TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

We have another big night ahead of us here at headquarters, two Finals of the 2024 Nationals, the first over the 730 (race 4 ) and of course the Sprint (race 7). Both are good betting events and are wide open so make sure you have a First Four in both. If you are keen later in the night jump on Riot Rooster in race 6, he can bounce back and if able to lead will run good time. In the Nationals I have stuck with Zipping Neutron, he hasn’t been at his best of late but tonight from the rails draw can find the lead early and go on and win. The Sprint, I cant go past Fantastic Spike, he just needs to begin better than he has been and he will blow these away.

BOOST FOR NATIONALS PROGRAMMING
With the August calendar released GRSA has attempted to provide diverse racing opportunities for all of our greyhounds during the Group 1 National Championships held later next month to ensure all race meetings are supported with terrific financial rewards available for our participants.
•    The SA National Sprint and Distance finals to be decided at Angle Park on Thurs¬day August 8 will see total prizemoney elevated from $15,000 to $25,000.
•    The race meeting at Angle Park on Saturday night, 24th August will not only feature the two Group 1 $136,750 National Sprint and Distance Finals there will also be an extra $1,500 added to all other events on the program including the Classic 2024 Prelude (1) Final enticing some of the very best chasers.
•    The race meeting at Murray Bridge on Saturday morning, 24th August will not only feature the Group 3 $44,875 National Straight Track Final, but the whole 10 race card will be conducted with City A Metro prizemoney (Category 1) with a shared Straight track and One Turn meeting planned. This will be a great spectacle to have both tracks in operation on the same day. Feature races on the meeting will be an Open Straight track Feature over the 350m along with a Grade 5 over 300m, bearing in mind as this meeting is a Prov 1 for grading purposes all grades on the Straight track will not be higher than a Grade 5. One turn features a Special Event over the 455m along with two Finals, a Grade 6 455m Final and a Grade 5 395m Final with those Heats run on Friday, 16th August. This should encourage a high quality and interesting meeting for oncourse and off course patrons.
•    The race meeting on Thursday night, 22nd August at Angle Park will provide an opportunity for some short course events with the main focus for sprinting, middle distance and stayers at Angle Park on the Saturday night. This meeting will provide a mix of events over multiple distances with highlighted events being  Maiden Heats over the 530m, a Maiden/Grade 6 Final over 595m from Heats on Thursday, 15th August, a Grade 5 for Male dogs over 530m along with a restricted Grade 6 (1-2 win) event over 530m. Over the 342m we have programmed a Mixed 342m event with some of the quickest bend greyhounds on show, along with two Finals from Heats on Saturday morning, 17th August, one Time Graded 1-4 wins (3 Heats) and one Time Graded 5+ wins (2 Heats) which will provide some of our lesser lights an opportunity to share the spotlight on our City A meeting.
•    At all other meetings during Nationals week, there will a Nationals Bonus payment where all winners, seconds and thirds will receive $100, $50, $25 extra respectively.

With the Gawler Show on the 24th and 25th August resulting in Gawler having a week off, both Angle Park and Murray Bridge will take the focus of our meetings during this time and it is hoped that the spread of racing opportunities provides for a great Nationals week for our local participants and industry.

PREFERENTIAL BOX DRAWS STARTED AT MURRAY BRIDGE ON TUEASDAY
GRSA has started conducting Preferential Box Draws for selected events at the Murray Bridge Straight track starting from Tuesday (Maidens and Feature Cup and Championship series will be excluded). These types of events are being regularly programmed Interstate under each state’s conditions. Events will be specifically advertised, and trainers must advise if they want to compete in these events along with the racing trait of the respective greyhound at the time of nominating in the comments box. If trainers do not provide this information when nominating, they will not be considered for these advertised PBD events.

Conditions -
•    PBD racing to be introduced for advertised race events at the Murray Bridge Straight track as from August 1, 2024
•    Three racing traits – R = Rail, M = Middle, W = Wide
•    The Trainer nominates the racing trait of the greyhound relating to box rise and 50m after the start
•    This is reviewed by Stewards/Grading teams
•    Box draws via OzChase which can now accommodate an automated process where greyhounds can be grouped by trait and then automatically box drawn
•    Grading of each race event will be done under normal grading and programming guidelines
•    There will be No Reserves for these events

Specific PBD Events programmed –
Tuesday 13th August – PDB Grade 6 Final – 300m, PBD Grade 5 300m

We are seeking participants who can take an industry-wide perspective and contribute positively to the industry. The term of membership is 2 years. If you would like to express your interest please complete the application form online or from kennel capers and forward to Shaun Mathieson at GRSA via email [email protected] by Friday 16th August 2024. GRADING UPDATE REMINDERS
• GRSA allow one extra Grade 6 over another distance for City A Thursday meetings bringing this into line with all tracks in SA.
• GRSA removed the condition where once a greyhound has won a Grade 5 or higher event on a City A meeting that the greyhound will lose all Grade 6 events at all other tracks. This means a greyhound could be a Grade 4 or Grade 3 over 530m on a Thursday City A meeting and will still be able to win Grade 6 events at other tracks.
• GRSA allow a greyhound after winning a Grade 5 Masters event in faster time than the time standard to get back Into Masters with 2 runs in a Grade 5 at the track and distance, it doesn’t matter if they are placed or unplaced just so long as there are two starts out of Masters. This was changed from being just unplaced to get back.

SA BREEDERS SUPPORT PROGRAM
The Breeders Support Claim which has been increased to a maximum of $5,500 per litter will apply to all SA bred and whelped litters where the mating took place on or after April 1, 2024. Breeders will be able to claim from a wider variation of breeding costs including stud fees, veterinary and transport, vaccination costs and whelping costs. Please see the breakdown below for Breeders who are looking at breeding their next litter. Claims will be processed upon receipt of the Litter Registration form and Claim form.
