TELLING THE TAIL by The Shadow

We have another interesting night of racing here at headquarters and the feature of the evening is the running of the 2022 Kings And Queens over the 530m (race 8) on the program, it certainly is a handy Final with over $5,000 going to the winner. As always all races are First Four and Trifecta events.

Race 1
- It certainly is a very good opening event, I have gone with Sunset Toxic who might be able to hold the early lead from box 1, he has been racing well and has good box manners. The BIG danger is Rushes Raw who was a BON winner here last week in 30.25 he is very smart when on the lure. Box Up 1.2.4.5

Race 2 - This is the 1st of the Maidens and Fantastic Eddy will get every chance from the good draw, he is a strong type who should get a clear run here. She’s Blushing is another who is close to breaking through she has been placed in 8 of 14 and is the danger. Box up 2.4.5.7

Race 3 - The 2nd of the Maidens and My Mate Snow is my selection here, he is resuming from a break and should sprint well 1st up. Victa Speed has an early pace and could pinch this, add the 1st starter Springvale Dave for the TRI. Box Up 1.4.5.8

Race 4 - My roughie of the night is Sophia Palms here, she continues to show good box manners at Gawler and has been in the money at her last 5, she might be able to cross and pinch this. Springvale Bray was a Maiden winner here last start on debut and is strong. Finniss Surprise has a handy short course form and is a chance up in distance. Box Up 1.2.4.8

Race 5 - We are over the 595m here and we will go with the well-drawn Hushing Dusk down in box 1, she goes well from this draw and is amongst the better chances in an open affair. Cyclone Jane steps up in distance and has been in form. Weblec Wave will be running home over the top of them. Box Up 1.2.5.7

Race 6 - Deadly Class is over from Melbourne and is a very handy performer, he has 5 wins from 9 starts and was the last start winner at Sandown in quick time, he is the one to beat. March Legend along with Lucius Malfoy for the minors. 7 from 2.3.4 boxed.

Race 7 - The Azzopardi kennel should have a race-to-race double here with Salad Dodger, he has won 3 of his last 5 in Victoria and has a very good strike rate of 8 wins from 20 starts. Westar Aileen is racing well and will be in the mix again from her inside draw. 6 from 1.2.5 boxed.

Race 8 - This is the Final of the King and Queens and Sister Roberta looks at a chance of leading again, she has been in good form and is well drawn. Captain Larry is drawn for another bold showing he won here two runs back and is amongst the dangers. On The Tequila is a must for the Trifecta punters as she gets home hard. Box Up 1.3.4.7

Race 9 - All Show is amongst the chances here and is our each-way special of the night, he can show early pace and is a chance of pinching this. Maximum Refusal along with Aragog is the improvers. Box up 1.2.4.5

Race 10 - This is over the 730m and it's hard to tip against Victa Haydn, he has been in good form winning here and running some smart times he should win again but will be at skinny odds again. Litter mate Victa Reid will set the early pace and looks the Quinella. Mr Ibrox will be getting home hard and looking at the Trifecta. 1 from 4.6

Race 11 - Hector Fawley is another from across the border, he has won his past two at Sandown over the 515m in very good fashion and will take a power of beating again here at his 1st look. San Lorenzo is an EX NSW  performer, he was the last start winner at Wentworth Park and is one for the minors along with Victa Alby. Box Up 2.4.5.8

Race 12 - Yankee Costanza can send us home on a winning note, he can kick up from the good draw and hopefully hold the early lead and hang on. Kelly’s Missile has a very good short course form and could surprise you. He’s Our Design will be running on strongly. Box Up 1.2.4.5

VALE - MONTY WILSON
GRSA was saddened by the news that trainer Monty Wilson had passed away after a short battle with illness. The 76-year-old from Mumbannar, Victoria was more recognized as a Mt Gambier participant due to his close proximity to the border and how much he supported the club and those race meetings. The Mt Gambier Club will have their handlers wear black armbands today and on Sunday in recognition of Monty.

