Racing News

There goes another month and if you have been following us you should have ended up on the right side of the ledger on the punt. As COVID hits hard throughout the community we must end the month on a high and build the bank as we head towards Easter.

Race 1 - As the distance stocks keep on increasing here in SA we start the night over the 730M and we will go with Zipping Nebraska out in box 7, she has been racing well winning her last two over this trip and will be the one to beat again. New Year Tears continues to earn money for connections and is one for the Trifecta. Dashing Wilma and Mr. Ibrox for the minors. Box Up 5.6.7.8

Race 2 - The Maidens have been a bit tricky in recent weeks and I will stick with Jalapeno Lad for the Rasmussen kennel, he has been placed in three of his four runs and is knocking on the door. Spring Pony along with Foreshadow who is on debut for the Trifecta. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 3 - Spring Vinnie has been in terrific form at Murray Bridge, if he brings that form to town he looks the one to beat. Bruce Mick Glenn was backed like there was no tomorrow when 2nd here last week, he is the danger. Lala Hibiscus is drawn for a bold showing. Box Up 1.3.6.7

Race 4 - There is a lot of early pace here and Molly Blinders has been racing well and has the pace to lead from the good draw, the dangers look to be Spring Mayfield along with George The First all three are in form and can win. Box up 2.3.6.7,

Race 5 - This is another wide open affair and Spring Agatha was a nice winner at Gawler last run, she has won here in the past and is amongst the better chances. Don’t Tell Bluey has handy Murray Bridge form over the 455M he must be respected from the good draw. Box Up 1.2.3.5

Race 6 - Fantastic Faith is our top pick here, she ran on strongly to win here last week from box 8 and she should be right on the pace early from the draw. On The Tequila is in form and is a chance as is Flash Banner who was caught right on the line here last week. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 7 - How good is this event, I have gone with Fantastic Victor who is back in distance here tonight, he can run quick times when on the lure and is amongst the main chances. Victa Grosso has been in outstanding form winning four of his last five all in good times, he is the danger again. Add Fly For Trix who has early pace and Victa Reid who is capable of causing a upset. Box Up 2.3.7.8

Race 8 - This is the 2022 Breeder Prelude (1) Final and He’s All Purpose is our top selection in this, he was a 30.39 winner here last run and hopefully can clear them early and salute. Springvale Max along with Sir Benjamin have ability and look the ones for the Trifecta punter. Box Up 1.3.4.5

Race 9 - Willow has had a short let up, he has won 4 of his 6 starts and will take beating again if he jumps to the front. Harboring was a handy winner last start at Gawler from box 5 and is drawn for another forward showing. Add Gemtree Apollo who is very smart on his night. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 10 - Midoriyama was a handy 2nd here first up, the EX Victorian made good ground from a wide draw and finds himself with a gun draw here tonight. Nikita was never out of trouble here when missing a place last run she was racing well prior and is the improver. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 11 - The Robyn Mackellar kennel could have a race to race double with Lucius Malfoy here, he showed early pace to lead only to be run down late, he is drawn to win in this on that effort. Benitoite is strong and can run into the minors as can Panama Dance. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 12 - The pacey Rosie Red can send us home on a winning note, she has won three of her last five and looks the likely leader here. Queen Of Fire will be running on as will Under Study. Add Far More Crazy for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.5

BREEDERS 2022 PRELUDE (2) HEATS MOVED BACK 1 WEEK TO AVOID GAWLER FUTURE STARS

GRSA advise that the Breeders 2022 Prelude (2) heats at Angle Park that were programmed on Monday 18th April have been rescheduled and will be run on Monday 25th April with the final on Monday 2nd May. This will now avoid the Gawler Future Stars series where the final is scheduled to be run on Sunday 17th April. As both series draw from the exact same pool of SA Bred greyhounds the change gives the opportunity for trainers to nominate and the Clubs to run both events.

With the change this will still give greyhounds that qualify for the Breeders 2022 Prelude (2) final on 2nd May, 10 days until the Group 3 Howard Ashton Heats on Thursday 12th May.

VICTA HAYDN SHOOTING FOR “EASTAR” TIME TONIGHT

A winner of 17 of his 47 starts with 21 placings, Victa Haydn for trainer Tony Rasmussen will be solo trialling tonight in between races at Angle Park to log a time that could see him jump into the top 8 standings of the Eastar Match Race series. Currently he would need to run better than 30.29 to push Victa Reid out. He has plenty of strength so it will be interesting to see what time he can run with clear running over the 530m journey.

