 ANGLE PARK PREVIEW - 11th February 2021

TELLING THE TAIL

By The Shadow

Tonight’s feature event is the running of the 2021 SA St Leger Final (race 8 ) on the programme after last week’s Semis the main brigade made their way through to tonight’s feature. Jack’s Well and Fly For Trix look to be the main chances along with Canya Go wild and Oakvale Style, all eight runners are a chance with luck and good luck to all connections. Other highlights throughout the evening are the 731m and the open sprint, as always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - Stress The Point has been racing well of late and is in the powerful Nicole Price kennel, he is well drawn and gets his chance to break through here at headquarters. Little Genius has handy short course form and the rise to the 515m is the main worry. Victa Emma has won from this draw in the past and is more than capable on her night. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 2 - This is a wide-open Maiden with several 1st starters, the Corby kennel has two runners in Tidelands and Stranger Tides, the litter mates are sure to be well tried on debut .The Rasmussen kennel has Son Of Haka making his debut and all must be kept safe. Victa Reid was placed here last week and is drawn to improve. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 3 - Victa Mikey struck early trouble after beginning well when unplaced here behind Jacks Well, he has a good turn of pace and is well boxed. Runaway Lad is another who will appreciate this grade and is amongst the main hopes, add Stanley Keeping who ran 2nd here last start when a short price favourite. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 4 - The Judi Hurley kennel can go very close in this with Emerley Zero down in box 1, he won over the short here last start in quick time and is drawn well again tonight. Dissociative has been in the money at his last four runs and can’t be overlooked in this. Hello I’m Jade and My Boy Bean can add value to our First Four. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 5 - Alfieri was a last start winner at Murray Bridge in quick time over the 530m, he has been racing well and is a big chance again if he pings the lids. Chief’s Sidekick and Velocity Dory for the minors. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 6 - The pace should come from Hali’s Girl, she led and was run down by Fly For Trix here last week ,she should find this more to her liking so we will put her on top. Oakvale Blue and Zipping Cola can both improve from their draws, add Cawbourne Zebra who has been in the money in twelve of her 23 runs at this venue. Box Up 1.2.3.7

Race 7 - Shanlyn Charlotte is the inform runner here, she has won her last three all in handy times and looks the one to catch. Classic McLaren is back in grade and I would expect him to improve. American Man and Blister both have ability and can figure in the minors. Box Up 3.4.5.6

Race 8 - This is the Final of the 2021 SA St Leger Final and its hard to go past Jack’s Well who has been in terrific form with two wins in recent starts and charging home on both occasions. Fly For Trix is another who has won three of his last five, he has carved out slick times here in the past and is a major threat. Canya Go Wild has early pace and can show some cheek. Box Up 2.4.6.7

Race 9 - Stella Warning put the form on the board with a good win here in 30.13 from this draw last week, she is racing well and is right in this. Iranian Girl is well drawn, she can be hit and miss early and doing her best work late. Cawbourne Boomer has handy short course form and can’t be overlooked. Box up 1.4.5.7

Race 10 - This is the Distance affair of the night we will go with Line Seeker who has been well travelled of late running in WA with two 2nds in feature event in the west and returned with a good win at Gawler over the 643m, he loves this trip and will take beating. Miss Bellawood is the danger, she won here last week leading all the way and is drawn for a bold showing again. Box Up 1.3.5.7

Race 11 - Shadow Mist can return to the winners circle, he found Rushes too strong here last week when 2nd, he is a class act on his night and is our top pick. Rushes had good support when leading all the way in 30.25 on a heavy track, he continues to bob up at good odds. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 12 - We end the night with a 600m event, Major Havoc is well drawn and looks one of the main chances, his big problem is his box manners, he can carve out quick times when on song. Power Burner and Diorite Fire are right in the mix. Box Up 1.2.6.8

G-SIX IN RACE NAMES

GRSA over the past few years have been highlighting the G-SIX races in the race names, however, this can have an effect on sponsors names, heat and final titles in the race book and on the website being cut off.

With it accepted that GRSA runs a mixture of 6 dog fields and 8 dog fields generally we will remove the G-SIX from the race name.

