on the card and it certainly is a high-quality affair with plenty of chances. We also have 4 heats of the John Gray, this is a feature for grade 5 runners and it will make for a very interesting final here at headquarters next week. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We will kick start the night with a newcomer in Raging Redline, he has had only the two starts in Victoria winning both at the Meadows, he is sure to be well tied on his SA debut. Compton Peggy will add some value, she has been racing well down the Mount and is well drawn. Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the evening and we will go with the Gavin Harris trained Zinfandel Dusty down in box 2, he has been placed here at his past couple and should be right in the mix again. No Good Deed is another who has been placed and should only keep improving. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 3 - Spring Driven is our top pick in this, she won here three runs back in 30.12 from a rail draw leading throughout, she looks very hard to beat once again. Stiff Wind is making his SA debut, he has only had the two runs for a win and a place and must be kept safe. Flare To Excel can run into the placings. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 4 - This is the first of the John Gray heats and I like one at each way value, Sentinel McLaren, he is more than capable when on song and gets his chance to be very handy early from the draw. Long Gully Barny is in top form and will start the punters elect, he has a good turn of early pace and has terrific short course form. Springvale Arge can carve out quick times and is another who will be at value. Box up 1.2.3.4

Race 5 - Zipping Sullivan is another to cross the border, he has 20 wins to his credit from 45 starts along with 15 placings, he should prove very hard to beat in the 2nd of the heats. American Man will be running on as usual and can’t be overlooked, add Canya Go Wild for the Trifecta. Box up 1.2.3.5

Race 6 - Like A Librarian has won three of his last four here, he has terrific box speed and should be right in the mix once again. Yarindale is a strong type and carved out a 30.05 win here last start from box 1, he is well drawn again and is certainly a big chance. Threaten and Corryong McLaren for the First Four. Box Up 2.3.4.5

Race 7 - The 600-metre racing in recent weeks has been 1st class and this is no different, Springvale Anna is a huge chance if she gets a clear run early, she can run time but has been hit and miss on lid rise in recent runs. Springvale Shine led them a merry dance from this draw last start for a strong win in 35.10, he looks a major player once again. Box up 2.3.4.5

Race 8 - This is the Final of the 2021 SA Sprint Championships and it carries a $12,000 winners cheque, Coorong Lucy has been very impressive since resuming in December, she won two over the short here in quick times then stepped up here last week over the 515m and won in a slick BON 29.53, she is quick early and looks very hard to beat again. Shadow Mist missed the start and battled on gamely to qualify, he is a lot better than that run and is drawn for a bold showing. Jacks Well is the youngster of the field, he was charging late when 2nd behind Rushes, if there is any trouble up front he could be the Smokey. Box Up 1.2.7.8

Race 9 - The 3rd of the John Gray heats and we will go with Rugged And Ready in this, he wasn’t beaten that far when 3rd here last start, he is on the improve and looks one of the better chances. Lily Pad has terrific Gawler form and is a huge chance as is Zipping Cola. Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 10 - The final of the four heats and Lenny The Jet has his favourite draw tonight and will be very hard to toss, the old fellow is racing well and will be right in the finish. Zipping Trent has handy Vic form and must be kept safe on his SA debut. Classic McLaren is better than his past couple suggests and is worth putting in our First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 11 - With only the four runners here over the journey Line Seeker can bounce back into the winners circle, he won here two runs back in quick time and the small field is a bonus. Good Juan proved his strength with a strong win on debut and is the danger. 5.7.3.1 for 1$

Race 12 - Lets hope we have had a good night on the punt as I’m sending us home on my roughie of the night, Select Hypo, she was doing her best work late when 2nd here at her latest start, she only needs a bit of early luck to be with them down the back. Max Amigo has been racing well at Murray Bridge, he has early toe and cant be left out. Lawrie Road is another with short course form and is a major player. Box Up 2.4.5.8

MOUNT GAMBIER TO RACE TWICE A WEEK FROM JANUARY

With Victorian trainers now eligible to nominate for Mount Gambier this will allow the resumption of two weekly race meetings per week at Mount Gambier, with both Thursday and Sunday meetings being included in the Sky schedule this month.

The Thursday meetings will be Time Graded events (Maidens, 1-4 wins and 5+ wins) with only 400m plus events programmed and the Sunday meetings will be the normal graded meetings with the new 305m distance included under specific conditions.

