TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Tonight here at Angle Park we have the heats of the 2022 SA Oaks and SA Derby with a strong contingent from interstate, it will make for an interesting night of racing. We also see the return of Fantastic Radley in race 11 over the 730M who was our representative in the Nationals. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1
- It's certainly a toughie to kick start the night off so I have gone with Springview Force who has early pace, he has won three of his last five and is a chance of leading. Raptor along with Basil Brush Rose are well drawn and are chances. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 2 - This is the Maiden of the night and Victa Speed is working towards a win, he has an early pace and from the inside draw will give this a shake. Victa Tony was run down here the last start from box 1 he looks the danger. Add Springvale Jess who will be running on strongly. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 3 - The 1st of the SA Oaks heats and the Victorian visitor Jackpot Joan is one of the better chances, she has won here in the past and was the last start winner at Sandown. Osprey Athena is another from across the border and could surprise. Queen Of Scotch has the ability and can handle the wide draw. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 4 - This is the 2nd of the Oaks heats and the Britton kennel has a good strike rate here in SA feature events and has a chance here with Wobbly Boots down in box 1, she has been in the money at her last 3 and is well drawn. Yahiro Bale has won 7 from 18 along with 6 placings she can run into the placings. Box Up 1.3.4.8

Race 5 - Ava Blazer is another who is in the Britton kennel, she has the form on the board at Sandown with two wins from her last three and is the measuring stick here. Miss Scallywag has been racing well and has the early pace to cross, she is one for the Trifecta punter as is the WA visitor Ether Monelli. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 6 - The first of the SA Derby heats and the Azzopardi kennel returns to SA with a couple of handy types, Shot Of Red has won his last 4 all in good times and will take a power of beating. Mepunga Raider has been odds on at his last four back in Victoria he can handle the 8 draws and must be respected. Box up 5.6.7.8

Race 7 - Hector Fawley was very impressive when winning here last week in 30.36 at his 1st look and will be the one to beat in the 2nd of the Derby Heats, he is a strong type who has a handy future. Cosmic Sin has won his last three at The Meadows, his last two from wide draws. Add Salad Dodger who found trouble here last week after missing the kick. Box up 2.4.6.7

Race 8 - The 3rd Heat of the Derby and we will stick with Deadly Class, he flew home here last week to run 2nd from a wide draw, he looks the big improver. Columbus Monelli is a WA performer who has won 3 of his 6 starts and trialled here in 30.72 he just needs to improve his box manners. Fifty-Eight will be our vale for the First Four. Box Up 2.3.4.7

Race 9 - The inside three are the main chances here, Classic McLaren was the last start winner here and loves his draw tonight of 1 and will take a beating again. Aragog had his first look at the track last week and finished 3rd he will be improved by the run and is right in the mix again. Box up 1.2.3.4

Race 10 - How good has Sunset Toxic been in recent weeks, he has won his last four and continues to show his early pace and is the one to beat again. Fantastic Dixie will be running on strongly as always and is a big danger. Victa Reid is another who is strong and has a good draw at each way odds. Box Up 1.2.6.8

Race 11 - This is the distance affair of the night and we can’t go past Fantastic Radley who has been in outstanding form and is yet to miss a cheque here in his 10 starts, he should prove far too strong but will be very short. Mr Ibrox and New Year Tears for the minors. 4 from 2.6.8

Race 12 - On a big night of racing and Rufus Scrimgeour can send us home on a winning note, he is drawn to have every chance. War Drum Express was the last start winner at Gawler over the 643m and is the danger. Add Criminal for the Trifecta. Box up 1.2.6.7

