TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

We have another strong 12 event program here tonight at headquarters and lets see if we can continue with our winning formula, race five looks a handy event to have a crack at for the First Four punters with a wide open race over the 595M. I went with West On Muffin out in box 8, I’m hoping she can jump and clear them from the car park draw and prove too good, the dangers will come from Daintree Tiger and Ethanol Unleaded. Box Up 1.4.7.8.
Euler Bale is an interesting runner in race 8, he made a mess of them at Gawler over the 400m at his first run in SA , he is in the Robyn Mackellar kennel and he should be very hard to beat on that performance.

VACCINATION RULE FOR RACING IN SA – REMINDER
Trainers are reminded that Rule 25 (Minimum Vaccination Requirements) took effect Monday, 1stMay, 2023. Vaccination Certificates must be received by GRSA prior to close of nominations for affected greyhounds to be considered eligible for nominating. It is also imperative that once the greyhound has been vaccinated the paperwork is lodged by yourself as soon as possible. Trainers are also reminded that they must not have their greyhound vaccinated within 5 days of racing. Should this occur, the greyhound will be scratched from its engagement or if paperwork lodged after an engagement and discovered the greyhound raced inside the 5 days then the matter will be referred to the stewards.

TUESDAY NIGHT MEETINGS ON THE CALENDAR
Greyhound Racing South Australia (GRSA) announced the introduction of Tuesday night meetings at Angle Park, which started a few weeks ago.  The Tuesday night meetings are designed to meet demand, providing more racing opportunities for lower class greyhounds within SA.

The meetings will be time graded, with 10 races of six dog fields. The meetings will operate in tandem with Saturday morning race meetings which will target greyhounds of the same class with the racing distance at both race meetings restricted to 342m. Excess nominations are currently received for Saturday morning meetings.  The Tuesday meetings will provide a further outlet for greyhounds that are nominated for the Saturday mornings and are not provided with a starting opportunity. Greyhounds falling into this category will be granted preference rights if nominated for the subsequent Tuesday night meeting.

With Saturday morning and Tuesday night meetings being restricted to 342m nominations, opportunities for 530m time graded greyhounds will be programmed for other Angle Park dates. Trainers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the details for the Tuesday night meetings, changes to the Saturday morning meetings and updated trialling times for Angle Park.

SEEKING GRADING REVIEW PANEL POSITIONS – APPLICATIONS EXTENDED UNTIL TOMORROW (FRIDAY 5TH JULY)
With some of the Grading Review Panel members no longer on the panel, GRSA is now seeking applications from Industry persons who are interested in joining the Grading Review Panel. The Grading Review Panel looks at all things grading in South Australia and how rules and policies can provide a fair and balanced system. Members work in a group environment and are required to have a strategic and balanced view in regard to the best outcomes for everyone in the industry.

Listed below are the specific categories that are up for nominations.
• Mature Professional Trainer
• Semi- Professional Trainer
• Breeding Background
• Young Professional Trainer
• Pathway/Hobbyist
• Wagering Background
• Ownership Background
• Club Representative
Should you fall under one of these categories and would like to join the Panel please apply in writing to myself at [email protected] advising the attributes you could bring to the Panel. Applications close on Friday, 5th July 2024 which will then be considered by the GRSA Board for appointment. The appointment will be for a 2 year term which could be extended if agreed upon, with the Panel meeting 2 to 3 times a year, however, there will be general correspondence during this time which will take place via email. The next meeting scheduled for the Grading Review Panel will be in July 2024.

COMMENTS ON NOMINATIONS MARKED “ONLY”
A few years ago the Grading Review Panel agreed that some trainers were using the comments box to influence the grading of fields in particular Grade 5 Only for all their greyhounds.
The panel previously resolved that “Only” would be disregarded over all distances and the grading left to the Grader. (Masters Only or Juvenile Only will be accepted as this is for a specific type of race)
If trainers put “Only or no start or leave me out” then the grader will grade as normal and if a greyhound would be graded into a mixed event based on race wins then he will leave them out based on the trainers request. The more information provided to the Grader allows for him to accommodate those requests

WINNING GRADE 6 RACES IN ORDER
GRSA reminds trainers to win their grade 6 events in order at a specific venue.
For the venues that allow two Grade 6 wins trainers need to win a Grade 6 over one distance and then a Grade 6 over the other distance. If a greyhound wins a Grade 6 and then a Grade 5 then they will lose their Grade 6 over the other distance at that venue.

RE-GRADING FOR ALL TRACKS AND DISTANCES
Re-grading will occur for all tracks and distances for Grade 3 or higher greyhounds.
A trainer can apply for a re-grade after two unsuccessful nominations over the corresponding distance. If having met this criteria the responsibility is on the trainer to apply for a re-grade prior to the close of nominations. Only one distance will be considered for a re-grade per meeting.
