TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight here at Headquarters we have a first class night of racing with the State finals of the 2020 National Distance (race 4 ) and the 2020 National Sprint ( race 6 ) both events carry $6,000 to the winner and are certainly races to have a First Four in. There appears to be a couple of good things throughout the evening on the 10 event programme so let’s hope we finish on the right side of the ledger.

Race 1 - Classic McLaren is a smart type who has drawn well down on the fence, he rattled home to score here last start in 30.14 and should prove the one to beat in this. Sweet Waterloo is another who is in form and with her early pace will be right in the mix, add Go Go Dolly who found a heap of trouble here last start. Box Up 1.3.5.7

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and we have tipped her several times in recent weeks and that is Springvale Cher, she has been placed here on 9 occasions from her 14 starts. The small field will enhance her chances as she is slow away and she should be at handy odds. Heckle Me has been placed here at his past couple and looks amongst the main chances. Box up 1.2.7.8

Race 3 - Toora Ziggy proved far to strong here last start when winning in a slick 35.05 by over 2.50L from box 1 he is drawn to kick up again and is our top pick. Defy is a class act and is the BIG danger with early luck he can carve out quick times and will be thundering home, add Major Havoc and West On Bamboo. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 4 - This is the National Distance SA final and it’s very hard to go past Sir Truculent who is returning from a short stint across the border, he was a last start winner at The Meadows over the 600m and was in outstanding form here last month, he certainly is the one to beat. Miss Bellawood looks the likely leader and is a must for our trifecta along with Vontae Mack who has won his past two over this trip in easier company. Box Up 1.3.5.6

Race 5 - Hot Spartan gets his chance tonight to break through, he has been runner up in three of his last four at this track, he has the gun draw and should prove hard to beat. Springvale Issy will be running on, she can be hit and miss on box rise which is her downfall. Lenny The Jet is our value runner he is more than capable with early luck. Box up 1.2.3.6

Race 6 - This is the Final of the 2020 National SA Sprint and Shadow Mist SCORCHED the track here last week when winning by over 9L in 29.33, Lauren Harris has him flying and he should win again. Major Major ran on well to score here last start and can finish amongst the placings. Box Up 4.5.6.8

Race 7 - Bold Mirage is yet to miss a cheque in his eight starts, he has won his last 5 including a BOD at Gawler last start over the 531, he looks the leader and is our top pick. Velocity Bottino is another who is in terrific form, she is well drawn down on the fence and is the danger. Collecting can add some value to the First Four. Box Up 2.3.5.7

Race 8 - The Nicole Price kennel is on fire at the moment and they have a big chance with Lektra Theory in this, he has won 3 of his past 5 all in good fashion and will be hard to beat at good each way odds from a very good draw. Fly For Fun has a good turn of early pace and a win wouldn’t surprise. Maddison Kaye is a class act when on song and her recent Gawler form has been 1st class. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 9 - This is the 2nd of our 600m events tonight and Sweet Rose has the form on the board, she has been in the money at 4 of her last 5 and should be able to lead and pinch this. Yarindale is the improver with a solid run under his belt. Springvale Arge and Victa Norman can figure for the minors. Box Up 2.4.6.8

Race 10 - Dakota Roxy found trouble here last start, she has moderate beginners either side which will be a huge benefit and make her very hard to beat. Sentinel McLaren is a strong type, he can run time and is boxed for a bold showing. Long Gully Wilma and Peter Lee for the first four. Box Up 1.2.7.8

GRADING REVIEW PANEL MAIN OUTCOMES FROM MEETING

MASTERS EVENTS (GRADE 5 AND MIXED) -  For City A, City B and Prov 1 Masters events the greyhounds 4yo and older will be selected on form with the greyhounds between 4 and 3 ¾ still on age. For Masters events conducted at Prov 2 meetings ALL greyhounds will be selected on age.

