Angle Park Preview - 4th January 2024

Racing News

With the Shadow still at large  overseas, our form assessor from sa.thedogs.com.au gives their thoughts on tonight’s Angle Park meeting featuring the Heats of the SA Sprint -

Race 1 - A pathways final to get the ball rolling on a cracking day! Not sure what the market looks like here but think HAS GOT IT (5) can improve immensely and be some value. Hoping he can get to the front and be too good. VICTA VERN (8) was excellent in his heat and can round these up with confidence. ASTON ENCANTO (2) has the good draw.

Race 2 - I'll hold the hat out for the bookies and hope they give us some candy with ZIPPING JACINTA (5) here. Total forget run here last week, just hoping she skips to the front and set ups a few lengths down the back. KNOCK OFF CANS (1) ran well enough last week and with a clear run he can win. PEDANTIC MISS (7) could scrape home into third.

Race 3 - Next to no confidence in this. Two first starters and some meek form outside of that. Will bank of some improvement from ONE TWO ME (5) and hope that he can come out well and use his strength to get over them late. SPIDER FROM MARS (1) looks the leader, can win if the newbies aren't flash. SHEA'S ENTITY (7) creates interest.

Race 4 - Well I am certainly looking forward to this! Looks a match race to my eye and it's mouth watering to say the least. WOODSIDE JOHNNY (1) on top, don't like his draw, but with a small field, I think he could power over the top. UNHOLY REIGN (7) is a ripper, leads for a long way here. SPRINGVALE RITA (2) has some ability.

Race 5 - SA Sprint time and whilst disappointing to scrape together 10 noms, they have some quality! ADHANA RICO (8) will be bottom of the barrel odds and rightfully so. Just flying at the moment and runs times that these can't. SPRINGVALE MADDI (2) will show a bit early, but may struggle to hang on. COULD BE KING (4) will power on late.

Race 6 - Interesting heat this. WHERE'S POPPY (2) makes the most sense as she should be flying along in front. Form and sectionals say she should be too slick. FIORANO (8) is very good at his best, if he's near the front he will show it and be a big danger. AGENT NINE (6) was terrific first up last week and can land a close second early. Tough race.

Race 7 - Have been all over SUTTON EBONY (6) lately and been left disappointed a few times! But I think that changes tonight, this grade is so suitable, a safe start and an ounce of luck, I think she will be too good. PSYCHOTIC BABE (3) has plenty of pace to work with and is the leader to my eye. Chance. WEBLEC FLAME (4) was good last week.

Race 8 - Even lot here and won't be surprised if anything lobs. Think BUZZ THE HUTLER (2) can return to the winners list here. No luck last week but ran well. Low draw can help, he just needs to come out okay. REALITY INFRARED (6) can handle this draw and get around them early. VICTORY CLUB (4) is the speed influence here and can lead. Good race!

Race 9 - All things being equal, MAXIMUM SMILES (1) will win. Might get zapped early, but his midrace work is excellent and he regain the lead going into the pen. CHEWDINI (6) is certainly a danger. He will be untouched and may well land in front. INFORMATION (4) is a handy sort, just don't think she's strong enough yet to win this race.

Race 10 - A couple of question marks here with how a couple of these go second up over the trip. Will back in MAX ROCHA (7) to improve a tad and be hard to catch. Loved how he maintained his stride last week. SPRINGVALE REX (2) is the obvious and hard to beat. SHINING ON FIRE (4) can pick up some place money, she will keep trying hard.

Race 11 - Will be blown away if 1 of the 3 faves don't win. Although a bit underwhelming last start, GLORIOUS BELLA (1) has a massive chance tonight. Can run this trip out and with a wide runner next door, she gets her chance. FAST HEADACHE (7) will look to charge over early. BLOSSOM MICHELLE (4) just needs to miss the #2 early and she can win.

Race 12 - Here's hoping the pockets are full before this, really open and not even sure who starts favourite. With a lack of confidence, will give ALL ABOUT LARRY (8) another go, even though he was underwhelming Monday. LOST AT SEA (6) is going well but needs to miss the #7 early. DAYNE'S CALAIS (7) could get away early.

STAYING EVENTS TO MOVE TO 5 RUNNERS AS A MINIMUM FROM JANUARY 2024
For a number of years GRSA has supported our staying ranks by running these events with a minimum of 4 runners. GRSA has tried to encourage this pool to grow at the expense of other events on a program, even with such small numbers. However, from meetings drawn in January 2024 any staying event programmed will need to be a minimum of 5 runners to be considered in the program. This will affect the Angle Park 730m, Murray Bridge 680m and Mt Gambier 732m.
GRSA will continue to review processes in relation to the field size and scheduling.