LAUNCHING PAD SA SERIES BEGINS ON 25TH FEBRUARY

Again this year the Sandown GRC offered sweepstakes tickets into the rich Launching Pad Series.

There are special conditions on the race, being for greyhounds that have won between 1 and 6 races and have not had more than 30 starts at close of their nominations.

The Heats will be run at Sandown over the 515m on Thursday, 18th March with the Semi-Finals on Thursday, 25th March with the $150,000 to the winner Final run on Thursday, 1st April. Greyhound Racing SA was able to secure a ticket and will give one greyhound the opportunity to compete in this lucrative series. We will run a Heat and Final series to determine who will make the Launching Pad Heats on 18th March.

Our Heats will be run on Thursday, 25th February over the 515m at Angle Park for greyhounds that have won 1-4 races and no more than 28 starts at close of nominations. The Heats will be worth $3,280 and will be Non Penalty events. The Final will be run at Angle Park on Thursday, 4th March over the 515m with prizemoney of $4,715 and will also be Non Penalty.

The winner of the Final will take their spot in the Launching Pad Heats two weeks later, however, if the winner for whatever reason cannot take their spot then the next qualified greyhound will be given that spot.

GRSA has restricted the series to 1-4 wins and 28 starts incase a greyhound wins both the Heat and Final so this will still keep them eligible. If greyhounds win outside the series this may deem them ineligible for the Sandown series. We have also made our Final two weeks before the Launching Pad Heats at Sandown to give the trainer an opportunity to get across the border and trial for the big race.

• Nominations close with GRSA for the SA Heats at 9am on Monday, 22nd February.

GAWLER BREEDERS 2021 – HEATS IN FEBRUARY

The first part of the Breeders 2021 series kicks off with $1,500 Heats on Sunday, 28th February over the 400m (Short Course).

The $3,000 Final will be run on Sunday, 7th March. For SA Bred greyhounds paid up for Breeders 2021

THE EASTAR – MATCH RACE SERIES AT GAWLER

The local South Australian match race series, nicknamed ‘The Eastar’, will be shifted to Gawler due to the track update of Angle Park, which is expected to be well underway by April 2021.

The series will be held on Easter Sunday night, 4th April over the 531m. A big local crowd is expected for the meeting given the timing of the event and the public holiday the following day.

Greyhounds competing must be South Australian, based on the Nationals Championships conditions, which require greyhounds to be domiciled in the State for at least 76 days of the last 150 days prior to the close of nominations.  Selection for this series will be for the fastest greyhounds nominated, based on their best time over the Gawler 531m distance since 1st October 2020 (regardless of their placing). GRSA will regularly update and publish a leaderboard (top 25), so all trainers and connections are aware of where their greyhound stands up until the close of nominations on Wednesday, 31st March 2021.

There will be two lead up Preludes dates of the Eastar at Gawler. They will be normal graded events over the 531m worth a total of $3,585 (City A prizemoney) with the winner taking a Prov1 penalty. They will be programmed for Sunday, 28th February and Sunday, 21st March with a maximum of 2 preludes per meeting.

The head-to-head matches will be decided based on the final leaderboard, with no manual intervention by the Grader, as per the following:

·       Match 1 – Seed 1 v Seed 4   (1st $2,750 - 2nd $350)
·       Match 2 – Seed 2 v Seed 3   (1st $2,500 - 2nd $350)
·       Match 3 – Seed 5 v Seed 8   (1st $2,250 - 2nd $350)
·       Match 4 – Seed 6 v Seed 7   (1st $2,000 - 2nd $350)

The prizemoney for the overall Eastar placegetters (based on individual times in the match races) will be:

  • 1st $4,500 – 2nd $1,300 – 3rd $650

The overall winner of the Gawler Eastar will be guaranteed a spot in the State of Origin Match race series (SA V Vic) to be held at the newly developed Angle Park track in September, as long as it is nominated and eligible to represent SA. As an added incentive the winner of the State of Origin Match Race Series guarantees itself a spot in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup in October and if successful will be guaranteed a spot in the Group 1 TOPGUN at the Meadows in November.
