TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Tonight here at headquarters we have take two of the 2023 Bayroad Queen final over the 730m, last week the last half of the meeting was cancelled so we have the $10,000 to the winner final held this evening. Race 8 is the one to watch and we will stick with Zipping Neutron who has been in great form since arriving here in SA under the astute care of Tim Aloisi, he has won his last three and from the draw needs an ounce of luck early to be the one to beat. The dangers are the pacey Springvale Bray and Zipping Patch, don’t forget to put Troy Intention in the First Four.

2023 BAYROAD QUEEN STAYERS FINAL RE PROGRAMMED FOR TONIGHT

With the last 5 races not conducted last Thursday night due to severe weather the Bayroad Queen Stayers Cup has been re programmed to be run tonight. Heat winners from two weeks ago were the Tim Aloisi trained Zipping Neutron running 42.85 and the Mike Giniotis trained Springvale Bray running 43.05.
Tonight’s final is worth $15,250 and will be race 8 on the program due to start at 9.11pm.
The Bayroad Queen Stayer’s Cup is named in honour of one of the State’s best ever stayers. Bayroad Queen competed in the early 80’s and in 1982 she won the National Distance Final breaking a 13 year dominance of NSW and Victoria. She also won the equivalent of the Association Cup at Harold Park and Sandown Cup at Olympic Park and was named the SA Greyhound of the Year. She broke the Angle Park track record on two occasions inside a month and at the peak of her powers she was considered the best stayer in the country

VICTA DAMIAN SA’ S HEADLINE ACT FOR BRISBANE CUP HEATS TONIGHT
Group racing turns to the Sunshine State again tonight with heats of the Group 1 Brisbane Cup over the 520m at Albion Park and the Group 1 Queensland Cup over the staying trip of 710m.
There are 7 heats of the Brisbane Cup (races 6 to 12) with the Lisa Rasmussen trained sprinter Victa Damian leading the charge for SA. He is in race 11 and has drawn box 6 and has been aided by the scratching of the 5 greyhound which should give him a little more room early. On the back of his 5th placing in the Flying Amy final he has had a few weeks off to get ready for tonight’s assignment. Victa Damian’s race is due to start at 9.46pm SA time with the winners and fastest second qualifying for next Thursday’s $1,000,000 final ($650,000 to the winner).
Damian’s kennel mates Victa Marli (Race 9 no 5 @ 9.05pm) and Victa Alby (Race 10 no 6 @ 9.27pm) for Tony Rasmussen will have to be at their very best to qualify for the Cup as it is one of the strongest series seen on the National calendar.
There are also 5 heats of the Queensland Cup over the staying journey to kick of the program which are races 1 to 5, all the action begins at 6.14pm.

IMPORTANT UPDATE - LICENSING
GRSA wishes to advise Participants of the following:
•             Owners renewing licenses will NOT require Police Clearances at the current renewal period (30/6/2023);
•             Trainers, Attendants and Breeders WILL require Police Clearances as previously advised and
•             A grace period will apply to those experiencing difficulties

If you are requiring assistance in obtaining a Police Clearance, we encourage you to contact Renee Colquhoun (8243 7113 – [email protected]) or Des Jonas (8243 7166 – 0478 189 366  – [email protected]) at your earliest convenience.

Please note – If you have not renewed your licence this may prevent any greyhounds being nominated for upcoming meetings from July 1 onwards. Please ensure your trainer and owner’s licences are all up to date when nominating.

GRADING REVIEW PANEL MEETING OUTCOMES – MAIN POINTS

•    GRSA will allow one extra Grade 6 over another distance for City A Thursday meetings bringing this into line with all tracks in SA. No retrospectivity regarding this change.

•    GRSA has removed the condition where once a greyhound has won a Grade 5 or higher event on a City A meeting that the greyhound will lose all Grade 6 events at all other tracks. This means a greyhound could be a Grade 4 or Grade 3 over 530m on a Thursday City A meeting and will still be able to win Grade 6 events at other tracks. No retrospectivity regarding this change.

•    GRSA will now allow a greyhound after winning a Grade 5 Masters event in faster time than the time standard to get back into Masters with 2 runs in a Grade 5 at the track and distance, it doesn’t matter if they are placed or unplaced just so long as there are two starts out of Masters. This has been changed from being just unplaced to get back.