TAB MATCH RACE CHALLENGE – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS IN SEPTEMBER
South Australia will again conduct the annual Match Race Challenge in September, to be held on Thursday, 22nd September during the rich Adelaide Cup Carnival. Previously conducted as a State of Origin Series between SA and Victorian greyhounds, this was changed last year to an Allstars edition due to Covid and the linking of feature races with Victoria being unavailable.
After liaising with GRV and due to a change in the feature race programming and conditions, the linking of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup with Victorian events is not available this year. Also, the Million Dollar Chase which was programmed on top of the Group 1 Adelaide Cup has been changed to an earlier timeslot giving SA’s prestigious event much-needed clear air on the racing calendar.
To ensure that Angle Park TAB Match Race Challenge attracts the best greyhounds possible, GRSA has kept the conditions of the series the same as last year to be “SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS”. It will be four (4) SA greyhounds taking on the four (4) best-nominated greyhounds from anywhere in Australia.
GRSA will still guarantee the winner of the TAB Match Race Challenge direct entry into the $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Adelaide Cup Final on Friday, 7th October (bypassing the Adelaide Cup Heats).
Nominations close at 9 am on Monday, 19th September with GRSA.
Conditions of the TAB Match Race Challenge – SA TAKES ON THE ALL-STARS:
Eligibility as to who represents South Australia or All-Stars will be based on the National Championships domiciliary clause. Greyhounds need to be trained in the state they wish to represent for 76 days out of the last 150 days prior to the date that nominations close (19th September).
The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from SA will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “SA’s Best”. The best four (4) greyhounds nominated from Interstate will be selected by the GRSA Grader to represent “the All-Stars”.
The Grader will use whatever information he has available to select those greyhounds including liaising with other State bodies as required. The SA Grader’s decision will be final.
Those greyhounds not selected from Interstate will be given the opportunity to solo trial or race in another event on the night. Reserves will be declared, with one (1) from SA and one (1) from Interstate (dependant on nominations), which will replace the SA or All-Stars representative as required. For example, the SA reserve will only replace an SA scratching.
The Grader will rate the four (4) greyhounds from SA and the four (4) from Interstate in order from 1 to 4, with No.1 being the highest rated greyhound from each group. The head-to-head matches will be decided by the two No.1 rated greyhounds competing against each other and then it will be 2 v 2, 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.
Prizemoney for each individual match will also reflect the seeding of greyhounds from 1 to 4, with the No.1 rated greyhound’s racing for the most prizemoney in the head-to-head races. However, the overall winner of the race will still be determined by actual race times run by each greyhound (to three decimal places).
PRIZEMONEY:
Prizemoney for each pairing: • 1 v 1 – Winner $4,750, Runner Up $500 • 2 v 2 – Winner $4,500, Runner Up $500 • 3 v 3 – Winner $4,250, Runner Up $500 • 4 v 4 – Winner $4,000, Runner Up $500
Prizemoney for the overall placings for TAB Match Race Challenge (based on overall times):
• 1st – $7,500 • 2nd – $2,500 • 3rd – $1,000

MOUNT GAMBIER CHANGES IN PROGRAMMING FROM SEPTEMBER
Please be advised the Mt Gambier GRC in consultation with GRSA advise that there are some slight changes to their programming from September. On Sunday meetings (Prov 1) the club has been advertising three 305m events, on occasions, these races have taken precedence over other distances. For clarity, the 305m events will be considered after the other distances on the program. The grader will always have the final say based on nominations but the Club's objective is still to accommodate the longer distances where possible. If 305m events are selected for the program then the Maiden will have preference over the Juvenile which will have preference over the Master's event. On Thursday meetings (Time Graded Prov 2) the club advise that there will be a restriction on Time Rating for the 5 or more wins category over 400m ONLY where greyhounds no faster than 5.50 will be considered. (Any number below 5.50 will not be eligible for that category and distance). The Club will also run one Maiden over the 305m, depending on nominations, under Time Rating conditions at these meetings depending on nominations.
Please refer to the September All Tracks calendar for further information.

GRADING REVIEW OUTCOMES
TIME RATINGS FOR FIRST STARTERS TO CHANGE TO 8 FOR MEETINGS THURSDAY, 25TH AUGUST AND ONWARDS

As previously advised by the Grading Review Panel, it was agreed to change the Time Rating for first starters from 10 to 8. The programming changes have been made in OzChase and have been implemented with the first meeting graded using the Time Ratings being Mount Gambier on Thursday, 25th August. This will mean that the base for first starters will now be 8 on the Time Rating band. This is also the base for those greyhounds that have not yet had three-lifetime starts. The below table advises the changes -
STARTS TIME RATING CALCULATION
6 or more starts Average of 4 fastest runs of last 6 starts
5 starts Average of 4 fastest runs of all 5 starts
4 starts Average of 3 fastest runs of all 4 starts
3 starts Average of 2 fastest runs of all 3 starts
2 starts Average of 2 fastest runs (including Base Time Rating 8.00)
1 start Average of only start and Base Time Rating (8.00)
Debutant Base Time Rating of 8.00
The Grading Department will monitor the impact of the change on our race fields and how greyhounds are graded into these events. GRSA will accept the Time Ratings as being correct when formatting upcoming fields.
