Angle Park Preview - 26th January 2023
TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow
Here we are for another Thursday night on the punt but I have to congratulate the Rasmussen team on winning the Group 1 last Saturday night in Sydney with Victa Damian, he is a classy youngster and Tony certainly put in the miles over three weeks. Back to tonight, there are several good things on the program and we should be able to snare a couple of Trifectas.
Race 1 - It is certainly a toughie to start the night with so we will have a go at the First Four, Closer To Rain was a last-start winner here and is amongst the chances with luck early. Makani Girl is well-boxed and should finish in the top four along with Towering Star. 4.1.5.7
Race 2 - This is the first of two Maidens and Springvale Bonni can go one better tonight on her 1st run here when 2nd she looks the likely leader and is our top selection. Coco Coaster is drawn to run a cheeky race and is the danger. Add All Spruced Up is 1st up from Victoria and must be kept safe. 4.2.1.7
Race 3 - The 2nd of the Maidens and the Robyn Mackeller chaser Ragin’ Riot has been showing early pace at Gawler only to be run down she gets a chance here and could pinch this. See My Future and Axel Coaster for the minors. 4.5.7.1
Race 4 - Tim Aloisi certainly has Beck’s Monelli in good form, she has won her last four and is the one to beat here again. Dashing Jinx is well drawn and is the danger along with Man Of Substance who has a good draw. 8.2.1.7
Race 5 - Harry is my top pick here, he was never out of trouble here last run but can bounce back from the rails draw. Springvale Rex has an early pace and has been in the money here on 7 occasions over this trip he can figure along with Miss Scallywag who won here last week when leading throughout. 1.8.3.7
Race 6 - Springvale Roxy can bounce back, she has been in fine form winning her previous four here and Gawler she is the one to toss. Yarramundi Paul will be rattling home but lacks an early pace. He’s Our Design loves this draw and will be at good odds. 6.2.1.7
Race 7 - Another wide-open event, Memphis Rock is 1st up and has handy form back in NSW he is sure to be well tried here on his debut. Spring Harbour has an early pace and is more than capable. Dutch Impact is on the improve and has a good draw. 5.6.1.7
Race 8 - Mallee Magic is the one to beat here, he has the pace to cross and lead and he can run time when on the lure. Howling Hoss has been in the money at his last four here and Gawler and is amongst the better chances. Hushing Dusk and Flora Colossus for the first four. 7.2.3.6
Race 9 - Springvale Bray has been running good times at Gawler and from the good draw should be the measuring stick, he is our top selection. Evie Jean has only had the two runs here in SA and won her maiden their 1st up she has an early pace and can run into the minors. 1.2.3.4
Race 10 - The Rasmussen kennel is having a good run with the Victa runners so we will go with Victa Kerle here, she has the pace to lead and can hopefully pinch this. Foreshadow is racing well and is strong he is the danger, add Rhoda Wine from the draw. 2.6.1.4
Race 11 - The last of the night and Spring Flute has been in fine form over the short, she steps up over more ground here and is a chance of leading for a long way. Springvale Dave recent racing has been at Gawler and is strong. Lochinvar Aloisi must be respected 1st up here in SA. 7.4.6.8

RACING AND TRIALLING FREQUENCY
GRSA has adopted a new local rule in regard to frequency of racing and trialling which will take effect on Wednesday 1st February 2023. Grading of meetings on this day and onwards will be under this local rule. The update local rule is below -
69A Racing and trialling frequency
(1) In this rule:
Race has the same meaning given to this term in R9 of the GAR.
Trial means a satisfactory trial, or a qualifying trial as defined in R9 of the GAR.
(2) A greyhound will only be permitted to start in –
(a) No more than a combined total of 2 race and trial starts in any 7-day period; and,
(b) No more than a combined total of 7 race and trial starts in any 28-day period.
(3) This sub-rule commences on a date to be fixed by Stewards’ Notice.
The intent of this rule is to monitor and regulate the frequency of races and official trials of greyhounds, to ensure adequate rest time is given between events. The rule is similar to one in effect in Western Australia. We have automated the Ozchase Racing system to be able to monitor this rule. The rule is self-explanatory. A greyhound must not start more than 2 times (races or trials combined) in any 7-day period. Further, a greyhound must not start more than 7-times (races or trials combined) in any 28-day period.
Any attempt to nominate a greyhound outside these parameters will be flagged by the OzChase system. If a greyhound gains a start from reserve deeming it ineligible under this rule for its next engagement or it competes in another state prior to racing back in SA then the greyhound will come out.
**Racing Administration staff will scratch these greyhounds acting under this rule without notification. (the responsibility rests with the trainer to ensure they do not contravene this rule)
**For clarity if a greyhound races on Sunday, Wednesday then Sunday it will be eligible. The first day counts as day 1 and therefore resets on the Saturday.
LOCAL MATCH RACE SERIES “THE SA EASTAR” IN APRIL
The SA Local Match Race series coined “The SA Eastar” will be held on Thursday night, 6th April (Easter) at Angle Park.
Eligibility for South Australian local greyhounds will be based on Nationals conditions. They will need to be trained in SA 76 days out of the last 150 prior to the close of nominations.

The head-to-head matches will be decided based on the final listing and nominations. Match 1 will be 1 v 4, Match 2 will be 2 v 3, Match 3 will be 5 v 8 and Match 4 will be 6 v 7. There will be no manual selection from the Grader. The top 4 seeded greyhounds will be rewarded with more prizemoney.