For the main Masters races which we normally run at the Angle Park Monday and Gawler Friday meetings, these will be on form for 4yo and older and for Gawler Tuesday and Angle Park Wednesday meetings it will be on age.  All other conditions still remain like time standards etc.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

MAIDENS - if there are not 6 or more Maidens nominated, then the race should not be conducted unless specifically needed to make up a program.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

HEATS TO FINALS - Where there are insufficient nominations to run Heats of an advertised event (less than 10 nominations normal events, middle distance and staying events), the event will be conducted as a one-off Final on the date when the Heats were scheduled. If the event is considered a feature event like the Stayers Cup for example or a memorial race, the one-off Final will be conducted on the date of the original Final and a normal graded event conducted at the Heat meeting.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

TIME GRADING

All Time Grading for all clubs in SA to be uniform with groupings (Maiden/1-4 wins/5+ wins).

For Time Grading events when there are two or more races, then the lowest rating time dogs (the fastest dogs for this grouping) are declared the reserves.

If a greyhound is a reserve for a Time Grading event and does not gain a start then they will automatically get a start in the next Time Graded meeting (no matter the track) so long as they are nominated.

Effective from nominations closing on Monday, 20th July 2020.

REMOTE TRAINERS FEE TO ASSIST MOUNT GAMBIER MEETING

With continuing border restrictions affecting participation in the South East due to COVID-19, GRSA have decided to support the Mount Gambier meeting knowing the importance to be racing on a weekly basis during this time.

For those Trainers that live more than 150 kilometres from Mount Gambier and travel to this meeting they will receive an additional $75 payment to their normal Trainers Fee. The fee will be capped at one payment per registered premises and will continue until the borders are open.

2020 MOUNT GAMBIER CARNIVAL TO BE RUN IN AUGUST

The Mount Gambier Cup Carnival has been rescheduled to August, highlighted by the 2020 Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup Final to be run on Sunday 30th August. The Cup is a Group Listed event and will carry $14,275 in total prizemoney ($10,000 to the winner).

The Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup heats will be held on Sunday 23rd August and are open to the best 64 greyhounds nominated (plus reserves). On the same program, the Club will conduct heats of The Produce Store Feature Maiden over 512m.

To support the Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup Final, the event will feature a Consolation Final for greyhounds that competed in the heats (trainers will need to renominate for this event). Other races on the program will include The Produce Store Maiden Final, a Formula 400 Open Feature over 400m and The Tankman 600 Open Feature over 600m.

Nominations for the heats close with GRSA at 9.00am on Tuesday 18th August

Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA), in consultation with the Mt Gambier Greyhound Racing Club, felt it was important to ensure the Cup Carnival was held following its postponement in March due to COVID-19 pandemic. With recent Government announcements confirming longer term restrictions for Victorians entering South Australia, GRSA believed it was the right time to provide clarity and certainty to local participants regarding the 2020 Cup Carnival.

Whilst we had hoped our valued interstate trainers could attend the Carnival, GRSA will only accept nominations from locally trained greyhounds. For clarity, this does not prevent an interstate greyhound being transferred into an SA kennel to target specific feature races.

KINGS AND QUEENS FEATURE HEATS IN AUGUST

Again this year GRSA will conduct the Kings and Queens Feature series with Heats on Thursday, 27th August and a $6,430 Final on Thursday, 3rd September in continued support of any greyhound affected by the change to the GCA Age Restricted Classics change a few years ago.

The eligibility for this series is for dogs and bitches whelped between 1st March 2018 and 31st May 2018.

Performed Maidens are eligible (raced or qualy trialled).

It will be dependent upon nominations, however, we would like to run a dogs Heat and a bitches Heat separately with greyhounds qualifying into the Final. If there are not sufficient nominations for either sex then these Heats may be mixed into a couple of mixed Heats. Special conditions apply, however, these races will be non-penalty.

• Nominations close Monday, 24th August at 9.00am with GRSA.