With the resumption of two weekly meetings from the beginning of January 2021, GRSA has reverted the prizemoney levels at Mount Gambier back to the current Category 3 levels with a movement back to G-SIX across both meetings where possible.

305M START AT MOUNT GAMBIER FROM 24TH JANUARY

It is anticipated that the 305m start will come into effect at Mount Gambier on Sunday, 24th January.

The Club will program Maiden Heats on the 24th over 305m sponsored by Razza Racing, open to all Maiden greyhounds of any age. They will then progress to the Final on Sunday, 31st January with the Club appreciative of the sponsorship.

The Club will then revert back to normal conditions that they had for the 277m for the 305m with -

Only two 305m races on Sundays, one for young Maiden greyhounds with the youngest greyhounds gaining entry first based on age. There will also be a Masters 305m with eligible greyhounds being selected on age with the oldest given first preference. Masters conditions is the same as races conducted in the Metro area with greyhounds 3¾ years and above eligible. (Masters can start on 31st January if sufficient nominations)

GRSA and the Mount Gambier GRC strongly recommend trainers nominate for multiple distances to ensure they do not miss out on a run at any meeting.

It is anticipated the 732m start will be available from 11th February.

Any changes to this schedule will be communicated to the industry via the normal channels.

DOUG PAYNE ON THURSDAY JANUARY 28TH

The $8,580 Doug Payne SA Bred Feature Free For All will be on Thursday, January 28th.

The race is for SA Bred greyhounds only and is Non Penalty.

• Nominations close Monday, 25th January at 9.00am.

CHANGES TO WEIGHTED POINTS SCORE FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Greyhound Racing SA advise changes to the Weighted Point Score Table for SA Grading. Based on the most recent Grading Review Panel meeting the Grading Department have made changes to the points allocation for the WPS.

This is the first part of changes approved by the GRP for implementation and will be effective immediately.

The main changes are –

  • The Maiden points for category CTA, CTB, PR1 have now been slightly increased and tiered
  • All placegetters 7th and 8th are allocated 6th place points to accommodate the mix of G-SIX and 8 – dog Quad racing in SA

Please refer to the updated table on the GRSA website.

GRSA is still working with Ozchase for race classification for Time Graded and Pathway events along with the changes approved for the Order of Preference.

SOME ITEMS FROM GRP

The items below come from the recent Grading Review Panel meeting with an implementation date advised.

There are other items from the meeting that are currently in the process of being changed and an implementation date will then be determined.

Mixed Masters – Grading

It was recommended to the panel that if a Mixed Masters is programmed the Grade 5 dogs will be mixed if there is Grade 4 and Grade 3 dogs linking together like normal grading. If there are Grade 2 and 3 dogs and then Grade 5 dogs only a Grade 5 Masters will be conducted under normal conditions as these cannot be linked. If there is enough to run a high grade Mixed Masters (ie Grade 2/3 & 4) we will do that and not include Grade 5 unless they nominate specifically for this programmed event. Effective immediately

Policy Interstate Greyhounds - Summary of change’s for the greyhounds career

Interstate greyhounds racing in SA for the first time will be Grade 5 at all tracks and distances, unless they meet the following criteria, which would then see them, being upgraded to Grade 4 at all tracks and distances:

  • 5+ metropolitan full stakes wins
  • $75,000 in prizemoney

Interstate greyhounds racing in SA for the first time and meet the following criteria, will be upgraded to Grade 3 at all tracks and distances:

  • Group 1 & 2 winners over a similar distance in the past 6 months

The grader has ultimate discretion in applying the above upgrade rule, and may choose to keep a greyhound at Grade 5 level if one or more of the following apply:

  • The form of the greyhound is poor enough to warrant it remaining at Grade 5
  • The greyhound is a masters greyhound (4yo+)
  • The distance the greyhound is nominating for is outside the greyhound’s normal distance range

Greyhounds that have left SA to race interstate to race for 3 months or more, will be subject to the above upgrade rules upon their return. However any grade that was established at a particular track and distance prior to their departure from SA will be retained in the last 6 months.

This will replace the greyhounds winning a Metro Grade policy for assessment in SA.

This will not affect the Grade 6 policy and the SA Ownership Proof of purchase policy

Effective from nominations closing on Monday 4th January 2021
