TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

Tonight here at headquarters we have the final of the 2022 Champion Puppy worth $10,000 to the winner (race 8 on the card ), we also have three 595m races and we open the night with a 730m event. As always all races are Trifecta and First Four events.

Race 1 - We start the night with a distance affair and Bedrock Fred has returned from his very successful interstate campaign and is the one to beat here, he has the pace to lead and is the one to beat. The danger is Beck’s Monelli who was a last start winner here. 5.3.1.7 for $1

Race 2 - This is the 1st of the 595m events and Fantastic Dixie is our pick here, she has the early pace to cross from the wide draw and will take beating. Dashing Wilma can kick up on the fence and hasn’t been that far away in recent runs, she will be right in the mix again. Add Hushing Dusk for the Trifecta. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 3 - Spring Agatha has the form on the board, she has wins here and at Murray Bridge, the early pace will help from the poor draw. Spring Lilac has a very good record here, she is another who can show dash and looks the danger. Victa Emma is drawn to run a cheeky race. Box Up 2.4.5.7

Race 4 - Sunset Toxic was an outstanding run here last week winning in 30.25 from box 3, he is the one to beat on that gallop. Fly For Trix along with Aces Are Trumps are chances as they are well drawn. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 5 - Victa Grosso has been very good to us in recent weeks, winning 3 of his last 5, he can jump to the front and will take beating. Run Like Jess has been racing well, he is drawn to run into the money again and has won 4 from 6 this trip. Box Up 1.2.3.4

Race 6 - This looks a good Trifecta affair as this is wide open, Lektra Teddy has been racing well and has early pace, he gets his chance in this. Zinfandel Bart is better than form suggests and must be respected. Bold Onyx will be running on. Box Up 2.3.6.7

Race 7 - Colin Swain does a very good job with his small team and Orson Katie is drawn well here to run a bold race down in box 1, she has the pace to be on the pace early and will go close. Sutton Prince has early pace and has been in good form he is the danger. Terrific Janine can run into the minors. Box Up 1.6.7.8

Race 8 - This is the final of the Champion Puppy and the draw here will help Angus Keeping who ran on well to score here in the heats from a wide draw, he has ability and will take beating. The danger is Rushes Raw who won from this draw last week in 30.48, he is racing well and is a local performer who doesn’t have to travel. Melissa Keeping and Queen Of Scotch look the First Four. Box Up 1.3.4.8

Race 9 - The main two here are the well-drawn Sister Roberta box 1 and Jax Bale, both are racing well and will be hard to beat with a clear run. Teddy The Bear won’t be disgraced as he will be running on in the small field. Box Up 1.4.5.7

Race 10 - Springvale Roxy is drawn to bounce back from her good draw of 1, she has the pace to kick up early and is very strong. Charlie Brother will be running on strongly and is a must for the Trifecta. Canya Razor along with Straight Blaze are chances for the minors. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 11 - John Dutton was a very good effort when running 2nd in good time here last Thursday from this draw, he will take beating on that run. Bruce Mick Glenn is the danger as he has early pace. Closer To Rain gets home hard. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 12 - The Ray Murray trained Harry has terrific form at Gawler and has a good strike rate here, he can send us home on a winning note. Sky And Thunder and Winner’s Win have ability but are tardy early. Box Up 2.5.7.8

2022 NORTH V SOUTH CHALLENGE IN AUGUST THIS YEAR

After some consultation with the Murray Bridge and Gawler Clubs, GRSA has formulated a race series that will see the North V South Challenge being conducted on an annual basis creating plenty of friendly banter amongst industry depending on where you live.  Below are details of how the North V South Challenge will work for a 530m Final worth $8,000 and a 395m Final worth $4,000, to be run at Murray Bridge in August and then on rotation with Gawler over the 531m/400m every other year in July.  The inaugural running will have one Heat for Gawler greyhounds and one Heat for Murray Bridge greyhounds at Murray Bridge on Sunday, 14th August, with the 530m Heats worth $2,125 each and the 395m Heats worth $1,855 for round 1. Round 2 will be at Gawler with the same greyhounds competing in one Heat for the Gawler greyhounds and one Heat for Murray Bridge greyhounds on Sunday, 21st August, with the 531m Heats worth $2,125 and the 400m Heats worth $1,855.  Each Heat will consist of a maximum of 8 dogs plus reserves with the Finals run at Murray Bridge on Sunday, 28th August as an 8 dog Final plus reserves. Greyhounds will receive points through both rounds 1 and 2 to establish the 4 from each Club who will progress through to the Final. Special conditions regarding eligibility for greyhounds and trainers are included in Kennel Capers for what will hopefully be an exciting series engaging both venues and participant groups.

GRADING REVIEW OUTCOMES

305M MASTERS AT MOUNT GAMBIER
Time band for Mount Gambier 305m Masters-
Previously GRSA had been using a policy for Masters events at Mount Gambier utilising the 277m distance, however, we had not adjusted this for the 305m until there was sufficient racing. At the most recent Grading Review Panel meeting it was decided to make the below changes and implement.  The below policy will now be implemented for meetings conducted from 1st July 2022-

305m Masters Policy for Mount Gambier – With Mount Gambier GRC conducting one 305m Grade 5 Masters race each meeting where possible, the Grading Department determined conditions for these races using some of the conditions of normal Grade 5 Masters events, however, factoring in the restricted nature of the 305m distance. If a dog wins and runs faster than 17.75, it can still remain eligible for the next week, if the dog then wins and runs faster than 17.75 again it will be ineligible for the race and distance the following week. The dog will either run over another distance or will miss that week’s race. The following week it will then be eligible. If there is no 305m Masters race the greyhound has to miss the next time that race is conducted. This only refers to the greyhounds that win.

TIME BANDS FOR MASTERS AT ANGLE PARK
Since Angle Park has been redeveloped with the new distances of 342m, 530, 595m and 730m GRSA has not allocated any times for Masters events. There subsequently has been sufficient racing at the venue for a time standard to be applied, which was approved at the most recent Grading Review Panel meeting.
The below time ratings for Masters events will now be implemented for meetings conducted from 1st July, 2022.
Time Bands are –
342m –19.75
530m –30.80
595m – Unlikely
730m – Unlikely
