TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

With the Shadow still away for a few more days our friends at SA.THEDOGS.COM.AU have kindly provided their over view of each of our races again tonight.

Race 1 - DARCY DAKOTA (5) to get the night going for the punters. He is an absolute rocket this bloke and looks a certainty to lead and lead for a long way. Will stop late, but should be far enough ahead. BLACK CHIP (1) was terrific last start at Gawler and he should get heaps of room to work with. Threat. SPRING MARRISHIA (2) has strength on her side.

Race 2 - Huge fan of HE'S MAGIC (1) and when he starts to put it all together then he will turn out quite a handy dog. This suits well and if he can just get a clear run then I expect him to be too good. CHERRY LANE (4) was terrific last week when she found the front and stuck on well. REV OLIVE (2) is nicely drawn down low, can threaten late.

Race 3 - Couple of quick ones early in this. BLUE PETE (5) has plenty of speed and is perfectly drawn in the middle of the track where he likes to race. Showed strength last start and might be too good late. TERRIFIC IZZY (2) looks a great chance of leading and setting up a margin, just needs to hang on. BOURNE MODEL (1) is well drawn.

Race 4 - EXULTANT MCLAREN (1) isn't ideally drawn, but he was terrific last start and if he can repeat that effort then he can certainly take this out. Just needs to get some clear running midrace. DAKOTA MILA (4) has pace on her side and she can offset the middle draw early. DARK THRILL (2) is well drawn down low, has speed and strength.

Race 5 - No overwhelming confidence with this one, but TERRIFIC LUCY (4) goes on top. She normally shows terrific early speed and if she jumps like she can, then should lead and be hard to catch. NO FINES (6) can tag her over early and then prove a threat late. CANYA STRIKER (1) was good first up and will be strong late here.

Race 6 - SCARY EYES (4) is the class factor here and he has enough speed to cross over to a very ominous spot, or potentially lead. He's strong and would be super hard to beat if he settles close. BEWITCH (3) is nicely drawn down low, she could cross the inside pair and run a good race. AUNTY MEEKA (7) has ability, just needs some luck.

Race 7 - MUSTER (3) is clearly the most talented out of this lot and if he drew wide then I would be more confident, but he should still handle the inside fine. Does like room to his outside. Wins with the right run. WARRINGAH BALE (5) was great over the 530m trip last start, definite threat. JUST ALFIE (8) will be needing some luck.

Race 8 - Good bitches only final this! DAKOTA AVA (7) is perfectly drawn off the track and she has a brilliant blend of speed and strength. Just needs to get out of the boxes well. HOT LIPS (4) is airborne at the moment and will quickly muster into an ominous spot. FANTASTIC ADA (1) looks a decent chance of leading them up early.

Race 9 - Absolute ripper of a race this. MALLEE BEAUTY (2) has a big future and showed she can handle two turn racing. Inside draw should give her the chance to boot through to the lead. YODA LADY (4) was super unlucky last start and she can land close to the front. Is strong too. ZEBERIAH (5) is another with a big future, he's super strong.

Race 10 - Even masters field here and will go with THAT'LL DO NEO (2). He has the good draw and enough speed to jump to the front and glide along the rails. Would be tough to beat. YARRAMUNDI PAUL (7) is super strong and good enough to handle the draw. Just needs to avoid early trouble. BALONNE BOY (4) can charge over early if he gets right out of the boxes.

Race 11 – Only a small field of four so we will go with BOOM BOOM JINX (8) who is very good and has plenty of strength. Just needs to find the rail. ROCKET BALE (6) is in great form, needs to cross over.

Race 12 - BEN TANGO (5) on top to send us home. Likes to race in the middle of the track and he has great pace and strength. Can follow the speed below and whip around them midrace. FANTASTIC HELGA (1) is super strong, will rattle home late, just needs some luck during the run. TERRIFIC BAZ (4) is quick early and he could shoot over to the lead.

Leigh is the husband of Rachel and father of three young girls (not so young anymore) and it will be great to see them, extended family and former work collegues on course in recognition of Leigh next week.

The Gawler GRC and GRSA named the Stayers Cup in honour of Bothing a few years ago to recognise one of our great stayers over the last 20 years. Bothing was nicely bred being by Carlisle Jack out of Which Wire, owned by Andrew Lee, Brett Smith and Alexander Calabria and trained by Bosco Stamenkovic. In the year of 2006 there was no better stayer in the country after he won the National Distance Championship at Launceston in Tasmania over the 720m where he established a new track record of 42.49 and won by almost 5 lengths. He also currently holds the Gawler 643m track record which he set 15 years ago running an amazing 36.81 and won by almost 18 lengths, with few greyhounds getting close to this mark over the last decade and a half. He won the State Final of the National Distance, he was named SA Staying Greyhound of the Year and showed he could sprint as well, winning a Heat of the SA St Leger before finishing third in the Final. His best time over the 515m at Angle Park was 29.30 while he ran 43.06 over the 731m, he also won at Wentworth Park in 42.72 over the 720m. His career ended with 17 wins and 7 placings from only 30 lifetime starts with earnings around $82,000 in prizemoney.
