Racing News

TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

We have another strong 12 event program here at headquarters tonight with racing over three distances, there looks to be several good things throughout the night and in recent weeks we have been finishing on the right side of the ledger. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We kick start the night with an Open Maiden and Terrific Janine is on debut here and is in the Barry Stewart kennel, she is sure to be well tried and looks one of the better chances. By Jingo Jessie is another first starter down in box 1, she is another who we will put in the trifecta. Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 2 - Zipping Princess is a EX NSW performer who has had 4 starts for 3 placings all at Wentworth Park over the 520M, she should find this more to her liking and should take beating. Vanilla Slick worked home well here last week from a middle draw, he is on the improve and has the good draw. Add Jalapeno Jewel for the TRI. Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 3 - Zinfandel Cilla is well drawn, she can kick up early and has a show. Add Danyo’s Mercy who can handle the draw as well as Outback Rebel for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.7

Race 4 - How good was Victa Grosso last week when winning here in 30.13, he is drawn to take a power of beating again. Jack’s Well is a strong type, the current Greyhound of the Year has been runner up at his last three at the track and is the danger. Jax Kade is the value runner who has been racing well. Box up 1.2.6.8

Race 5 - Fantastic Faith is a newcomer to SA who is in the Chegia kennel, they have had a huge amount of success with the breed and she looks a handy type and should go close. Midnight Tracker was a good winner here last week from box 5 and his recent racing has been more than handy. Add Barely’s Gem who can handle the wide draw. Box Up 2.3.6.8

Race 6 - This is over the 595M and Fantastic Victor led everywhere bar the winning post when run down by Scorching Sun, they both are the ones to beat in this. Victa Haydn is a class act, he has been in the money in 8 of his 9 runs here at this trip and can never be overlooked. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 7 - This is a wide open affair and I have gone with the well drawn Platinum Flare down in box 1, he can be hit and miss early but might be able to kick up early and hold a handy position. Helmet Giblet along with the pacey Alcheringa Blaze who should start the punters elect. Box Up 1.4.7.8

Race 8 - Alfieri can bounce straight back into the winners circle here tonight. he loves this draw and can hold the early lead and win. Impress Us has been racing well he has been showing early dash of late and is the big danger. Kingsville Flyer has been striking trouble of late he is a lot better than form suggests but is one for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 9 - Spring Flora is certainly knocking on the door, she has been in the money here at her last five and the kennel is in terrific form. Zipping Rafferty is a strong type, he has been placed at both his runs since transferring to SA and is a must here. Show Me Bucks has been on the improve and looks a place hope again. Box Up 1.5.7.8

Race 10 - Weblec Mist is one of the better bets of the night, she has won her past two here and from the inside draw looks very hard to beat again. Flash Banner and Aston Resort are chances for the Trifecta, they have been racing well and must be respected. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 11 - This is over the 730M and its hard to go past Frankie Boy, he won here last week when coming from behind, he has won 9 of 13 here and looks far to strong again. Zipping Nebraska has been racing well she was a last start winner at Murray Bridge over the 680M when charging home. Box Up 2 from 1.6.8

Race 12 - Lets go home on a winner and have a wager on Hot Spartan who is drawn to have every chance, he is very strong and should give this a big shake. Dark Tides is amongst them along with Shantui’s Ember. Box Up 1.2.4.6

LOCAL NEWS

LAUNCHING PAD SA SERIES BEGINS ON 10th MARCH – NOMINATIONS CLOSE ON MONDAY

Again this year the Sandown GRC offered sweepstake tickets into the rich Launching Pad Series.

There are special conditions on the race, being for greyhounds that have won between 1 and 6 races and have not had more than 30 starts at close of their nominations.

The Heats will be run at Sandown over the 515m on Thursday, 31st March with the Semi-Finals on Thursday, 7th April with the $150,000 to the winner Final run on Thursday, 14th April. GRSA was able to secure a ticket and will give one greyhound the opportunity to compete in this lucrative series. We will run a Heat and Final series to determine who will make the Launching Pad Heats on 31st March.

Our Heats will be run on Thursday, 10th March over the 530m at Angle Park for greyhounds that have won 1-4 races and no more than 28 starts at time of nominations. The Heats will be worth $3,585 and will be Non Penalty events. The Final will be run at Angle Park on Thursday, 17th March over the 530m with prizemoney of $5,150 and will also be Non Penalty. This series is open to all greyhounds so long as they meet the race and wins criteria.

The winner of the Final will take their spot in the Launching Pad Heats two weeks later, however, if the winner for whatever reason cannot take their spot then the next qualified greyhound will be given that spot.

GRSA has restricted the series to 1-4 wins and 28 starts incase a greyhound wins both the Heat and Final so this will still keep them eligible. If greyhounds win outside the series this may deem them ineligible for the Sandown series. We have also made our Final two weeks before the Launching Pad Heats at Sandown to give the trainer an opportunity to get across the border and trial for the big race.

• Nominations close with GRSA for the SA Heats at 9am on Monday, 7th March.

GAWLER TRACK WORKS – CHANGES TO RACING ON WEDNESDAY 9TH MARCH

GRSA will undertake some significant track maintenance at Gawler in the week commencing Monday 7th March.

The surface will undergo a full track grade to re-establish cambers with the addition of new sand, which will then be followed by a deep harrow.  The infield immediately inside the rail will also be graded to remove the build-up of sand under the rail.

As a consequence of this work, the trial session on Monday 7th March has been cancelled and the race meeting on Wednesday 9th March has been transferred to Angle Park.

Delete: Gawler– Wednesday, 9th March 2022  (TAB) Day
Add: Angle Park – Wednesday, 9th March 2022  (TAB) Day

*Nominations close tomorrow at 9am with GRSA.

The team is hopeful that the track surface is returned to normal for a trial session on Friday 11th March, however times for this session could be slightly slower than normal. GRSA apologies for any inconvenience caused by these works.
