Angle Park Preview - 9th February 2023
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
Tonight here at headquarters the highlight of the night are three heats of the 2023 SA St Leger races 5, 6 and 7, there are a couple of interstate visitors who have crossed the border which will make for interesting racing. As always all 12 events are Trifecta and First Four events.
Race 1 - We will go with Deployment who is in the Trengove kennel, he has been in fine form winning his last three here and back in Bendigo, he has early pace and is one of the better chances. See My Future is only lightly raced and was a good winner of her heat last Saturday. 3.6.4.7 Boxed
Race 2 - The Maiden of the evening and this is a wide open affair, the David Perry combo in Axel Coaster and Coco Coaster both have chances. Boy From Hill is well drawn down in 1 but needs to improve. Add in Phoebe’s Baby for the minors. 7.5.2.1 Boxed.
Race 3 - Veteran trainer Mike Wittholz has a big chance here again with Fantastic Joe, he won here last start from a wide draw and is one of the better chances again with a repeat performance. Evie Jean has been in good form and is a chance with an ounce of early luck. 7.5.2.8 Boxed
Race 4 - Tim Aloisi keeps on producing intestate performers and he has Mepunga Raider in this, he is well drawn first up in SA and looks a big chance here. Basil Brush Rose has found form winning three of his last five, he gives you heart failure early then rattles home late. Jackey Moon is one for the First Four. 1.6.3.5 Boxed.
Race 5 - This is the 1st of the 2023 SA St Leger and the main chances look to be Victa Alby who is resuming from a couple of runs in NSW. Queen Of Scotch who has the good draw and was a last start winner here when leading throughout. Add in Victa Speed who is the form runner. 3.1.6.8 Boxed.
Race 6 - Springvale Dave is the one to beat in the 2nd heat, he has been in fine form and has the early pace to be right in the mix early. Victa Marli has early pace and is drawn to be in the top three in the run to the 1st turn. Yarramundi Paul will be flying late and just needs luck early in the run. 3.2.5.7 Boxed
Race 7 - The last of the heats and with the scratching of Whiskey Soda the Victorian visitor Nalani Bale should get a clear run to the first turn, she has been racing well at Sandown and should go close. Spring Honour has won his last three and is drawn to have the run of the race. Dashing Deb will be our value runner as she is strong. 8.1.7.4 Boxed.
Race 8 - Springvale Max can bounce back in this, he was beaten from this draw here last week but he is the one to beat for mine here. Springvale Roxy is always a threat and the pacey Victa Kurt continues to bob up at big odds. 1.3.4.6 Boxed
Race 9 - Lochinvar Aloisi was a last start winner at Mount Gambier in handy time, he has been well travelled of late and is one of the better chances here. Zipping Dione was placed first up here in SA, she will be the improver. Victa Kerle is one for the minors who has drawn very wide. 5.4.7.8 Boxed.
Race 10 - This is a handy little event over the 595m and the Aloisi kennel could have a handy night and Ive tipped them again here with Ravers Army, he was a last start winner at Gawler when well supported and is one of the main chances again in this. Adelmo Bale has handy Victorian form over the 600m and is the danger. Spring Harbour needs to improve but has won here in quick time in the past. 1.4.2.6 Boxed.
Race 11 - We are over the 730m here and Chair Man was a last start winner here over this trip and is the one they will have to beat again from his good draw, he has been racing well and should go close. New Year Tears along with San Lorenzo are the other chances. 2.1.8.6
Race 12 - Run Like Jess can send us home on a winning note, he is a big strong type who should get across from his draw of 6. Aston Arena and Mr. Ticket both have inside draws and are chances with a clear run early. 6.1.3.2 Boxed.

RACING AND TRIALLING FREQUENCY – STARTED 1ST FEBRUARY
GRSA has adopted a new local rule in regard to frequency of racing and trialling which will take effect on Wednesday 1st February 2023. Some greyhounds will not be eligible for the 7 in 28 period as this includes events in January. The update local rule is below -
69A Racing and trialling frequency
(1) In this rule:
Race has the same meaning given to this term in R9 of the GAR.
Trial means a satisfactory trial, or a qualifying trial as defined in R9 of the GAR.
(2) A greyhound will only be permitted to start in –
(a) No more than a combined total of 2 race and trial starts in any 7-day period; and,
(b) No more than a combined total of 7 race and trial starts in any 28-day period.
(3) This sub-rule commences on a date to be fixed by Stewards’ Notice.
The intent of this rule is to monitor and regulate the frequency of races and official trials of greyhounds, to ensure adequate rest time is given between events. The rule is similar to one in effect in Western Australia. We have automated the Ozchase Racing system to be able to monitor this rule. The rule is self-explanatory. A greyhound must not start more than 2 times (races or trials combined) in any 7-day period. Further, a greyhound must not start more than 7-times (races or trials combined) in any 28-day period.
Any attempt to nominate a greyhound outside these parameters will be flagged by the OzChase system. If a greyhound gains a start from reserve deeming it ineligible under this rule for its next engagement or it competes in another state prior to racing back in SA then the greyhound will come out.
**Racing Administration staff will scratch these greyhounds acting under this rule without notification. (the responsibility rests with the trainer to ensure they do not contravene this rule)
**For clarity if a greyhound races on Sunday, Wednesday then Sunday it will be eligible. The first day counts as day 1 and therefore resets on the Saturday.
LOCAL MATCH RACE SERIES “THE SA EASTAR” IN APRIL
The SA Local Match Race series coined “The SA Eastar” will be held on Thursday night, 6th April (Easter) at Angle Park.
Eligibility for South Australian local greyhounds will be based around the Nationals conditions. They will need to be trained in SA 76 days out of the last 150 prior to the close of nominations.
Selection for this series will only be based around winning times at Angle Park. For greyhounds that have run over the 530m at Angle Park on any meeting since 1st November, 2022 their fastest winning time will be recognised and put them on the list for selection.
The head to head matches will be decided based on the final listing and nominations. Match 1 will be 1 v 4, Match 2 will be 2 v 3, Match 3 will be 5 v 8 and Match 4 will be 6 v 7. There will be no manual selection from the Grader. The top 4 seeded greyhounds will be rewarded with more prizemoney.
Winners of match races – Match 1 – 1 v 4 $4,500, Match 2 – 2 v 3 $4,000, Match 3 – 5 v 8 $3,500, Match 4 – 6 v 7 $3,000
