TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

Tonight’s, racing here at headquarters we have a strong 12 event programme with three heats of the Brian Johnstone over the 530m, they are races 3 to 5 we start the night with a distance affair where we see the return of Lashes Monelli, she has been all class since arriving here in SA with 6 wins from her 7 starts. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We kick off with a distance affair and Lashes Monelli will start a very short price favourite, she has won 6 from 7 here along with a placing, she will be the one to beat again. Porridge Box won here last start when leading throughout and he can pinch a place as can New Year Tears who has been racing well. 1 from 2.4.6

Race 2 - This is a Maiden and I liked the run of Clear View here last week she made good late ground from a wide draw 1st up and should be the improver. Razzle Darryl showed pace at his 1st start and battled on well to run 3rd he is well boxed and is a chance of leading, add Express Speed who has ability but needs to stay out of trouble. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 3 - Earthworm Jim is our top pick here he has been racing well in Victoria with wins at Warragul and Sandown in recent runs, he should be very hard to beat in this. Finniss Flash has transferred to SA and is in the Harris kennel he is another who has handy form and must be kept safe here, add Zinfandel Bart who won his Maiden here last week from rails draw. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 4 - There are several chances here and I have gone with Spring Drama who has won two of his last three here, she is well drawn and has the pace to lead. Zinfandel Nikki has been placed at her last 4 and won prior to that she is amongst the better chances again. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 5 - This is 3rd heat of the Brian Johnstone and Nike Apache has the credentials with placings at Sandown and Warragul and the Meadows in his last four, he has been well supported on each occasion and looks the testing material. Blue By You is back in distance here tonight and will be running on strongly, add Wishing You who is well drawn. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 6 - This is over the 595m and it’s a ripper of a race, I have stuck with Victa Haydn who got the bickies for us last week in good fashion and quick time, he is racing in top form and looks the one to beat again. Jacks Well has been thundering home over the sprint of late he ran 3rd in the Adelaide Cup and is the danger. Barbados Express is drawn to run into the money. Box Up 1.2.3.8

Race 7 - Came And Went was a last start winner at Gawler in a BON he goes well this venue and should be able to lead and win here, the dangers will come from Hot Spartan and See You Smile both have been around the mark and are strong types. Box Up 2.3.6.8

Race 8 - The Rasmussen kennel have been on fire of late and they have George The First racing well, he is drawn to make it a hat trick of wins down in box 1. Victory Chase has pace and can figure again along with Basman who can be hit and miss early. Box Up 1.5.6.8

Race 9 - If you are thinking about having a First Four this is the race to have one as its wide open I have gone for Velocity Fairy here, she has early pace and can hopefully skip away and hold on. Osey Bale was an eye catching run 1st up here in SA when 2nd from a wide draw and she must be respected. Snakebite Diva and Wizardry Things are drawn to run on. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 10 - With only the five runners and a couple of them have good early pace we will go with the well drawn Adele’s Entity down in box 1, she has won 4 from 5 here and can run time. Zipping Walter is another who has good early speed he has won three of his last five and is the danger, add Victa Reid who is well drawn out in 8. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 11 - She’s A Hotshot has been flying the lids of late she was beaten a nose here last week and I expect her to pinch this tonight from the draw. Victa Saige is the main danger she is very strong and will be hard to beat if she gets close early. Jamie Lannister is our value, he is another who is strong and will be rattling home. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 12 - The final event of the night and let’s hope we are in front I have selected Psychotic Babe out in box 8, she has been in the money in 7 of 10 here and can handle the wide draw. Chase The Magic is another who has handy form she has early pace and is a chance of pinching this if able to lead. Spring Crossing is a lot better than form suggests and could be the improver. Box Up 1.2.4.8

GRSA SKY WEEKLY SCHEDULE TO CHANGE FROM 1st DECEMBER 2021

From the start of December, the Sky weekly schedule of greyhound racing in South Australia will change.

The first two Sundays of any month will routinely be scheduled at Murray Bridge with the remaining Sundays being allocated to Gawler. The primary reason for the change is about providing both of those Clubs with an accessible weekly timeslot which helps them to cultivate a strong base of local patronage.

