TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

We certainly have a good mixture of racing here at headquarters tonight, the Maiden final makes for interesting racing, there was a couple of standout runs last week and they should only be improved. We have 2 events over the Distance and its great to see our staying ranks increasing, and a very strong 600m later in the night. The Open event tonight has a very smart free for all line up in race 5 with Alfieri and Coorong Lucy both engaged, all 7 runners are very capable of carving out slick times on their night.

Race 1 - Lets kick start the night with Good Odds Diana, she has been racing very well at Murray Bridge over the short, she steps up to the 515m tonight and might be able to pinch this. Burning Nitro will be running on as will Christopher Rose. Box Up 2.3.5.8

Race 2 - This is the Maiden final and Snakebite Me was impressive when leading throughout here last start in 30.09, he is boxed for a bold showing again. Springvale Cher lacks early pace, she is a chance from the draw and is worth putting in our Trifecta along with Coorong Nugget who looks to have plenty of ability. Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 3 - There are several chances in this at each way odds, Sutton Daisy is one who broke through here last start leading throughout from box 4 in 30.12, she is well drawn and looks amongst the main chances. Ainsley Flash is a pacey type and is right in the mix again along with Shamrock Lava. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 4 - This is the first of the distance races and its very hard to go past Sir Truculent who is in outstanding form, he has proven to be very versatile with terrific wins over the 600m including last weeks final. He will start very short tonight and should win again. Boom Down and Miss Bellawood for the minors. 6 from 2.4.8 boxed

Race 5 - Coorong Lucy is another who is in terrific form, she has won her last 4 and 3 of them have been in B.O.N including a 29.48 run here last Thursday, she is well drawn again and is our top pick. Alfieri is the big danger, he can be hit and miss on box rise but did win here in a personal best 29.39 three starts back, he is a class act with early luck. Box Up 1.3.6.8

Race 6 - Tricky event this one and my best value runner of the night is Lektra Theory out in box 8, he has been racing well and is well boxed out wide, he is definitely worth having a small wager on. Patrick Francis and Major Major are both strong and will be right in the mix. Box Up 2.3.4.8

Race 7 - Fly For Fun certainly looks well placed tonight to break back into the winner circle, he loves this draw and looks one of the better bets of the night. Up Time Girl won here Monday night in good time, she will need to come out running so she can cross and is worth putting in our Trifectas. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 8 - Blister finally broke through here last week after being well supported for a slick 29.66 win here from box 7, he has handy box manners and is a chance of leading here again. Ask Me Now is very strong and is a must for our Trifecta as is Super Blu, add Little Earner for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 9 - This is the second of the 731m and the two main chances look to be Zipping Galon and No Surrender, both have different racing styles with the later being a front runner and Zipping Galon charging home late. Dashing Mickey can round out our Trifecta at big odds. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 10 - Two Times Twice has been run down at his past couple over this trip by Sir Truculent, he gets his chance to bounce back with moderate beginners around him. American Man and Tammy Parker along with West On Bamboo will be running on and look the dangers. Box Up 1.4.6.8

Race 11 - The Rasmussen kennel normally don’t leave empty handed and Cawbourne Zebra was a handy winner here last start from box 6, he has the early pace to lead again and send us home on a winning note. Vossy and Lose Your Blues are strong types and can figure in the minors. Box Up 1.2.3.6

Best Bets

Race 7 No: 1 - Fly For Fun

Race 10 No: 6 - Two Times Twice

Best Each Way

Race 6 No: 8 - Lektra Theory

LOCAL NEWS

2020 GAWLER BREEDERS FINAL TOMORROW

After three heats for the 2020 Gawler Breeders over the 531m were run last Friday at Gawler we have an excellent final tomorrow.

It will be race 9 on the card due to start at 5.07pm and features heat winners Jabari (30.96), Golly Gumdrops (31.37) and Air Marshall (30.90).

Good luck to all greyhounds and connections.

VIRGINIA MAINTENANCE TODAY AND TOMORROW

Please be advised that work is being carried out at the Virginia Track today and tomorrow in the afternoons.

Could all participants please be mindful if trialing or it is preferred you look to another time.

OLD RACE KENNELS AVAILABLE - GAWLER AND STRATHALBYN

This week Gawler will be the last of the South Australian clubs to take delivery of modern stainless steel race kennels.

The new units will be in place for the race meeting this coming Friday, with the kennel house not being available at tomorrow’s trial due to the changeover.

GRSA will take the old kennel units back to Angle Park on Monday, as they need to be taken off the site at Gawler (given it is a public venue). The maintenance team will take the opportunity to replace some of the old viewing and holding kennels at Angle Park and Virginia.

As was the case with previous kennel upgrades, GRSA is happy to make the old units available for participants on a first come first served basis. This will also include the kennel units at Strathalbyn, which are still currently at that venue, but will be relocated to the Murray Bridge facility in the coming months.