ADDITIONAL TUESDAY NIGHT MEETING AT ANGLE PARK
After consultation and support by Sky Racing, GRSA has programmed an extra race meeting on the weekly schedule for the new season, with Tuesday night at Angle Park now on the calendar. This extra meeting will be shown on Sky 2 and will be for Category 3 prizemoney. It will also be for short course greyhounds (342m) exclusively to not affect 530m+ at Angle Park meetings on Monday (Category 2) and Thursday (Category 1). GRSA may initially have to utilise more 6 dog fields to spread out our numbers across the weekly schedule, however, this will only be determined at the time.  These meetings will be graded events and as we haven’t run this category with greyhounds taking a grade (Saturday mornings are Non Penalty) it will be like a new venue with most grades being Maiden, Grade 6 and Grade 5 to start with.
Nominations will close on the Friday before, the same time as Gawler Wednesday. This does avoid Angle Park Monday and Murray Bridge Tuesday which close on the Thursday.
Trials at Angle Park will move from Tuesday night to Wednesday night and be run the same time as the Murray Bridge trials.
The implementation date is scheduled for 1st August, 2023.

LOW GRADE RACE FOR THURSDAYS AT ANGLE PARK
In an effort to ensure we are programming 12 races each Thursday night at Angle Park, GRSA has introduced a low grade race for some Thursday nights. These races are for Grade 5 greyhounds over 530m that have a low WPS (Weighted Points Score). Prizemoney will be slightly less than a normal Grade 5, however, these races will be non-penalty. There will be no guarding, no reserves and only one 8 greyhound race. This should provide encouragement for those trainers who have 500m+ greyhounds but feel they cannot compete on a normal Thursday night due to current form. We are hoping to draw from a different pool of greyhounds and GRSA would encourage trainers to nominate.
$3,505 Special event Grade 5 (worst to best) – 530m (One 8 dog field will be graded from the Weighted Points Score table of Grade 5 pool of greyhounds worst to best grading. No guarding and no reserves. Trainers cannot nominate for this event specifically. Non Penalty)
The next programmed event is on Thursday, 29th June.
• Nominations close Monday, 3rd July with GRSA at 9.00am
GRSA has also continued with the 1 – 4 win Time Graded Heats on a Saturday morning over 530m into a Thursday night Final, however, with the introduction of the race on Thursday night, in May the 5+ 530m Time Graded events will only be run if insufficient nominations for the meeting (there will be no Heats for this pool of greyhounds unless specifically programmed).

GRSA will also continue running Heats at Murray Bridge, Angle Park Monday and Gawler into a Thursday night Final where the program allows to draw from a different pool of greyhounds over 500m.

2023 GAWLER BREEDERS FINAL TOMORROW
With only 7 nominations for the heats of the Gawler Breeders over 531m for tomorrow’s meeting (Friday, 30th June) has been changed to a one of final under GRSA policy and prizemoney increased to $5,000 for the final.
It is race 5 tomorrow due to start at 4.00pm and features the battle between the Tim Richards kennel (3 runners) and team Rasmussen with 4 runners. Main contenders look to be last start 2nd placegetter in the $22,000 Gawler Produce Final, Coorong Cam against last start Gawler Produce Consolation winner Victa Kerle.

2023 NORTH V SOUTH CHALLENGE IN JULY

This year’s series will start with one Heat for Gawler greyhounds and one Heat for Murray Bridge greyhounds at Gawler on Sunday, 16th July, with the 531m Heats worth $2,285 each and the 400m Heats worth $1,995 for round 1. Round 2 will be at Murray Bridge with the same greyhounds competing in one Heat for the Gawler greyhounds and one Heat for Murray Bridge greyhounds on Sunday, 23rd July, with the 530m Heats worth $2,285 and the 395m Heats worth $1,995.  Each Heat will consist of a maximum of 8 dogs with the Finals run at Gawler on Sunday, 30th July as an 8 dog Final plus reserves. Greyhounds will receive points through both rounds 1 and 2 to establish the 4 from each Club who will progress through to the Final.

Special conditions apply regarding who represents which club from the North or South, greyhound eligibility and how the series is structured. Full conditions are available on the GRSA website and in the current edition of Kennel Capers.

Nominations for Round 1 close with GRSA on Wednesday 12th July at 9am.
