TELLING THE TAIL

by The Shadow

Tonight’s 11 event card looks to be one for the punters, they look wide open so let’s hope we can get a bit more value for our efforts. Last week was a battle and with a couple of short price favourites saluting it made it a tough night for all. As always, all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - Gold Flyer is certainly knocking on the door, she has been placed at her last eleven starts and with moderate pace drawn on her inside she gets her chance tonight to finally break through. Free Sebon made his SA debut here last week and missed the start he should only improve and looks a chance. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and we will stick with the Rasmussen kennel again and go with Victa Kurt who is on debut, the well-bred youngster is well drawn and hopefully begins well and stays out of early trouble. Queen Meares is in the Murray kennel, she ran on well at Gawler last start and is worth keeping safe. Spring Driven continues to improve. Box Up 2.4.7.8

Race 3 - You Magic Girl has only has the one win in her 36 career starts but she loves to run a place but she is a chance of pinching this. Barbados Express looks hard to beat for the Rawlings camp. Add Pyrotechnic who has early pace. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 4 - Spring Halo has been working towards a win, she has a terrific record from this draw and is our top pick.  Velocity Dory and Cawbourne Zebra for the Trifecta. Box Up 1. 5.7.8

Race 5 - Under Study charged late but just missed here last start when 2nd behind Rogue Planet, she handles a wide draw and just needs luck early to score. Dashing Mickey failed to beat a runner home here last start, she was in good form prior and is normally strong. Select Hypo is our value runner, she is a chance of leading and would take beating out in front. Box Up 4.5.7.8

Race 6 - This is a wide-open affair and I like Angry Trip who is dropping way back in distance, his recent racing has been over the 731m and he is having his 1st start over the sprint at this venue. Lenny The Jet has been freshened, he is more than capable on his night and has carved out quick times in the past. Hello I’m Jade has handy Gawler form and can’t be overlooked. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 7 - Springvale Issy is my each way special of the night, she ran a very good 4th here three runs back behind Blister after striking early trouble, she is very strong and is drawn for a bold showing. Jacks Well has the form on the board he goes well from a wide draw and is amongst the main chances. American Man is another who will be doing his best work late. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 8 - The Rasmussen kennel look to have another winner with Rushes in this, he trounced them last week when winning by 8 Lengths in the slick time of 29.55, he is drawn for a bold showing once again. Spring Burner has won three of his last five, he is a must for our Trifecta. Blister has been racing well and is another for our top three. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 9 - This is the 600m of the night and Defy has a outstanding record at this track and distance, he should have room to move early and is our top pick. Toora Ziggy was beaten by a nostril by Shadow Burner at his latest start, both those runners are chances again in this. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 10 - With only the four runners over the journey Line Seeker should find the early lead and prove too strong, he has been exceptionally good in his two runs since crossing the border. Miss Bellawood has been hit and miss of late, she is very smart when on the lure and is capable of surprising. 5.1.3.7 for $1

Race 11 - Diorite Fire has had only the two starts since crossing the border both at Gawler over the short, he won there last start and the well-travelled sprinter gets a chance in this. Like A Librarian is another with handy short course form, he is in the Troy Murray kennel and must be respected. Box up 1.2.5.8

LOCAL NEWS

SHADOW MIST IN HOBART FOR GROUP 1 TONIGHT

SA sprint star Shadow Mist will likely start favourite in Heat 2 of the Group 1 Hobart Thousand tonight at Hobart.

Trained by Lauren Harris, Shadow Mist trialled last week in preparations for the series, giving him a good look at the track before the heat where he has drawn box 4 in race 4 due to start at 7.52pm SA time. Connections will be hoping he jumps like he did in his Million Dollar Chase semi-final to get the early edge on a strong field which includes local threat Fabulous Baroque in box 1. The series has attracted some stars of the sport alongside Shadow Mist including Melbourne Cup finalists Tiggerlong Tonk and Tommy Shelby as well as local star Wynburn Sheean, so the scene is set for some great racing on the Apple Isle Thursday night. Good luck to Lauren, Ryan and all connections.