Participants will be required to organise their own transport, however the maintenance team may be able to assist in certain circumstances.

To register your interest in obtaining the old kennels from either Gawler and Strathalbyn, please contact Jackie at admin reception on (08) 8243-7100.

REMOTE TRAINERS FEE TO ASSIST MT GAMBIER MEETING

With continuing border restrictions affecting participation in the South East  due to COVID-19, GRSA have decided to support the Mt Gambier Thursday meeting knowing the importance to be racing on a weekly basis during this time.

For those Trainers that live more than 150 kilometres from Mt Gambier and travel to this meeting they will receive an additional $75 payment to their normal Trainers Fee. The fee will be capped at one payment per registered premises and will continue until the borders are open. Effective for the clubs next programmed meeting on Thursday 18th June 2020.

LICENSE RENEWALS – EXTENDED BY 12 MONTHS

Due to COVID-19 and in support of participation GRSA has decided to extend all license renewals by 12 months.

For Tier 1, 2 & 3 Trainers, Breeders, Owners and Attendants these licenses will now expire on 30th June 2021.

HEATS 2020 GAWLER PRODUCE STAKE – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON TUESDAY

A reminder to all trainers with greyhounds paid up for the Gawler Produce Stake that the Heats will be run on Friday, 19th June. The Semis are listed for Friday, 26th June and the Final will be held on Sunday, 5th July.

The prizemoney breakdowns will be announced after the number of Heats are known, however, the Final is guaranteed at $22,000 and consolation at $2,700.

*Nominations for the Heats close on Tuesday, 16th June with GRSA at 9.00am.*

The winner of the Final is also eligible for an $8,000 bonus if it can win the 2020 Gawler Gold Cup later this year. If the winner of the Gawler Produce is SA Bred there is also a $1,000 SA Bred Bonus.

CLASSIC AND BREEDERS FUTURITY PAYMENTS – DUE ON FRIDAY 19TH JUNE

Owners of SA Bred greyhounds are reminded that the next batch of Futurity payments are due on Friday, 19th June 2020.

The payments due are:

Classic 2020 – Final Payment (Pups born July 18 to December 18)

This payment is for greyhounds for which the first two Sustaining Payments have been made. The Final Payment is $121 per greyhound.

Breeders 2021 – Second Payment (Pups born January 19 to June 19)

This payment is for greyhounds for which the first Sustaining Payment was made last December. The Second Sustaining Payment is $55 per pup or a Final Payment of $121 can be made at this stage.

With regard to the First Payment for Classic 2021 (Pups born July 19 to December 19) GRSA has decided to delay these payments due to the current environment affected by COVID-19.  This series will now only consist of two sustaining payments, First payment of $82.50 ($27.50 + $55) or Final Payment of $121 due Friday, 19th December with the Final Payment due in June 2021 for owners who paid the First Payment in December.

The payments for Classic 2020 and Breeders 2021 are unable to be delayed due to races programmed in August for Classic 2020 and having the First Payments already made for Breeders 2021.

To assist all owners of Futurity eligible pups, reminders will be sent out over the coming days. It is perhaps a good idea to make the payment as soon as you can, so it doesn’t slip your mind and the closing date passes. If you have sold a pup/s we would ask if you can either forward on the information or let Caralyn Fielden know at GRSA and she can follow it up. If you haven’t received a reminder by the end of this month and you think you should have, contact us as soon as possible

MURRAY BRIDGE SUNDAYS TO FINISH AROUND 8PM GOING FORWARD

GRSA advise that we have liaised with Sky Racing regarding the finishing times of Murray Bridge on Sundays recently.

With COVID-19 restrictions in place Sky advised that where possible the meeting will finish around 8pm. This will aid participants returning home locally or travelling.

SCRATCHING DEADLINES AND TRIALS BOOKING CLOSING TO REMAIN AT 3PM

Whilst the Greyhound Racing SA Offices have gone back to closing at 4.30pm the scratching deadlines and trails bookings closing will remain at 3pm to assist the management of these processes.

MURRAY BRIDGE TRIALS

GRSA advise that from March there will no longer be an officiating staff available to clear greyhounds for Satisfactory trials and Qualifying Qualy trials on the fortnightly Tuesday nights at Murray Bridge.

GRSA will send an official to Murray Bridge on a monthly basis on a Friday morning trial session, which has both tracks trialling. This presents an opportunity to also include the Straight Track for Qualifying and Satisfactory Trials. The next trial session will be Friday, 19th June.

NON ESSENTIAL PERSONS ONCOURSE AT RACE MEETINGS

GRSA reminds participants with children that due to the COVID-19 restrictions non essential persons and the public are not allowed oncourse which includes children.

Unfortunately during school holidays this can be difficult for some of our participants to manage however they need to make other arrangements for them.

GRSA appreciates the significant changes in place for the industry during this time and appreciates the efforts that are being made and continue to be made to abide due social distancing and restrictions.
