Angle Park Preview - 28th December 2023

Racing News

With the Shadow at large this week, our form assessor from sa.thedogs.com.au has cast their eye across tonight’s Angle Park meeting and given their thoughts below -

Race 1 - Decent field here and a couple of these quite well in! Backing in SPRINGVALE DAVE (3) to return to form tonight. Was beaten in his heat but did jump left from a wide draw a lose a couple lengths. BOOTS (4) is flying and has a brilliant draw. He's a huge hope. REALITY INFRARED (2) has the class to knock these off, just needs to miss Dave early.

Race 2 - This race has more unknowns than the first fleet faced many years ago! Despite this, I'm confident there's only two winnings hopes. SPINGVALE BREE (4) comes from the quality Harris kennel any absolutely would have done her schooling here. ZIPPING JACINTA (8) has some ability and will run well. DESTINI OPERATOR (2) to plug into third.

Race 3 - Where there's smoke there is fire and I'm tipping this ones still burning, expecting SPRINGVALE RITA (2) to make amends for last week. Walked out the boxes and got caught wide midrace, she will land much closer here. Liked the run of UNLEASH INNOCENT (1) on debut and he's definitely a hope here. ONE TWO ME (6) for third.

Race 4 - Good Juvenile field and you would expect the Mackellar trio to have quite the say. Well and truly expecting UNHOLY REIGN (3) to bounce back onto the winners list. She is pure speed and with a safe start, these won't catch her. ETHANOL TANK (4) was very eye catching last week, he's a smokey. BLAZING BUTTERS (6) has plenty of speed.

Race 5 - Intriguing battle this and good to see a full distance field! Taking a stab on ZIPPING ELKIE (1) who was great at Gawler. Trengove can certainly get a dog on the improve and I thought she was much better in her win. MACHISMO (3) will go much closer tonight than last week and should get a great run. ZIPPING HIGHLAND (2) to round them off.

Race 6 - Should be interesting to see what PAUA OF SILENCE (2) does here, returning from a length spell of an airborne Sandown Park run. Clearly has talent and with a safe start he will take catching. BUZZ THE HUSTLER (6) is a good dog, just needs to come out well from the draw. MIRACLE TO EXCEL (7) was good last week.

Race 7 - Small but quality field for this years Kate's A Scandal XMAS Sprint. ADHANA RICO (1) looks best served from the draw and with an ounce of luck working through the field, then he should be a tad too good. FIORANO (4) is hard to catch but a quick start has him in this race. VICTA MARLI (2) is very talented and can lead them.

Race 8 - This is a very nice race and multiple winning hopes. Going to play the box draw card and bank on DASHING DEB (3) jumping straight to the front and proving too speedy. Will need some luck behind though. DISHONEST (6) is in good form and can land very close early. SPRINGVALE BRAY (2) is too good to leave out.

Race 9 - Even lot here but I will bank on the class of GAMACHE (5) to get him home. Has speed and strength to offset the draw. OAKVALE SPIRIT (2) was very good last week after having no luck, she can give them something to catch. BLOSSOM MICHELLE (4) is a nice type in the making.

Race 10 - A race with a couple chances for mine. Banking on the #8 getting held up by the #7 early and will take a punt on BRONZE TITAN (5) who was good last run. Can cross those below and take catching. FEROCIOUS IVY (8) is very good and will win if left alone early. SEND IT BLUE (1) to storm home.

Race 11 - Couple chances in this and just going to go with the bitch that should be first on the fence, which is IT'S SMUDGY (2). Will need some luck to hang on but can set up a lead early. SPRINGVALE MADDI (8) is very good and could even get to the front early. WHISKEY SODA (6) can make a path into third late.

Race 12 - Righto, keen to go home a winner and confident we will under the guidance of RAZZLE DARRYL (1), who deserves to win again. It's set up well for him tonight and hopefully he leads or lands behind the #3 early. SHOW ME BUCKS (3) is going well and isn't out of this. LANA ROADS (6) is a smokey is she can dart over early.

KATE’S A SCANDAL CHRISTMAS SPRINT TONIGHT
Tonight at Angle Park we will see the running of the $14,275 Kate’s A Scandal Christmas Sprint Free For All over the 530m. It is race 7 on the program due to start at 8.40pm SA time and only features a small field of 5 runners however the race itself should be a thrilling contest with Group 3 Gawler Cup winner Adhana Rico taking on Group 1 Adelaide Cup finalist Fiorano, Adelaide Cup Consolation winner Agent Nine Nine, Group 2 Flying Amy finalist Victa Marli and strong last start Metro winner Immense.

Tonight’s feature race is named in honor of one of the best sprinters ever to come from South Australia. Kate’s A Scandal was owned by Gayle Brown and trained by Howard Gray and in 1981 she was considered the best sprinter in the country. She won 15 consecutive metropolitan races which at the time broke a 30 year record culminating in the 1981 National Sprint Championship held at Olympic Park in Victoria. Injury plagued throughout her career she retired in late 1981 with the impressive record of 18 wins and 6 placings from just 33 starts and was named SA Greyhound of the Year that year.

STAYING EVENTS TO MOVE TO 5 RUNNERS AS A MINIMUM FROM JANUARY 2024
For a number of years GRSA has supported our staying ranks by running these events with a minimum of 4 runners. GRSA has tried to encourage this pool to grow at the expense of other events on a program, even with such small numbers. However, from meetings drawn in January 2024 any staying event programmed will need to be a minimum of 5 runners to be considered in the program. This will affect the Angle Park 730m, Murray Bridge 680m and Mt Gambier 732m.
GRSA will continue to review processes in relation to the field size and scheduling.