GRSA explored the opportunity that exists to secure a permanent Friday night timeslot on Sky but those plans were curtailed by the existing congestion of meetings in that spot. The model of ‘shared Sundays’ represented the next best solution for a strategy based on community engagement.

The Murray Bridge region is synonymous with racing, and has been the site of the two most significant infrastructure projects undertaken by SA’s thoroughbred and greyhound codes in the past two decades. GRSA expects trainer numbers to continue to grow in the region well into the future, and increasingly so as the traditional (greyhound) training regions to the north of Adelaide experience heightened levels of development. The strategy, as it relates to Murray Bridge, is also partly founded on the fact that the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council is such a proud supporter of local racing opportunities.

The schedule will transition from 1st December 2021, which will allow crowds over the December and Christmas period to enjoy prime-time racing opportunities at each of Gawler, Murray Bridge and Angle Park.

CHANGES TO FEATURE RACE CALENDAR

With the changes to the scheduling this has presented some programming issues for some of our feature races.

GRSA has had to make some changes and alterations to accommodate the program. Below are some highlighted changes –

  • The Murray Bridge Oaks and Derby series will move forward 1 week and will be conducted on Sunday 5th and 12th December. (Maidens are eligible so long as they have raced or qualy trialled)
  • The Gawler Golden Maiden will move from late November and early December to Sunday 16th and 23rd January. It has moved due to Gawler Show the week before, a 5 day break with the final proposed on a Friday and the Murray Bridge Oaks and Derby taking this space.
  • Murray Bridge Cup heats in March will move from Friday 11th to Monday 14th with the final still on Sunday 20th March.
  • Gawler Produce series in June will race on Friday 10th and then Sunday 19th and 26th

All updated calendars for feature races for Angle Park, Gawler and Murray Bridge (Mt Gambier are not affected by the schedule) are available on the GRSA website

CHANGE TO ANGLE PARK SATURDAY IN DECEMBER

Greyhound Racing SA only has one Fortnightly Saturday Morning in December which was programmed on Saturday 11th December with no racing on Saturday 25th December due to Christmas Day.

This would give us a 4 week gap until our next Saturday meeting in January. GRSA has liaised with Racing Queensland who advised that they are prepared to swap their Fortnightly Townsville meeting with ours for Saturday 18th December which will give SA a 3 week gap before and after our Saturday meetings.

Trials will remain on Sunday 12th December due to staffing at Angle Park and trials will now be on Sunday 19th December due to the race meeting. GRSA will update this to industry closer to the dates.

GRSA appreciates the support in regard to this change from Racing Queensland, the Townsville GRC and Sky Racing.

The date changes are listed below -

NATIONAL STRAIGHT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP IN RESCHEDULED 19TH DECEMBER

Racing Queensland advises that The National Straight Track Championship (NSTC) Final has been rescheduled to 19 December 2021 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club. All participating states (GRV, GRNSW, GRSA, and RQ) remain committed to the series.

Interstate qualification will take place at Healesville (GRV), Richmond (GRNSW), and Murray Bridge (GRSA). All state finals will carry prizemoney of $5,000 to the winner.

To coincide with these dates GRSA has reprogrammed the heats to Tuesday 30th November with the state final on Tuesday 7th December

Queensland state qualifying heats will commence on 5 December with the state qualifying final on 12 December.

Two greyhounds from each state will qualify for the NSTC Final at Capalaba worth total prizemoney of $37,500 ($25,000 to the winner).

Whilst there is currently restricted access to Queensland for some parts of Australia, last Monday the Queensland Government announced that it is aiming to allow fully vaccinated interstate travellers to enter Queensland without the need to quarantine from 17 December 2021.

However, if an interstate trainer is unable to travel to Queensland, the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club have advised that interstate-based greyhounds are able to be hosted by Club for the purpose of racing in Final. These arrangements can be made by contacting the Capalaba Club on 07 3390 2772.

Full NSTC series conditions, including eligibility to nominate, are available on the GRSA website.