2022 SA COUNTRY CUP CONDITIONS
Below are details of how and where greyhounds can qualify for the $7,500 SA Country Cup Final, to be run at Angle Park over 530 metres on Adelaide Cup G-SIX Final night Friday 7th October 2022.
Conditions
•    All South Australian Greyhound Racing Clubs outside of Angle Park will conduct heats, or nominate greyhounds from which the Greyhound Racing SA Grading Department will choose two representatives. These meetings are Gawler Provincial 2, Murray Bridge One Turn Provincial 1 and Mount Gambier Provincial 1 & 2. (Performances at Gawler Provincial 1 meetings are not eligible for consideration)
•    The event is open to all South Australian greyhounds that are not above Grade 5 at Angle Park (APK City A meeting only) over 530 metres at the time of nomination. The winner of each event takes a penalty including the final.
Special Exceptions:
Mount Gambier Club is allowed to include non-South Australian trainers under strict conditions:
1.    The trainer has had starters at 15 meetings for Mt Gambier in the previous 12 months.
2.    The trainer can only qualify for one of the clubs.
3.    The trainer must have trained the greyhound nominated for the previous 3 months.
•    Graders’ discretion will be used to determine the best nominated.
•    The greyhound must be SA trained (except Mount Gambier as above).
o    A South Australian-trained greyhound is defined as one that has been racing in SA for a period of not less than 3 out of the 6 months immediately prior to the time of nomination.
•    The greyhound must have started at least 2 times in the last 12 months at the track it is attempting to represent.
•    There will be a maximum of two heats per Club with the winners of each heat qualifying. If there is only one heat conducted then the first two placegetters will qualify.
•    The two reserves will be determined firstly by a ballot of the second placegetters from all heats. The third placegetters will then be considered by ballot if required. If a heat was not conducted at the track, then that track is not included in the ballot. Should a greyhound be withdrawn prior to the ballot, the next placed greyhound from that Club’s heat will be selected.
•    Once a greyhound has qualified from a Qualifying Heat, it is not eligible to compete at another track in this series unless there are insufficient nominations to fill the field.
•    Once qualified for the Country Cup Final the greyhound will be ineligible for the Adelaide Cup series or any other race on this Cup Final night.
• Lead-up Heats may be up to 8 greyhounds however the Final on Adelaide Cup night will be a G-SIX Final

TAB MATCH RACE CHALLENGE – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS IN SEPTEMBER
South Australia will again conduct the annual Match Race Challenge in September, to be held on Thursday, 22nd September during the rich Adelaide Cup Carnival. Previously conducted as a State of Origin Series between SA and Victorian greyhounds, this was changed last year to an Allstars edition due to Covid and the linking of feature races with Victoria being unavailable.
After liaising with GRV and due to a change in the feature race programming and conditions, the linking of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup with Victorian events is not available this year. Also, the Million Dollar Chase which was programmed on top of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup has been changed to an earlier timeslot giving SA’s prestigious event much-needed clear air on the racing calendar.
To ensure that Angle Park TAB Match Race Challenge attracts the best greyhounds possible, GRSA has kept the conditions of the series the same as last year to be “SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS”. It will be four (4) SA greyhounds taking on the four (4) best-nominated greyhounds from anywhere in Australia.
GRSA will still guarantee the winner of the TAB Match Race Challenge direct entry into the $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Adelaide Cup Final on Friday, 7th October (bypassing the Adelaide Cup Heats).
Nominations close at 9 am on Monday, 19th September with GRSA.
Conditions of the TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS:
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or All-Stars will be based on the National Championships domiciliary clause. Greyhounds need to be trained in the state they wish to represent for 76 days out of the last 150 days prior to the date that nominations close (19th September).
The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from SA will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “SA’s Best”. The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from Interstate will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “the All-Stars”.
The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds including liaising with other State bodies as required. The SA Grader’s decision will be final.
Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared, with one (1) from SA and one (1) from Interstate (dependant on nominations), which will replace the SA or All-Stars representative as required. For example, the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.
The Grader will rate the four (4) greyhounds from SA and the four (4) from Interstate in order from 1 to 4, with No.1 being the highest rated greyhound from each group. The head-to-head matches will be decided by the two No.1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.
Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect the seeding of greyhounds from 1 to 4, with the No.1 rated greyhound racing for the most prizemoney in the head-to-head races. However, the overall winner of the race will still be determined by actual race times run by each greyhound (to three decimal places).
PRIZEMONEY:
Prizemoney for each pairing: • 1 v 1 – Winner $4,750, Runner Up $500 • 2 v 2 – Winner $4,500, Runner Up $500 • 3 v 3 – Winner $4,250, Runner Up $500 • 4 v 4 – Winner $4,000, Runner Up $500
Prizemoney for the overall placings for TAB Match Race Challenge (based on overall times):
• 1st – $7,500 • 2nd – $2,500 • 3rd – $1,000
