TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We have another terrific night of racing ahead of us at headquarters which includes two strong 600m events (races 4 and 5), this is a heat and final for grade 5 runners. We also have a distance affair and we see Sir Truculent return after his run at the Meadows last Saturday night. All races are Trifecta and First Four events and there looks to be a couple of good thing throughout the night.

Race 1 - Long Gully Fred can kick start the night for us, he has a good turn of early pace, he will find this a lot easier than his recent runs behind the classy Fly For Trix and is drawn for a bold showing. Lily Pad has been in the money at her last 5 runs and can run a cheeky race, add Jacks Knight and Fantastic Raven for the First Four. Box Up 2.5.7.8

Race 2 - Rob Harnas looks to have a handy one in Priscilla Wang, the former Victorian was a handy 2nd here on debut behind Sallynoggin in good time late last month, she fronts up tonight and should lead and win. From the Gallery will be the improver, she found a heap of trouble here last start and the small field suits. Adios McLaren can add some value to our Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.6

Race 3 - This is the distance affair of the night and Sir Truculent led them early in the Topgun against the best stayers in Australia and faded to run 5th, he has an outstanding record here at headquarters and will take a power of beating. Angry Trip has won his past two and can figure again along with the pacey Miss Takiri. 8 from 2.4.6.

Race 4 - Rushes is in fine form winning his past two here including a slick BON 29.37 run here last week, running them of their paws, winning by 9 lengths. He steps up to the 600m tonight and looks very hard to beat again. Fantastic Shell is the danger, she has handy sprint form and is a must for our top three. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 5 - This is the 2nd of the 600m and Springvale Issy gets the nod from me, she has been in fine form winning three of her last four all in quick times, she has won over this trip in the past in quick time and is well drawn. Fantastic Pippa led throughout for a smart win over the sprint here last week in 29.79, she is making her 600m debut and is amongst the main chances. Add Dracarys who loves this trip. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 6 - There is certainly a heap of chances in this and I like one at each way odds in Classic McLaren, he has been placed at his last 3 runs including a strong 2nd from this draw behind Toora Ziggy. Bold Mirage is yet to miss a place in his five runs at this venue, he can be hit and miss on lid rise but is a must for our Trifecta. Private and Yenderra Evie for the First Four. Box Up 3.4.6.8

Race 7 - Air Marshall ran 3rd in the Gawler Cup final last start behind Major Major, he has good box speed and gets his chance tonight from the inside draw. Ask Me Now has terrific form of late, he flew late here last start for an eye catching 2nd and will be right in the mix. Buddy Guy and Almighty Stripe for the minors. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 8 - American Man has won his past two at Murray Bridge over the 455m, he is a strong type who gets his chance from the rails draw, he will need to be on the pace early as he likes to track wide. Spring Cuervo resumes from a short let up, he is capable of running quick times when on song and he is certainly amongst the main chances. Emerley Zero loves a wide draw and cant be overlooked. Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 9 - The Rasmussen kennel should have a handy night and they have a big chance with Gold Flyer in this event , she has been in the money at her last 5 and with her early pace she will go very close in this. Allinga Chloe is yet to win here, she has handy Murray Bridge form and is an each way chance from the draw, add Gold Burner who has been racing well at Mount Gambier. Box up 1.2.5.7

Race 10 - Woodside Zulu gets his chance to break through tonight, he flies home in his races but his tardy box manners puts him back in the rough on most occasions, if he can stay out of trouble early he wins. No Knowledge was a good run here last start when 2nd behind Curiouser in 29.93, he has claims from his inside draw. Box Up 1.2.4.5

LOCAL NEWS

BRIAN JOHNSTONE HEATS

At Angle Park yesterday, 11th November we saw the running of four Heats of the 2020 Brian Johnstone (Group 3) series. We had 29 final nominations with the fastest qualifier being Our Boy Wolf for Brenton Prouse running 29.99 in perfect conditions at headquarters.

The results of the Heats were: Heat 1 – Our Boy Wolf (29.99), Heat 2 – Fly For Trix (30.14), Heat 3 – Fly For Fashion (30.04) and Heat 4 – Love And Thunder (30.25).

From these Heats, we come down to two Semi-Finals on Thursday, 19th November with the $37,500 Group 3 Brian Johnstone Final run on Thursday, 26th November 2020.

BOXING FOR FEATURE FINALS

GRSA advised previously that the boxing procedure for feature Heats and Finals (ie SA Derby, Mt Gambier Cup etc) will revert back to 2 rows where applicable.

The topic of boxing for all events is currently being considered by Management; however, the direction from SAPOL has not changed in relation to social distancing though it is reasonable to suggest that changes in this space are close.

NOMINATIONS EXTENDED & CHANGES TO SCHEDULE

Trainers should please note that nominations for the Murray Bridge Straight Track meeting on Tuesday 17th November have been extended until 9.00am tomorrow (13th November).

At the close of nominations GRSA had received just 18 nominations which are insufficient to run a race meeting. Nominations are called for all grades & distances.

GRSA recognises that the low numbers may be caused by the transition to the new racing schedule, which commences next week, with trainers taking time to adjust. However, as was the case with the introduction of Saturday mornings at Angle Park, it is imperative that all meetings are supported equally across the weekly schedule.

To support the schedule, GRSA will (a) revert back to G-SIX for all meetings, and (b) reduce the total number races being conducted at certain meetings, starting with Angle Park Monday and Gawler Wednesday next week. These limitations may be necessary for future meetings to ensure the viability of the whole racing schedule.

GRSA wishes to remind participants that under the Wagering Activity Payment (WAP) stakemoney distribution model, the loss of any race meeting will negatively impact wagering and therefore monthly WAP stakemoney payments. Therefore it is crucial to have the ongoing support of all race meetings across the weekly schedule to maintain wagering revenue.

GRADING REVIEW PANEL MEETING

The next Grading Review Panel meeting will be held at GRSA on Monday, 30th November 2020 at 11.30am.

An agenda will be sent to the panel members shortly with grading related items to be discussed at the meeting.

UPDATED CROSS BORDER DIRECTION – MOUNT GAMBIER

The updated Cross-Border Direction (No. 17) has been released and is now in effect.  This Direction opens free movement to Victorian residents within 70km of the border (that is, no reason needed), but you still need to have your 7-day COVID tests.  You also still need to possess a permit (either the current one or apply for one if you have not done so).

HOWEVER, the new Direction has been re-written to clarify the position of where you can travel into Victoria.   South Australia has effectively quarantined the area 70km both sides of Victoria to cross-border members.  If you now travel more than 70km into Victoria, you can no longer cross into South Australia under the cross-border community member status.  You can still cross but would need to apply under a different entry status.  However, the other options are not suited to a race meeting visit.

What this means is, if you travel into Victoria more than 70km, you cannot rely on your cross-border community member status to then enter SA.  The Direction is unclear on what time frame a Victorian cross border member who travels more than 70km into Victoria is not permitted into SA. Please check with police on this, but it is likely you would need a 12-day COVID negative test cycle (effectively, two 7-day negative tests), before you could cross into SA.  If you went back into Victoria more than 70km, for any reason, you would need to repeat that process before you entered SA.

Please note it is a requirement for ALL participants to ensure they follow SAPOL direction whether it is being required to isolate for 14 days if a return traveller back into SA or staying within the 70km radius for Mt Gambier.

GRSA does not enforce SAPOL direction, however, we will manage as best we can to ensure our participants are abiding by their direction, if participants do not, it will be SAPOL knocking on their door.

We are hopeful these restrictions continue to ease across the State in the coming weeks.