LOCAL GREYHOUNDS AT SANDOWN TONIGHT AND BROKEN HILL ON SUNDAY

After qualifying through the SA Launching Pad series, Charlee’s Misty for trainer Ed Burrett is engaged in the heats of the rich Launching Pad series at Sandown tonight. She is in race 2 due to go at 6.25pm SA time and has come up with the favourable draw of box 1 however she has come up against Meadows Phoenix winner, Wow She’s Fast which will be a tough assignment. If she can progress through the series the semi finals will be on Thursday 7th April with the $150,000 to the winner on Thursday, 14th April.

Local SA trainers have made the trip up to Broken Hill for their inaugural TAB meeting on Sunday night which features their Cup heats. With the likes of Troy Murray, Bec Romyn, Clint, Shelly and Jack Trengove, Vadim Roz and Michelle Moon all making the trip it could be a great night for our trainers. Race 8 looks a strong race for SA with Came And Went, Meet Joe Black, Kingsville Flyer, Kinrock Star and Teddy The Bear all engaged.

TRACK MAINTNENACE NEWS

ANGLE PARK TRACK GRADE & HARROW – CHANGE TO TRIAL DAYS

Please note that the Angle Park track will undergo a surface grade and deep harrow on Friday 8th April.

As a result it is necessary to transfer the trial session scheduled for Saturday 9th April to the following day on Sunday 10th April, commencing at 7.00am as normal.

This will allow the maintenance team sufficient time to return the track to a somewhat normal state for trials, however it is expected that times are still likely to be slower than normal. GRSA apologies for any inconvenience caused by these changes.

MURRAY BRIDGE MOVED FOR NEXT 7 DAYS

Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) is managing ongoing resourcing issues as a result of Covid-19 exposures and the requirement for key staff to isolate. This has impacted our ability to adequately resource the Murray Bridge facility over the next 7 days. As a result, the following changes have occurred to the racing calendar:

Delete: Murray Bridge – Sunday, 3rd April 2022  (TAB) Night

Add: Gawler– Sunday, 3rd April 2022  (TAB) Night

Delete: Murray Bridge – Tuesday, 5th April 2022  (TAB) Day

Add: Angle Park – Tuesday, 5th April 2022  (TAB) Day

  • Sunday nights meeting is Gawler grading with Gawler Prov 1 Prizemoney. The Heats for the Daish Irrigation and Fodder Maiden programmed will now be delayed to another Murray Bridge meeting.
  • With racing now to be conducted on Tuesday at Angle Park this will be an Angle Park Prov 2 meeting for prizemoney and grades. The Heats for the Bitches Grade will be moved to another Murray Bridge Straight track meeting. Nominations for this meeting will close tomorrow at 9am with GRSA.

In addition to these changes, all trials will be cancelled at Murray Bridge in the next week, with the next trial session now being Friday 8th April.

2022 GAWLER PRODUCE – FINAL PAYMENT DUE ON TOMORROW (FRIDAY, 1ST APRIL)

After the second payment was made in January there are still 116 greyhounds eligible for the 2022 Gawler Produce series which is terrific for the Club and is shaping as another exciting series. The Final is guaranteed at $22,000 which has a $10,000 bonus if a greyhound can win both the Produce Final in June and the Gawler Gold Cup Final in November later this year. The racing dates for this series will be Heats on Friday, 10th June 2022, Semi-Finals on Sunday, 19th June 2022 and the Final on Sunday, 26th July 2022

ANGLE PARK’S 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY AND $5OK TO THE WINNER ON FRIDAY 29TH APRIL

After consultation with Greyhound Racing Victoria, Greyhound Racing SA is very appreciative that they have swapped their Friday night meeting on April 29th with Angle Park’s Thursday night meeting on April 28th. This will mean that Angle Park can celebrate our 50th Anniversary with a big night planned on a Friday night along with increased prizemoney of $50,000 to the winner for the Anniversary Cup Final on the night.

The night itself will be very much like an Adelaide Cup atmosphere with plenty of entertainment for families as we celebrate 50 years at Angle Park. The feature Anniversary Cup Final, offering $50k to the winner will be sure to provide a high quality line up of sprinters, locally and interstate, with Heats for this event on Thursday, 22nd April. Coinciding with the Anniversary Cup Final is the SA Distance Championship Final worth $10k to the winner with Heats also run on Thursday, 22nd April.

Other changes will be the Gawler Friday meeting on 29th April will now be run on Thursday, 28th April in the twilight timeslot. GRSA appreciates the support of GRVIC and Sky Racing in regard to these changes.
