TELLING THE TAIL
By The Shadow

Tonight’s racing here at headquarters we have a strong 11 event program with several races looking wide open affairs, as always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - With only the four runners Super Cobra looks very hard to beat down in box 1, he has been placed at his last three here and Mount Gambier and is our top pick here. The danger is Vanilla Slick who found a heap of trouble here last run and should improve with the small field. 1.4.8.2 for $1

Race 2 - This is the 2nd of the Maiden events and Midnight Tracker has been placed at both his SA starts, he ran on strongly here last week from a middle draw and is close to a win. Kinrock Star started a short price favorite here Monday night when a nose 2nd he is amongst the main chances again. Finnis Burn along with Under Siege for the First Four. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 3 - Primed made short work of them here last week winning by over 7L from a rails draw, he has a good turn of early pace and will be hard to toss. Hoogley won at Gawler last run from box 3 in handy time he is well drawn here and is one for the trifecta punter. Outback Rebel can add a bit of value to the race. Box Up 1.2.5.8

Race 4 - This is a terrific event but its very hard to go past Stout Monelli who has been in outstanding form of late, he smashed the track record over the 595M two runs back and has won his last four, he looks far too good again. The Rasmussen pair Victa Haydn and Victa Grosso are both very strong but have been missing the kick of late they look chances for the First Four. Box up 1.4.7.8

Race 5 - This is a wide open affair I have gone with the pacey Bragger Deen who has a good turn of early pace, he was run down here late last week when 2nd and is very close to another win. Paul Keeping bounced back with a handy run to score and has the nice draw. Box Up 1.2.3.6

Race 6 - Fantastic Victor continued on his winning way here last run over the 530M in quick time, he steps up to the 595M here and is our top selection. Meet Joe Black races well over this trip and has early pace. Locked is a strong type along with Scorching Sun. Box Up 4.5.7.8

Race 7 - This certainly is a good betting race as it has a heap of chances, I have gone with the inside four but you can make cases for several runners out wide. Kingsville Flyer can bounce back from his effort here last week when he found a heap of trouble he is well drawn and gets the nod. South Song along with Fabulous Ebony both are racing well and are chances. War Drum Express is on his SA debut and is capable of surprising. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 8 - Alfieri has been in outstanding form of late, he is very smart when on the lure and will be hard to beat again. Hot Spartan is a strong type he should get a good sit here into the back and will be running on. Departure Gate has wins here and at Mount Gambier in his last three and is amongst the chances. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 9 - With only the four runners here over the journey Frankie Boy looks far too smart, he will find the drop in grade to his liking and wasn’t disgraced at his past two runs in Victoria. Bedrock Fred proved too strong over the 595M here last week and has won over this trip in the past. 3.5.1.7 for $1

Race 10 - Zipping Rafferty was a last start winner here from box 7, he has the gun draw here tonight and should only be improved by another run on the track we will put him on top. Hugs And Kisses is on her SA debut here tonight, she has handy Victorian city form and looks to be a strong type and is right in this. Add Miers who is resuming from a spell and is sure to be well tried. Box up 1.4.5.8

Race 11 - The Trengove kennel could have a handy night and hopefully they can send us home on a winning note with Queen Of Fire, she has won her last five and has the pace to lead. Zinfandel Oompa along with Aston Regret are major players. Box Up 1.2.4.7

SIR TRUCULENT CHASING ANOTHER GROUP 1 AT THE MEADOWS ON SATURDAY

Champion SA stayer Sir Truculent has made it through to another Group 1 Final for trainer Wally Harkins after finishing 2nd in his heat of the Group 1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers at the Meadows on Saturday night.

Starting at $34 the veteran star jumped well from box 1, then avoided some early trouble to sit just off the leader and eventual winner Orca before finishing 2nd in a time of 42.76 for the 725m trip. 'The Truck' has drawn box 7 in the final and no doubt his large contingent of fans will be watching to see if the champ can bring home another Group 1 to add to his already packed resume. Another SA connection in the final is the Tim Aloisi owned Beck's Monelli, trained by Robert Camilleri, also making the final and drawn alongside Sir Truculent in box 8.

Good luck to all connections in the final on Saturday night.

MURRAY BRIDGE LURE SYSTEM MAINTENANCE – CHANGE OF TRIAL DAYS

Please note that next week GRSA will be undertaking essential maintenance work on the Murray Bridge 1-turn track lure system.

This work will occur on Wednesday 2nd March and will require the cancellation of the trial session scheduled for that evening.

The Club will now hold 1-turn track trials in the morning on Thursday 3rd March, prior to the regular straight track trial session.

1-Turn trials will commence at 8.00am, with straight track trials to follow immediately after (note that any satisfactory trials will need to occur after 9.00am).

GRSA apologises for any inconvenience caused by these works.

GAWLER TRACK WORKS – CHANGES TO RACING ON WEDNESDAY 9TH MARCH

GRSA will undertake some significant track maintenance at Gawler in the week commencing Monday 7th March.

The surface will undergo a full track grade to re-establish cambers with the addition of new sand, which will then be followed by a deep harrow.  The infield immediately inside the rail will also be graded to remove the build-up of sand under the rail.

As a consequence of this work, the trial session on Monday 7th March has been cancelled and the race meeting on Wednesday 9th March has been transferred to Angle Park.

Add: Angle Park – Wednesday, 9th March 2022  (TAB) Day

The team is hopeful that the track surface is returned to normal for a trial session on Friday 11th March, however times for this session could be slightly slower than normal. GRSA apologies for any inconvenience caused by these works.

LAUNCHING PAD SA SERIES BEGINS ON 10th MARCH

Again this year the Sandown GRC offered sweepstake tickets into the rich Launching Pad Series.

There are special conditions on the race, being for greyhounds that have won between 1 and 6 races and have not had more than 30 starts at close of their nominations.

The Heats will be run at Sandown over the 515m on Thursday, 31st March with the Semi-Finals on Thursday, 7th April with the $150,000 to the winner Final run on Thursday, 14th April. GRSA was able to secure a ticket and will give one greyhound the opportunity to compete in this lucrative series. We will run a Heat and Final series to determine who will make the Launching Pad Heats on 31st March.

Our Heats will be run on Thursday, 10th March over the 530m at Angle Park for greyhounds that have won 1-4 races and no more than 28 starts at time of nominations. The Heats will be worth $3,585 and will be Non Penalty events. The Final will be run at Angle Park on Thursday, 17th March over the 530m with prizemoney of $5,150 and will also be Non Penalty.

The winner of the Final will take their spot in the Launching Pad Heats two weeks later, however, if the winner for whatever reason cannot take their spot then the next qualified greyhound will be given that spot.

GRSA has restricted the series to 1-4 wins and 28 starts incase a greyhound wins both the Heat and Final so this will still keep them eligible. If greyhounds win outside the series this may deem them ineligible for the Sandown series. We have also made our Final two weeks before the Launching Pad Heats at Sandown to give the trainer an opportunity to get across the border and trial for the big race.

• Nominations close with GRSA for the SA Heats at 9am on Monday, 7th March.