ANGLE PARK SATURDAY MORNING AMMENDED KENNELING TIMES

GRSA advises that due to the first race on Saturday at Angle Park now starting at 9.17pm the kenneling times have changed. It will now be 8am to 8.45am.

BOXING TO REVERT BACK TO NORMAL

GRSA advise with restrictions being lifted quickly in SA that we will revert back to normal boxing procedure for ALL meetings immediately.

This will mean greyhounds will be loaded in two waves for all races. GRSA still reminds trainers about social distancing criteria and advise we could revert back to restricted boxing if the current COVID climate changes.

MURRAY BRIDGE SA BRED SUMMER DERBY AND OAKS FEATURES NEXT FRIDAY

On Friday, 11th December, we were to be running Heats of the 2020 AGRC/Murray Bridge Country Summer Derby and Oaks at Murray Bridge, however, we did not receive sufficient nominations to run two Heats of both series.

We received 6 nominations for the Oaks, so under the current policy we graded these bitches as a Special Event to be run as Race 5 on the program (12.41pm). This is a prelude to the feature the following Friday with all greyhounds needing to renominate if they wish to be considered for the Oaks.

We received 3 nominations for the Derby, so under the policy these dogs are in normal graded events or have elected to wait another week. These greyhounds would also need to renominate for the following Fridays Derby.

Both the Oaks and Derby features will now be open to ALL nominations -

2020 AGRC/Murray Bridge Country Summer Oaks Feature – 455m (SA Bred only. For bitches whelped on or after 1st July, 2018)
Nominations close at 9am with GRSA on Tuesday, 15th December

2020 AGRC/Murray Bridge Country Summer Derby Feature – 455m (SA Bred only. For dogs whelped on or after 1st July, 2018)
Nominations close at 9am with GRSA on Tuesday, 15th December

GRSA thanks the support of the Adelaide Greyhound Racing Club for their continued sponsorship of these feature races at Murray Bridge.

NEWMAN MCDONNELL MEMORIAL TO BE RUN ON 24TH AND 31ST DECEMBER

The Newman McDonnell Memorial Grade 5 over the 512m at Mt Gambier has been reprogrammed.

This series will now be programmed on the 24th December for the Heats and 31st December for the $2,000 Final.

GREYHOUNDS AUSTRALASIA CLOSING OVER CHRISTMAS

GRSA have been advised that the Greyhounds Australasia Office will be closed from 24th December 2020 through to 4th January 2021.

A reminder also that the DNA lab in New Zealand will be closed from the 18th December through to the 4th January. All emails and requests will be actioned upon their return to the office on Monday 4th January 2021.

Please ensure you are aware of the times and that you are prepared during this period.

7AM START FOR ANGLE PARK TRIALS ON SUNDAYS

GRSA advise that when Angle Park trials on Sundays they will now start at 7am instead of 8am with bookings taken as per normal.

CURRENT GRADING OF RACE MEETINGS (G-SIX – 8 dog fields)

Current grading of meetings for Angle Park, Murray Bridge and Gawler are on a G-SIX program, there will however be some 8 dog Quad programmed, this will vary based on the nominations across each meeting and the weekly schedule.

If GRSA believe a meeting is struggling we will revert to G-SIX across venues and consider the number of races conducted. GRSA will be nimble in this space to ensure our weekly schedule is supported. From the GRP meeting it was agreed that GRSA would try and run G-SIX or 8 dog quad for all races that are the same grade rather than having one race of Grade 5, 8 dogs and the other G-SIX.

Mount Gambier sits separately to this at present as they have only been running one meeting per week, however, from January they will race on Thursday and Sunday every week so they will come under the same criteria as above.

Feature races and series will still be conducted as 8 dog events along with middle distance and staying events under the previously advised criteria.
